    dash board

im getting really annoyed with my wiring in me car. im now thinking of taking the dash out to get this sorted.

ive looked on the articles section for an article on how to do so.
im sure i remember seeing one on the old site? maybe not though.

any advice or know how would be much appreciated cheers

    Re: dash board

to sort out the wiring behind it really.
well when i press my brake pedal my rear fog light on my dash comes on slightly. my handbrake light and clock all dim also when the pedal is pressed.

and now my oil pressure gauge is playing up.

cleaned all engine earths and replaced with new.

    cheers

also i have cleaned up on of the rear lights earth. is there one on the other side?

    Re: dash board

lol it is a bit mad i no. but my wiring has always looked a mess behind it since ive had it.

what about if i was to try the car without the rear lights connected?

also on the passenger side of the car when i took the upper trim off i had a green wire running along to the back is this going to be an earth?

also i have got rid of my middle air vents and replaced them with dials.
is it possible to put the vents back does any1 know.

as when the dash is out i might put them else where.
    cheers

    Re: dash board

ya light issues were most prob the rear lights, and the dodgy oil pressure gauge is probably the connectors on the sender... i have multiple lights, and senders here if you need any bits

when every1s been saying the rear lights do u mean the units them selfs?

ive got it out. need to do the steering wheel bushes any how or replace the rack. so that will make that easier with it out. might do the heater matrix aswell.

and im going to take all the sound deadning out.

will let you no markey cheers.

    Re: dash board

where the plug goes on the bulb holder bit, its prob all green and scabby on the connectors, or on the bulb side, from what you say when you press brake the brake light bulbs are earthing through another circuit, if that makes sense....

    quick test....

flick on taillights and hazards, and stand behind car, see if the taillights go dimmer when the indicators illuminate, then get an assistant to press brake etc. etc.

another thing is clean the earths on the rear lights, or run an extra wire onto the black with a green stripe on the rear lights which is ya earth wire.

    Re: dash board

thought id put a pic up of the car with the dash out. stripping all the sound deadning etc out to.

also ive got another pic im putting up just woundered what it actually is of. think its something to do with alarm/immobilisor if any1 could shed any light cheers.

as one of the wires coming out of it leads coming out of it leads to nowhere and is not connected to anything and i had another one like this connected in there too.
and i cant see where the one whats connected up goes to cheers

    Re: dash board

LOL, looking at that! a couple of lights on the dash would be the last thing on my mind......

I had this problem with an Astra once, all it was, was the wrong frigging bulb!

For instance Halfords sell the 380 bulb and 382 look identical but there not, I saw it loads at Halfords a few years ago, peoples brake lights come on when they idicate, turn on there headlights and rear lights turn off, all sorts of crap, dont know why it did/does it, but mine was giving them sort of problems and just turned out to be one bulb

Worth trying that for a few pence.......

    Re: dash board

havent touched it lol. bit skint at the mo. waiting for a m8 to buz a welder round just got a few bits to tidy up on the floor.

is loom tape any different to black insulating tape then?

yeah would be pretty cool to leave it out. not very practical though lol.
and the dash it self didnt really weigh alot considering the size of it. the sound deading i pulled out felt alot heavier.

yeah i no it seems a bit extreme taking the dash out. but ive always wanted to do it anyway really.

plus half the interior might not end up going back in for a bit lol

Just doing a search on taking the dash out, as I wanted to tidy it up a bit, thankfully I came across this thread. Fook that, its not worth it.

yep if you get the 'non adhesive' variety its a joy to
    use.
