    Finally in a 5!

Weekend just gone I took a trip up to see Tim (caymanr26) and see his Raider that he recently advertised.

I remember seeing it at FCS but as I bought a Clio Trophy in June I didn't give it a good going over as I'd kind if dismissed getting a 5 til maybe next year.

When he advertised it it immediately caught my eye and the cogs started turning. A few PM's back and forth, loads if texts and a phone call later my train ticket was booked and I was on my way.

Tim very kindly met me at the station and we got back to his and the Raider was sat on the drive gleaming!

A check over of the body and underneath etc and I was ready for a test drive. Out we went and even on standard boost it pulled really strong. Everything felt tight and sharp so we went back and struck up a deal. Shortly after the money was transferred and I was on my way home.

Drove the 165 miles home on half a tank of fuel (taking it easy) and it didn't miss a beat! Drove faultlessly and the grin on my face all the way home must have been a picture!

Sure, there are some jobs to do however the time and money that has been put into this car is immense! It really is a credit to its previous owners and especially
Tim who put a lot if things right with the car after he acquired it.

Tim is a very decent chap who described the car very accurately and made me aware of what it needed to finish it off. I'm sure I'll put my own twist on it and change a few little things but it is about 95% there.

    So far my to do list is;

    Sell my Trophy

Get carb set up to run around 16psi (adjustable in car)
    OE bonnet
    OE Grill
Couple of small touch ups on the body.
    Wideband Kit
Better Tyres in correct 195/45 size (currently 195/50)

And after that it really is just little bits and pieces.

I'd like to thank Tim as he was a pleasure to deal with and he was genuinely gutted to sell his 5 but rest assured its gone to a loving home!

And now a couple of pics

Thanks for looking and let me bore you with my story!

It's a bit max power for me personally but also I don't think it looks too bad really!. I know Tim bought it like that and I think he had the same plan.

I'll do the grill first and see how it looks

Cheers CB I'll bare the bonnet in mind. The wheel bolts are like a sort if anodised finished and reflect slightly different colours, maybe the tweak to the photo makes them a bit more green

Thanks Dale, thought it was better to order through the club shop and support that and save any fees on eBay too.

If you have no luck with the raider screen decal I'll speak to our internal sign department that is part of our company. They do a lot of things like vehicle wrapping etc so maybe worth trying if you have no luck

I'd supply the club mate, as the club shop is the source for most of the clubs income. Ill speak to Dale later and get some prices knocked up. Shouldn't take more than a week to produce.

    Car looks fantastic.

Just a tip though. Not point in adding in car boost. A carb can only fuel for one given pressure. You will just rich it out if you wind down the boost.

Use the inbuilt turbo pressure regulator. Its called the throttle

Yeah don't bother with adjustable mate, Andy is spot on with what he's saying. Run it about 12 psi and it'll be loadsa fun!

Fair play guys, it has an in car adjuster so was just gonna go with that

Thought it would be nice to knock it down to 10 for cruising and I think the KTR180
    Is good for 16-17 psi?

yeah, and you've got a slightly better intercooler in there too.
as long as the carb's tweaked you'll be good for 16psi all day long.

Not sure. Message yo' area rep.

If you're getting a wideband anyway then this is a good chance to tinker with the carb yourself.

Otherwise, you've got k-tec near Ringwood.. Not sure how much they do on the 5GTT these days.

    Re: Finally in a 5!

Looks mint in those pics - gutted to say the least! nevermind (ive said that alot this week!!)

Those wheel bolts are polorised so 30% stonger than normal steel - like forging I guess, they actually look like a heat treated or titanium finish - i Love them personally, even looking green - very common on Meganesport.net now!

Picking up a standard 182 this weekend so all is not lost - though having a standard car is going to be a little weird!

Anyway glad the 5 went to a good home and will be loved - hope you enjoy mate

    Re: Finally in a 5!

Nice couple of little jobs done tonight.

Sorted out the sticky central locking motors so now they have full extension and nice and quick and smooth.

Also sorted the power supply out to the clock as that didn't work.

Only little jobs but ticked off the list now

Hopefully my oe gauge faces will be here soon and ordered a nice Alpine cd/mp3/iPod unit with Amber display so might be fitting that lot at the weekend

Cat 1 alarm going on Saturday so things are starting to happen!

Next on the list is a wideband and some tuning.

Anyone in the Devon / Cornwall area people can recommend ???

Funny you saying that as I recommended you after recently doing 2 or 3 in the last few weeks but that you wouldn't be around for a while.

Blandy if you haven't got the time to pop up to see robw perhaps just hold out until you have your AFR set up and get turning those screws and watching that gauge until its

    Re: Finally in a 5!

Not a massive update today but had a set of Toyo T1R's fitted in the correct 195/45 15 size.

Noticeably better ride quality and handling over the previous tyres.

Deemed it cheapest/easiest to stick with current wheels and change tyres rather than source a set of OE 13's then have to buy something like 888's anyway.

    Next up, wideband
