Pikey Tracker!

So I've been toying with the idea of fitting a tracker but refuse to subscribe or pay a fortune.
Been thinking , I've got an old iPhone 3G and am thinking the following.
Installing find my phone app on the 3G and my current 4s.
Wiring up another cigerette lighter female to an ignition live and hiding it in the centre console.the good thing about an iPhone is even if fully charged in an off state when you plug them in then auto turn on.
Even if the battery is dead it only takes 5 mins to power up and will still auto switch on
The 3G will be left in the car on charge , hidden in an off state.
On my 4s or pc I'd activate the 3G as lost so the next time it comes online I'd get an email saying its found. Basically if I get that email it means someone has started the car , the cigerette lighter has powered up turning the phone on. Then I can track the phone, collect my cross bow and retrieve said car.
So what ya think?

I actually think that's a great idea. Does the phone need a sim or anything or is it one of those clever Apple ideas where it'll just work?

Would you get an email every time you turn the ignition? That could become annoying

the phone still needs to be either on wifi or with a sim card in for connecting to the internet. chuck in a gifgaf simcard and your away.

Just a pay as u go I'd recon .
You can turn off lost mode when ever u like, I'm just gonna enable it when it's parked long term in the lock up.
You can track the phone when ever u like as long as its on but remember if u switch it off then drive it you gonna have to turn it off again or just leave it on and let the battery run down.
It will charge up again in the event of a theft and come on within defo 10 mins and stay on for as long as its had to charge

It's a known one, some smart criminals go through a car removing smart devices etc then chuck them on the curb. Somthing to think about, you could always just have your alarm, conect the over boost to a switch or somthing to immobilise the car.

Or pay out for a tracker I had one on my rs4 and it was worth it, still I know of people having ripped out trackers to nick rs6's...
