    Re: efi, remap question.

Matt, that would be pretty cool if you don't mind trusting me with it. I could have it back in the post the next working day. Pics are pretty good, I'd need to know what that zener diode was and what the transistors are, having it first hand to copy would be great, no chance of error then.

newb, if matt sends me his down I'll make you one for free. did you open your ECU to see if the hardware was there ? (R-tuner eprom in a socket should be visible enough I guess). I'd like to have an interface incase I ever need to map an R-tuner. making a couple up is no problem at all.

    No probs Scoff.
The R-Tuner chip should be in a socket type thing...I can't rembember the name of it....but the chip itself is removable...on the underside of mine is what looks like a blob of araldite....with tiny connections going to it.........I'll post a photo of it tonight.......

thats the eprom (or rom), it'll be stamped 27Cxxx or something like that, I don't know what eprom that ECU uses.

matt, if I PM you my address do you mind doing that ? I can take a diagram from it and get it back to you, then I can build some up from the diagram.

I looked around for people seeling r-tuner, no one to be found, I've asked henke if he's interested in supplying me just the rom's, it might be that he cannot be bothered with the hardware anymore, or the support of it. but, he may not mind selling someone a stack of roms.

    Re: efi, remap question.

I think those numbers are specific to fastchip/henke, I think that will be v3.5 probably, other numbers could just be a batch number and a serial, which I believe you need to active the rom on first use, when you first connect the r-tuner software.

ooh, that could be a non-programmable chip then, ie, a map that is fixed into the rom. fastchip sold a lot of those for 16v turbo conversions, I don't know if they offered the same for the R5. are you sure it is an r-tuner / re-programmable ECU that you have ? perhaps BB used R-tuner to map the engine and then sent the map's back to henke so that he could re-produce it into a fixed rom, on sale to the masses.

ah but, that kit will include a new ROM that allows the ECU to be re-mapped. If you already had the r-tuner (re-mappable) rom then the kit should have been more like 50.00 at worst, for an interface, like the one matt has pictured.

I fear you may not be able to re-map that. the rom should most likely say "r-tuner" on top of it like matt's.

ooh something that rings a bell. He stressed it was windows based and easy to use. Rememeber bb was also going to offer antilag, emission changes for a later date. This is the reason i think the chip is reprogrammable.

well young junior is full of b/s down there.I spoke to him at santa pod, when he had a c1j on displayIt had that tubular manifold they was gonna sell it was made out of cast. I spoke to him later and he said he was making them out of ssteel, however and stated he new nothing about talking to me about a cast item. This was even though he was ranting that he was making them out of cast for heat transfer and strength for half an hour.

like I say guys that £350 will be a complete r-tuner kit, fitted I hope for that, not just the software - which itself I think is free, I downloaded it years ago when it was on henke's site.
