I've finally after eight or so years put a head unit in my GTT. But now I've got a really annoying high pitch noise.
I've traced it back to the wideband gauge. Since then I've re wired the stereo and the gauge all the aem wires are in the engine bay with there own power and earth. I'm going to try a different head unit soon.
Anyone got any other suggestions as its driving crazier than I normally am.
Are your speakers amped? Any power leads near rca cables can cause interferance.
Yep all amped up but the RCA's are no where near the power and if I use my RCA lead to head phone lead and plug it into my iPod there's no issue. So that to me eliminates my amp wiring I think?
It's a constant buzz that does of change with rev's or volume so if I wack it up to 11 it's over powered.
Is it just with radio and CD's then? If so defo try another headunit first. If just radio id plug another ariel in the unit and see if that helps one that's completly seperate from the car.
Nope it's the same in cd mode, radio, Bluetooth, USB, memory card, aux jack and even if just powered up in standby. turn off the AEM and it's fine.
The only thing I did notice with all my rewiring was that having the head unit earthed made no difference to the head unit wether it was or wasn't.
What about if the unit is out of the console so its not touching anything?
Its the sameeven when I tried sending the wiresdirect to the battery out the window.
Bit of luck I'll have a borrowed head unit to try by the end of the week. Will be a real shame if my £35 Aldi stereo is at fault.
I've got one here you can try if that falls through.
Iv had this problem mate and never figured it out.. I swapped headunits, live earth rca cables and amps and still the same noise as what you get when turn stereo on.. really anoyying! I just dont turn mine on anymore lol.. If you figure out what it is let me know

Otherwise, AFAIK the GTT doesn't come with a ground loop isolator (or perhaps they were poor, or break, I don't know).

There also appears to be a range of noise filters you can try for not too much outlay.
I thought the buzzing sound came from a bad earth?
Thanks for the links Trevjust what I wanted a clear picture of how to ground the RCA's.
Got an alpine unit coming tomorrow to try so the cheap part will be out of the equation.
Was looking at the ground loop thingmejigs but only wanted to try one as a last hope.
After a good search there's quite a few supra's and Evo's with this issue too. So at least it's not just my French piece of tin.
The AEM forum say that the sensor should have its own power and its very own earth so out come another relay tomorrow I guess.
The last time I had this sort of issue was a dual earth which was causing the the interference I ended up pickin up a ground loop isolator for a few quid and worked a treat. This wasn't on a 5 but I can see same principles applying? First thought was alternator but as you say it doesn't change with revs I would go with parallel earths causing it
Trouble is I've tried several earthing positions all the same. The quietest I got it was with the stereo wires going out the passenger window to the battery and the aem going out the drivers window.can't really to a 1,000 mile euro trip like that.
Well little update I've moved the power and earths all again with no change to the buzz/hum. I tried an Alpine head unit and it made quieter only took to 3 on the volume over power the buzz rather than 10 on my unit.
So now it's time to try a dreaded ground loop isolator.
wasnt there a guy that got a bollocking from someone because his tv went funny everytime he drove his renault up to his house.. there was something on the gtt that stopped it, but his was disconnected and giving off interference..

I remember that too but not what was causing it.
My issue is with the aem.
Well fitted a ground loop isolator today has made the noise much quieter but it's still there. 3-5 volume over powers the buzz now on my stereo. but once the engine is running you can hardly hear it at all now so that's as good as I'll get it before Sanglier's.
Interferance suppressor. Small box about 2x1cm connected to the aei / coil. Oe part.
Dont have an aei
Could just wire it to the aem earth instead.
I had the same problem with my aem so used this in line to wire it up

I've not read the whole thread sorry, so ignore me if this has been suggested already. You could buy yourself a couple of decent sized ferrite rings and put a few turns each of the power and lambda wiring through it's own ring, placed as close as you can get to the gauge.
