    suspension problem

Took my 5 out earlier for the first time in a year and noticed a lots of banging and rattling coming from the drivers side suspension, jacked the car up and there's some movement in the strut top if I hold the wheel and move at 6 and 12 o'clock, is this normal or have I got cracked tophats ect, just thought I'd ask before stripping it all again, cheers in advance

Had that same problem last month, Just done mine but replaced both sides, hats & rubber mountings, if not, the chances are you'll be doing it again soon.

    My symptoms were,
Pot holes and small bumps in the road were like "Jiggidy Jiggidy" but hard like metal on metal, I've got a video here which may explain, every little bump in the road is exaggerated and the mounted camera takes a knocking.
listen at 12-16 seconds in vid.

I've attached a pic of what they were like when i got them out.
I was kindly given some newer oe struts (not the one in the pic) then purchased:
    2 X Suspension Top Hats
2 X Renault 5 GT Turbo Strut Top Mount Bushes in Polyurethane
    2 X Strut bearings
    £63 all with postage.

    Made so much difference!

If you can get some spring clamps, (which i didn't really need as once the car is jacked up, my koni springs are near full length but best be safe and easier getting back on again).
Get the strut off and check, mine were delivered next morning.

    Re: suspension problem

Very useful info there thanks stuff but I'm afraid I no longer have facebook to view the vid, luckily I have cgb round the corner so I'll go and get a ruck of bits at the weekend.. the main thing I'm worried about is when I drive over slight bumps it sounds as if the shockers topping out.. bit weird

I put that video as open to public mate, should just be a video link like youtube, you shouldn't need Facebook account to view it..
Maybe the spring isn't sitting in its groove or come out!
Get your clamps and get it off mate..

That price is from CGB via their Ebay account. Mike was on Hols at the time.
Give Bob @ cgb a call, ask for single postage.
