Re: RTOC Slag, Full non O.E. rebirth of H154 TGO.

My 5 just happen to have the square end rack to start with, so my column was already for the swap luckily.

R5 GTT actually came mixed of the two column from new. Try Bob at CGB or Mike at gt spares, I'm sure one of them will have a column with a square end buddy!

Ps, More updates of my build tomorrow.

You wont need the complete column. The lower part can be swapped over.

Sorry for the delay, I'll be digging it out of the garage when I get home from work in the morning. PM me your address and I'll post it out also.

Sorry for interrupting your thread Goobie!

Re: RTOC Slag, Full non O.E. rebirth of H154 TGO.

Gotton a bit side tracked with my update's, mainly due to me not wanting to post up anything till it's done genially but now time is against me.

I have a fair few things to post up that's gone on, but thing are coming to an end sooner than I had planned.

Ive been lucky enough to use my friends garden and power tools etc to really make this project my own full of detail one offs, but now there has been a complaint with council warning letter to clear my car off his land as it's rented council house and there is some terms and conditions in the tenancy agreement about none tax vehicles and some one saying my friend is running a car garage in his garden with me working away on my car.

As I don't want to take the p1ss, it now time to put my car away for the winter unfortunately. This isn't a rant, as I guess I have made a fair amount of noise this summer and have been lucky enough to get as far as I have in such a short space of time to be honest.

There will still be bits and bobs going on, but for the next few months it will be a case of slow progress which will leave me open to a few options I've been toying with anyway that I had planned for next year so in a way, this could be a blessing in disguise.

Re: RTOC Slag, Full non O.E. rebirth of H154 TGO.

    The long awaited engine pictures.

    Yup, my five gone F7!

My plan was to use this, then I changed my mind to something more one off that I know no one has done.

Anyway, more about that when it's finished.

After a few minor problems I decided for now to revert back to the original plan so I could have this running for this year which now on the back log for reasons stated above.

Was brought as a running engine with what was ment to be a little simple problem that turn out to be not the case.

In short, without the life story, stripped down, built back up and remade a whole host of custom parts to fit and work around it as your see as this unfolds.

Dude, have you got any pictures of the manifold your using ?? And would you be able to get another made up ???

I'm using a crappy cast item which leaves the turbo at the back of the engine, I ideally want to bring the turbo round to sit above the gearbox as yours is.

    Great build so far mate

They were already made previously, but have chopped them up and re welded, added beading round each end to stop them popping off and change where the dump valve outlet is twice as your see when I update this some more.

    Cheers buddy.

I've only really got two pictures to hand at the minute. It wasn't made by me etc, but was already part of the engine when I got it before I stripped it down.

It's not the best of manifolds, but has proven it self and previously made 330bhp and 290 torque on the dyno even though after taking it all apart I found numerous of lose, worn, broken gaskets etc, the worse part was the manifold base plate, was badly warped so ended up costing £90 to get machined flat. Your see in the second picture the welds need grinding out on the inlets to.

I am looking to actually make a fresh one from scratch and maybe a couple spare ones, but we are talking a long way off yet now on that idea.

Knocked up my own engine torque damper.

Tweaked it a little more since these pictures, but you get the idea, now just needs each end part blasting and powder coating along with aload of other parts I've made.

Re: RTOC Slag, Full non O.E. rebirth of H154 TGO.

Next up, my focus turn to my inlet set up. This is proberly my favourite one off mod on this build, so simple but very effective.

As stated up this page some where, I've changed my dump value outlet on my boost pipe a couple times as plans change for better idea/design as the build develops.

Still needs more flatting and of course powder coating, but this is where it stands as of a month ago.

I'm running Morette twin head lights with air feed, my air filter sits behind the headlight with the direct air flow thought the feed. I've use an old one off induction pipe that was on the Impreza, chopped it up and was left with this to work from.

Bit more chopping etc, used some left over pipe from my wastegate/screamer pipe I made, angled and welded, flatted some more blar blar and I was left with this!

Re: RTOC Slag, Full non O.E. rebirth of H154 TGO.

I'm running the HKS SSQV mainly for its re circulation capability, as I want functionality with it being closed loop, so should help keep lag low as well as minimise wasted boost.

Anyway, I then relocated where my dump valve outlet was again to suit.

It now all lines up perfectly.

How far off are we talking ??? I'm looking to swap the engine over on mine over the winter, I'm in no major rush to get the manifold put on before the swap... But it would be nice to be able to bolt it on before dropping in engine in.

Either way, I'm definitely interested in one as long as we aren't talking silly money.

I already had the blow off valve buddy.

Ref to lag, just poor choice of wording on my part. But as already said, it's only there for functionality with it being perposly closed loop set up to minimise boost waste/turbo stall as well as keeping it silence as possible.

Will look cleaner etc once everything been cleaned and painted, hence I wasn't going to post any updates till these were all finish and running.

I have a lot more detail one offs that I may post up? Maybe

The updates above are two months old.

I may of already mention some where, I'm a lot more near complete than I've let on but been holding things back as got some not done before things that was ment to be going in this build, but "lose lips, sink ships"

Next spring mate, no idea how much, won't be big bucks, just comes down to how much materials cost. If any, you can have first pick of the one I got now once I'm done with it buddy.

So, I decided to rework my whole exhaust system.

Ordered few pipes and couple of silencers and recycled some of my old badly made one.

Re: RTOC Slag, Full non O.E. rebirth of H154 TGO.

First up I remade my down pipe.

The one I had was 2.5 inch dia then half changed to 3 inch only to then bottle neck to 2.5 again at the end and throughout whilst also cover dead center over the heater matrix outlets so this had to change.

It's now all 2.5inch dia, flex in the middle flat section to help when going over speed bumps if the center pipe under the car catches it will have freedom allow it to be punched up and down without putting extra stress on the turbo and manifold etc etc...

Oh, and I've made it so it completely clears the heater matrix pipes now to, hence the funny shape.

Re: RTOC Slag, Full non O.E. rebirth of H154 TGO.

Next up, started on making my center section.

    Again, 2.5inch dia.

Ideally, my main plan was to make this fairly quite hence the two silencers. I like subtle bubble, not a roaring away drawing attention, especially unwanted attention.

Originally the larger silencer was going to be in the center area like on side exhaust, but after measuring and test fitting in a few places, it turn out that fitting it near the front I was able to actually get the smaller one fairly tucked up high and out the way giving more ground clearance than of it was further back.

Re: RTOC Slag, Full non O.E. rebirth of H154 TGO.

After having it on and off the car alot, it was time to add some extra piece of mind safety.

So knocked up a bash guard to the front of the silencer so in the unlikely event of catching it on a speed bump etc it will simply help push the system up instead of catching and yanking back off the car, hence the already welded in flexie in my down pipe.

And just for added bro points I also added another fixing point at the front that bolts to my subframe with a spring inbetween so it holds it at a minimum low point but at the same time allowes it to be push squashed upwards.

Hard to explain, but your get the idea when you see the fully fitted pictures.

    Back box time.

So far everything was fairly easy, the rear box pipping on the other hand was a challenge some what.

Two 45 bends, t bars pulled out with trailing arm fully pushed up to make sure nothing touches etc thrown in with a lot of chopping plus chopped o.e. hanger fixing points to and moved them to a better suit position to give better sturdier support.

Oh, and I cut off an old 3 inch tailpipe and stuck it on the polisher welded that on the end, turn really well in the end.

Fitment spot on even gap all round the bumper exhaust slot, even with a lot of aggressive pulling shaking about etc it stays sitting it the correct spot.

Il be changing this of a full three inch turbo back system next spring, was good practise to say the least.

I've actually been thinking of updating this the last couple of weeks.

I've still been buying bits and bobs here and there, but in my true style, progress post's won't be up till whatever part im working on at the time is done. Although, expect a lot of picture bombing on here come end of march if not sooner.

I'm just itching to get on with it lately and really looking forward getting it MOT and brining it to as many meets and events as possible.

Well, as I've not posted any pictures I've throw this one in for my fans.

Got these little beauty's after seeing Davo aka TopCat get a set for his car and kindly pm me the link.

I'm sure some brat will five finger discount them for their bike once left unattended.
