Haha nice one mate, the amount of rot taken out of your car is unbelievable! Great that you saved it pal, when u reckon you'll be driving her then?. Ordered my decals from mike so can't wait to get them, then she needs a respray, it's all happening at the mo tho, selling the leon for a boring everyday car so I can pay more attention to the old girl. Gota be done really

well my car was meant be going in for mot today, as always with the argumentative little swine it decided my fuel pump wasnt going to work, so looks like its the relay, hopefully going bridge the wires tomorrow and get it sorted.

Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration

thought id just keep anyone interested informed on the fuel pump situation, we tested the relay and even bridged it and still no joy,.
then fount we had no live going to the pump we tried a few things including running a wire from battery to pump which got it working, then traced the wiring in the car to find one of the connection boxes on drivers side.
tested to see what lives we had which we could see one offending green wire which was only lighting up very dim and by chance i noticed when my mate was moving it about it was sending my fuel gauge up and down.

so it looks like we have fount the problem its just a matter of getting it sorted hopefully be able persuade my auto electrician mate pop up to the garage one day and sort it.

I have just this second sorted 6 months tax for the car online, so alls it is a matter of is finishing the remaining last bits and ill be finally back out boosting

engine wise is pretty basic nothing fancy

    t28.63 turbo @23psi
    285 cam
    headwork
    ported inlet

just a note that when it did 230 it was running mega rich (10.6afr @wot) also had 2" system and ktec downpipe on oe elbow. fuelling is now leaned out to around 11.4 afr and full 2.5" system with bjr downpipe/elbow, have also had a billet comp wheel fitted into turbo

I think the wheels (if you're keeping these and in black too), look better with the centre caps off, especially if it's going on track

I'm interested to see the results of this billet comp wheel it's something I'm considering myself. Was the comp wheel the same size as the one that was on before?

From what I have been lead to believe billet compressor wheels came about to cope with higher pressure ratios (2.5 bar+) on turbos where the cast wheel would burst.

Interesting, will the fin design help with efficiency at lower boost levels, or am i just pie in the sky and it won't make a jot of difference at lower boost levels?

I can sort of understand how something lighter and thinner will be more efficient over a heavier thicker item.

nice one phil i defo wouldnt say its flawless but its defo good enough for me and a huge improvement on how it was.

had fun yesterday went a drive out with the mrs to a country pub so i decided give it a bit of stick on a nice open part of road 2nd gear full boost all hell breaks loose changes to 3rd and nothing no boost at all.

so i carried on to the pub then investigated after we had lunch, fount it to be the bloody actuator rod had come off the bracket hence no boost, got it refitted and burnt the feck outta my thumb and finger.
only prob was then it was making way to much boost like 30psi+ so i drove it off boost until we got home, then adjusted rod again and turned bleed valve right off, didnt have chance to pop back out as we were going to meet up with a few mates.

ill report back with my findings later on.

I have a new billet comp wheel on my new Gerrett t28 RB. Boosts earlier by about 500-1000 rpm. Worthy upgrade for drivability and mid range torque.

The extra lag will be because it's a bigger wheel, either that or there's a boost leak somewhere, like for like in trim size and the billet wheel should reduce lag not increase it.

ay up ash dont worry fella i hav got to the bottom of the whole issue, seems like when george refitted my turbo he didnt fit the nut that goes on actuator rod hence why there isnt any preload (or is for 2 mins then gone).

case and point yesterday i got it back at just under 20psi for all of about 5 mins then it was 10 then nothing, drove back most way from donington as an n/a c1j

easy fix though and hopefully get it sorted this week sometime
