haha theres no way this engine is going anywhere its a cracking little powerhouse, be interesting see how much its gained off a few mods to fuelling/exhaust system etc
the finishing piece to my car for this year, brand new genuine renault r5gtt headlights courtesy of GtTurbo Spares huge thanks to mike yet again.
on another note my mates heart op went well and the mad swine has been back into work today, so im going see about getting my car in for mot asap then sorting the skirts/paint on door and refitting that one decal after that.
car could very well be going in for m.o.t tomorrow, still wont be able use it but at least its another thing crossed off the list
it's all progress matey!
damn right fella, theres one thing for sure it cant fail on corrosion haha
Haha nice one mate, the amount of rot taken out of your car is unbelievable! Great that you saved it pal, when u reckon you'll be driving her then?. Ordered my decals from mike so can't wait to get them, then she needs a respray, it's all happening at the mo tho, selling the leon for a boring everyday car so I can pay more attention to the old girl. Gota be done really
i cant see me driving it before august as me n the mrs go on hols end of july, although i just might sneak a few blasts in it beforehand.
andy if you want a full hit on your car and your prepared get it to stoke i can get it you done for a price you wouldnt think possible. pm me for more info
well my car was meant be going in for mot today, as always with the argumentative little swine it decided my fuel pump wasnt going to work, so looks like its the relay, hopefully going bridge the wires tomorrow and get it sorted.
thought id just keep anyone interested informed on the fuel pump situation, we tested the relay and even bridged it and still no joy,.
then fount we had no live going to the pump we tried a few things including running a wire from battery to pump which got it working, then traced the wiring in the car to find one of the connection boxes on drivers side.
tested to see what lives we had which we could see one offending green wire which was only lighting up very dim and by chance i noticed when my mate was moving it about it was sending my fuel gauge up and down.
so it looks like we have fount the problem its just a matter of getting it sorted hopefully be able persuade my auto electrician mate pop up to the garage one day and sort it.
bit of an update for you guys
got the fuel pump issue sorted out (bloody electrics) and whilst at it sorted all the wiring for the dash so now everything works as it should.
ill let the next 2 pics do the talking on the main update
over the moon first mot since late 2010 and passed without one single advisory the tester was very impressed with it.
I have just this second sorted 6 months tax for the car online, so alls it is a matter of is finishing the remaining last bits and ill be finally back out boosting
good man andy lets see this old girl at some events now, shame you missed the big3 but theres always next year, keep us updated matey, what did she have the last time she was on the rollers
If all goes to plan I could very well be taking it for a shakedown to donington park on sunday for the rs owners club national day.
It did 230bhp last time it was on wgt hub dyno in oct 2011. Theres more in there now as well
cheers matty, i think if someone offered the right money then id sell it and id imagine the mrs would be happy haha.
engine wise is pretty basic nothing fancy
t28.63 turbo @23psi
285 cam
headwork
ported inlet
just a note that when it did 230 it was running mega rich (10.6afr @wot) also had 2" system and ktec downpipe on oe elbow. fuelling is now leaned out to around 11.4 afr and full 2.5" system with bjr downpipe/elbow, have also had a billet comp wheel fitted into turbo
, cheers for the info bud, I must say if ya sell her...damn youll regret that and end up filling for divorce...., she looks happy at home... like she wants to stay.. {the car that is}...., good going bud.. an nice rescue job...
Looking good Andy bet she's happy to be home you taking her to donny this weekend?
Sounds good mate, should be a good day, got abit of a ford softspot tbh lol, went to a good show on sun in the 5 there was an insanely clean s1 rs turbo I would have sold my right arm to own lol. Don't know weather u saw pics I put up, there int gen chat under fueled society show, some mint cars there then mine lol
its normally a great day will be even better this year as no noise limit on track so all the big boys are running.
i shall check them out now i very nearly had a series one rst before i bought my 5.
Yummers
I think the wheels (if you're keeping these and in black too), look better with the centre caps off, especially if it's going on track
thanks trev
and you must of been mind reading as me an my bro were earlier weighing up what looks best and we both decided on without centre caps.
so ill need a new set of wheel nuts and lockers do any of you guys know the exact size i need for a 5?
thanks matt
just got the idle fuelling pretty much bang on 14.2-14.5 so very happy with that
Looks Amazing Andy, Very Very well done!!!
What time are you leaving for donnington on sunday? Ive a pal who's into fords. Might see if hes up for it & we can follow you down.
nice one pal its not far off now
will be heading down at 9am sunday morning
Having a bask in the sun after a quick blast around.
Looking good mr blunts! How's she feeling?
Driving great although have gained 500rpm lag using this billet comp wheel. Iv still got the nodiz kit here butthat thing wont be going on for a long time yet.
Won't make it down to donington tomorrow mate, bumper hay bale production this year so will be spending all day stacking the dam things into the barn!! Hope you have a great trip out in YES & get loads of pics!!
From what I have been lead to believe billet compressor wheels came about to cope with higher pressure ratios (2.5 bar+) on turbos where the cast wheel would burst.
Interesting, will the fin design help with efficiency at lower boost levels, or am i just pie in the sky and it won't make a jot of difference at lower boost levels?
I can sort of understand how something lighter and thinner will be more efficient over a heavier thicker item.
here's 1 more mod you can do to that type of turbo fit a t34 compressor wheel into the t3 compressor housing, on my car proven 12.1 at pod on a carb standard ignition without noz
Cheers Andy, love the effort that your putting in, appears to be paying off also, looks almost flawless in the pictures
nice one phil i defo wouldnt say its flawless but its defo good enough for me and a huge improvement on how it was.
had fun yesterday went a drive out with the mrs to a country pub so i decided give it a bit of stick on a nice open part of road 2nd gear full boost all hell breaks loose changes to 3rd and nothing no boost at all.
so i carried on to the pub then investigated after we had lunch, fount it to be the bloody actuator rod had come off the bracket hence no boost, got it refitted and burnt the feck outta my thumb and finger.
only prob was then it was making way to much boost like 30psi+ so i drove it off boost until we got home, then adjusted rod again and turned bleed valve right off, didnt have chance to pop back out as we were going to meet up with a few mates.
ill report back with my findings later on.
Your joking right andy?
Hope I aint in the lag boat when my billet badboy is fitted, the nodiz will help but if what you say is true lad time to back with the old comp wheels........
ay up ash dont worry fella i hav got to the bottom of the whole issue, seems like when george refitted my turbo he didnt fit the nut that goes on actuator rod hence why there isnt any preload (or is for 2 mins then gone).
case and point yesterday i got it back at just under 20psi for all of about 5 mins then it was 10 then nothing, drove back most way from donington as an n/a c1j
easy fix though and hopefully get it sorted this week sometime
got an early finish from work today so got home and sorted the actuator rod out finally fount a nut that fitted nice and set the preload, going to take the car out later on to see whats what then ill report.
