    Rover SD1 vitesse. 3.5 V8 manual. £875. Grimsby

    Hey guys,

bad time to be selling a car perhaps but that's why Ive priced it low.

I took this back in part exchange against my Suzuki cappuccino last week. I sold it to Thomas (the doctor) in holland last year and as such it's currently still Dutch registered.

As far as I'm aware, it's £80 to get it re-registered here.

I shall copy and paste Thomas' advert as there are loads of good pictures of it in there:

    Model: Rover SD1 Vitesse

    Year: 1984

    Mileage: 147000 miles

Tax: Nope, cause it's on dutch plates!

MOT: No, but it has a dutch MoT valid for at least 6 months (dutch 'DVLA' copy outside NL MoT's, dunno about the UK though!)

    Pics:

I bought this last year from this very forum, because I wanted something English and a V8 was nice as well. Drove home fine and tried to get it registered overhere.

Failed it's test, so I fixed the list:

    - new front/rear brake pipes
    - new front braided brake lines (cause I stripped the rubber lines when undoing them), rear not yet fitted.
    - new rear brake cillinders and shoes.
    - refurbed rack (2000 mile old when I fitted it)
    - new trackrod ends
    - new rear half of exhaust (not OEM, custom system with 1 box deleted, still is nice and quiet)

When waiting on some parts, I also did the headgaskets, as there was quite a bit of mayo in both covers.

Heads where cleaned, skimmed and checked, new tin gaskets (correct ones) and replaced all the top end gaskets and seals as well.
In the same time the alternator and starter where refurbed so they are all as good as new!
Engine runs sweet, pulls very good and hasn't missed a beat since I did the headgaskets.
Just replaced the fuel pump, because the old one wasn't working anymore, I added a pre-filter, because of the bad name these have for stuff in the tank killing the pump. I didn't see anything coming out of the tank when I swapped the pumps, but just in case I added the filter.

Overall it's a good and honest car. The rear arches are very good, the front ones are a bit frilly around the edges, and just like any other SD1, all 4 doors are rotten. They are water tight, but the bottom is very rusty. If i'd keep it, I probably would've forked out for 4 new doors from Rimmer Bros.

Electrically almost everything works (no really!). The first setting on the heater doesn't work, but it works perfectly on full power and the left rear electric window doesn't work anymore, because I disabled it! It kept on jamming with the window down! I think it's the grease in the runners gone hard.

The boardcomputer still works, the speed and fuel sensor still give their info to it, so it tells you the average consumption/speed/distance travelled etc. etc.

On the pictures, the Vitesse front spoiler and spats are missing.
I have both in possesion, the spats are off because of some welding done on the passenger rear sill, took the other one off to inspect. The front spoiler is there, but the holes to fit it aren't!
Sometime in it's past, it's been ripped off and all the holes in the underbelly panel are gone.

    and a little vid:

There are a couple of jobs that need sorting.

The rear brakes. From what I've been told the rear adjusters work on some kind of ratchet set up. Apparently this has become faulty so needs looking at. The brakes work perfectly so long as the handbrake is applied one click.

The radiator needs bleeding properly. Will tick over at just below 100 degrees all day but the warning lamp comes on due to air in the system. Give it a blip of throttle to get the water circulating and it goes straight out again.

It also comes with a set of lowering springs to lose the comedy ride height.

Here's Thomas' build thread on the car:

The car is located in Grimsby and can be seen at pretty much any time. Starts on the button and sounds great.

I'm asking £950 seeing as Christmas is just around the corner but would take a small economical but INTERESTING 80s/90s car in part ex. (Mk2 fiesta, nova etc)

    NOW AT £875

Get me by pm or call me on 0789411237three

    Thanks

    Hehehe, cool.

Are they as fun to drive as they look?

I think they had the same engine as the Honda beat, just that the Honda didn't have the turbo.

They are incredibly good fun to drive. Much better engines than the Honda beat and can make very good power. Up to 200bhp on standard internals.

I have a really varied selection of cars and usually go for quite oddball stuff.

    Glad you like it.

Have you seen the one on pistonheads recently, proper article, not a for sale item.

    350hp turbocharged Hayabusa engine!

    Now way, that's awesome.

Looks like a cross between an early MX5, a Smart Brabus and a squashed S2000.
