My new 5 ***now for sale***

    Hello!

After many months searching for a half decent 5, I now have one!

Thanks to Mike @ GT Turbo Spares. Really love this car, and apart from tidying up a couple of dents it's mint. Virtually no rust at all.

It's staying completely standard. Looking at having it resprayed in the new year and the interior tidied up. All ready for next summer.

She's safely tucked away in the garage.

I have attached images to my profile cos I have no idea how to attach them on this thread.

Thanks mate. I cant take any credit for the condition its in. Thats all down to Mike.

First of all its gonna get the once over from Dale (Bigfoot) for anything missing etc

Then next weekend the torsion bar is being rubbed down and painted and the underside waxoiled.

Then the front seats back to their former glory, Then the respray mate. The tungy in the restoration is gonna be my inspiration. I think Jonny5's one. Looks fantastic. If this one looks half as good as that by the end i'll be chuffed to bits.

If you're from Shrewsbury u must know Dan Grier?

    Re: My new 5

Ill PM you my email address, be great to see some more pics.

As for my one, I've just zip tied up some of th harness as it was rubbing slightly, then I soldered in new wiring to the radiator fan (it had been crimped) so soldered up and then heat shrink over and some electrical tape over it an secured.

Ran it up, the fan cut in fine. Happy days. I might get a low temp switch to get the fan to cut in a bit earlier than normal. Just for peace of mind.

I'm off to Ipswich in her tomorrow (if its dry).

It smells like it could be running a bit rich- any ideas?

I was gonna view the black one, but fell for the tungy straight away. There's so much I want to do to it, just want to get it all done ASAP. Trying to source some mint door card fabric, but it seems impossible to buy. I might have to get it dyed charcoal grey.

Not sure how it would come out though?

If you can't find any through mike where the car come from the only thing I can think of is speak to the flocking company in here think it's Phoenix autosport or something like that his work looks very impressive and I bet he could almost colour match and re cover your door cards mate

    Great pics!

Phoenix Autosport, do the flocking. Look up the threads with the door card pics, they are awesome, certainly the next best thing to OE and much better than most OE door cards out there!

    Re: My new 5

Front door cards (which were in good nick anyway) have been re glued and look great.

Rear door cards unfortunately are buggered, so I'm going to get them replaced.

Then i spent ages rubbing lots of old mud and crap from the bottom and I then wax oiled it. It's possibly the messiest job u can do.

Just got to remove the exhaust and finish a second coat of wax oil and fit the OE exhaust and the underside and arches are finished.

Undersealing has transformed the car underneath- it looks like new. Ill add some pics after the exhaust has been replaced.

Next up is the rear door cards to be re trimmed. Then onto the front seats being re upholstered. Then that's the interior finished.

The dent/scratch man is coming Tuesday and doing his magic.

After the sucess of the underseal and the front door cards looking tip top, I decided to remove my steering wheel, as the paint was peeling off in patches.

I rubbed it back but quite liked the polished look so polished it right up and the pics show the end result. Took me about 2 hours to rub the front and back and the fiddly bits, but i think it looks quite good.

Bad News! I decided to polish my car today as Iwasnt busy And thought i'd remove the alloy caps and buff them up with some metal polish. To my shock & disbelief I found that one of the wheel bolts had been snapped off by someone.

Just another thing to add to the ever growing list of things to do. Oh well.

I got a rear bumper to pick up from mark in Aylesbury tomorrow, so that should be fitted by then.

    It's the passenger rear.

Cheers mate. It took me forever to get it rubbed down front and back. And about half hour polishing it. I didn't have the heart to spray it after it turned out like that.

    Re: My new 5

The interior has been stripped out- In the Interior specialists to get fully retrimmed.

The front doorcards are also off now as well getting retrimmed.

Wednesday its having the Car Alarm/Immobiliser fitted & a new CD Player.

I'd say the project will be 75% complete by Friday.

Next Step is the Brand new front bumper, Grille, arches & Tailgate trim to be sprayed.

I'll add pics of the interior once installed

    Getting there!
