    what turbo???

hi, have a b18ft engine in my 5, i think my turbo might be on its way out so best to look for a replacement, its a standard engine, apart from air filter and exhaust, i am looking to upgrade through time, sure its a standard t2 thats on it. is there another slightly bigger turbo out there i can get and fit without too much modifications. and not overly expensive, more than likely 2nd hand.

    many thanks

    Re: what turbo???

    Get looking for a T25 or a T28 mate

There will be plenty on Ebay, either listed as pulsar or Sylvia(spelling?) variants. I'm not sure on the exact specs but I think they come in at .64 or .49 rear housing sizes. There are a few ppl on here who will be able to advise you further as to which will be better suited to your engine

    Re: what turbo???

No larger turbo out there is a direct replacement so will need modifiying to fit, more than likely a new downpipe will be needed as the standard one only fits to standard turbo.

If you fit larger turbo check the fueling and asjust AFM if needed, depending on boost you might need sokme injectors too but you'll be able to tell once you have AFR readings

When you adjust the AFM meter your adjusting the fuel abit so ideally you need to check the AFR's while driving with new turbo fitted, this will tell you if it needs adjusting and by how much

To check AFR's you'll need to fit an AFR gauge to the car, monitor the fueling then you can adjust it to suit

Depending on what turbo size, boost and other mods you do will determine the mods you need to do to fuel it right. The Volvo engine is little more complicated to do but its not to bad once know

    Re: what turbo???

Either of those turbos will fit the manifold but you will need to modify the downpipe to make it fit
Also oil feed and return will need modding or new ones making

The first turbo is slightly bigger, if you after a slight ugrade i would prob say second would be one to go for

I'm not after mega power as its a daily runner and still want it reliable, about 160bhp I'd be happy with, more than 200

yea, used to a while ago, before a lengthy ban , might get something else next year for track but doing this car up comes before all that.

    Re: what turbo???

200sx t28 with the .64 rear. You'll get full boost by 3k great turbo. You will need bigger injectors if you want to run more than 15-18psi on that blower, if you want to keep driveability then go for the Volvo green ones with the resistor pack. If you want loads of boost t5 orange or Saab reds with a bypass hole but its difficult to get it to fuel properly.

    Re: what turbo???

There's one on eBay at the min for 100quid. Does say it was intended to go on a pulsar so may have the .86 rear so may be worth asking the bloke if it does or not. The .86 may be a bit big for you I get full boost by 4k but that's a lot of boost

    Re: what turbo???

That will spool up quick, but it will restrict top end power a little as I found when I had a small blower on. If you're only looking for a bar of boost couple it with some Volvo green injectors, should go quite well but keep the drivability.

I have the gt28rs with the .86 rear and its a great turbo. Also I don't know about power but that was running 1.7bar for a while and standard engine took it no probs.

Rebuilt?? That's very cheap as the rebuild would cost more than that alone.

    Re: what turbo???

If your only after a bar of boost or 160bhp then the standard turbo will be fine, didn't relaise you only wanted to go that much power.

If you wanted more then i would upgrade as about 15psi is most i'd take a standard unit

I'm needing a new turbo so best to go big with little boost rather than little turbo with mega boost, is imagine.
