    fumes in car

Any ideas why fumes are coming in to car? Thought it was down pipe but tightened it up.

Boost feels a bit weak and at 2000rpm in 4th car was very loud today. Hmmm :-(

youve got incar boost and are taking the feed from the centre port in the middle of the carb ( the one that is mixing air with fuel)

    Re: fumes in car

Ah sparkie ur a genius lol. I bet that is the problem ;-). I dont know where else it goes :-(. It's between carb and actuator at the moment.

I feel my engines knackered though it's never felt right since I've had the car. It's getting me down a bit now :-( power is terrible. Feels on the verge of blowing up and I don't run much over 10psi.

    Re: fumes in car

Well sounds funny on start from cold, rattley maybe. And power feels weak. On boost their feels like the engine has nothing to give, which makes me wary about givin it some (blow up an exaggeration perhaps!).

Was not in good condition when I brought it and in hindsight I should of waited for something better. I've changed alot of things. On 3rd drivers side drive shaft now. I have replaced all that side of car now suspension mounts, ball joint etc so hopefully will be ok.

I'm not mechanical at all. But have Learnt alot the past few months! I check water and engine no mayo but I still have a feeling something is not right. Checking receipts it's had a lot of engine bits (pistons, head gasket, big end bearings). But up to 5 years ago so doesn't count I guess.

I've never been in a 5 other than mine so have no comparison.

Sorry for essay! :-) just annoying when you spend alot of time on something ;-)

    Re: fumes in car

Btw i have engine bay boost controller and boost gauge in car connected to carb - actuator.

Would it be the gauge that smells? As it only seems to get fumes when I get some boost? Cheers :-)

    Re: fumes in car

    hmm

get a funny noise from right hand side of engine bay when i put foot down. had this with t2 fitted and its worse with gt28. like a rattle/metal noise. sounds like carb area not sure. maybe leak?!

I have another carb might try and fit it. is it a simple job of disconnecting and unscrewing replumbing?

Does it sound like tappets ? is so could be the manifold gasket. Have you checked there is nothing loose that could be rattling around ?

is the metal plate that covers the inlet/exhaust manifold actually bolted to the inlet manfold? - its under the carb- next to the rocker cover.

if its loose it can rattle.

I developed a very good 'spider sense' when driving my GTT's. Sometimes you can just tell there's something not quite right. Difficult to put into words but I bet there are other members on here that have the same or similar.
