    alloy wheel rub

i picked up a set of TSW hockenheims for my 5. they are 15" so should go on no problem. i put them on no problem noticed the rims run close to the front caliper. i took the car for a ride and could hear grinding from the front.
when i took the front wheels off i noticed the outer edge of the caliper was rubbing on the inner wheel. i thought 15" wheels should clear fine.?

also there are no spigot rings in the wheels. do i need these? could that be the problem also?

Do you know what the offset of the wheel is mate? I've had these rims before and know the caliper is fairly close but should clear, offset would make difference.

Yeah i would run spigot rins if it needs them mate, helps keep wheel center on the hub

not sure of the off set. got them off a guy who said they were fitted to his 5 gt turbo. they spin okay and fit in the arches ok but appear to just catch a little. if i fit spigot rings could this solve the problem? also the grinding is louder when cornering.

what size spigot rings do i need? is it 72mm x 57.1mm??

    ta

That spigot ring sounds about right mate, they won't stop the contact but help keep wheel more secure on the hub

If you look at reverse of the wheel (mounting face) sometimes its cast in there what the offset is, should be an 'et' number. For the 5 ideally its et35

offset should be stamped inside the wheel matey.should say et then a number after it.
spigot rings probably wont make a difference to the grinding but without them you will get wheel wobble at higher speeds
maybe try a small spacer that will probably sort it

Fit the spigot rings and some 3mm spacers, you could grind a bit of the caliper and give them a paint, either option if they are just rubbing.

If it hits the front of the calliper you may get away with it when the pads wear down a bit, probs why the other guy had no probs. I thought the spacers had to be 60.1mm

So is the hub 57.1 or 60.1?

I may just file a touch of the front of the hub. See if that works.

do you think it is ok to file off the front corner of the caliper carrier? it is only a slight rub.

Well I'm running the ktec racing 285mm disks and it's fine but not having the spigot rings on has put pressure on my wheel bolts and one did snap off
