could someone tell me how to check the rad fan while the car is not running.?
im just wanting to double check if it actually works.[its a new spal fan]
am i right in thinking i can simply run 1 wire from the + battery terminal and 1 wire from the - battery terminal to the rad fan power connection.?
near the rad end there should be a plug, pull it apart and you will find your pos & neg, the wires come off the fan

also, does anyone know how far up the temperature gauge the rad fan should kick in when using a std temperature thermostat and rad fan switch etc.?
would it be inbetween the 2nd and 3rd markers?
It will depend on what rad switch you are running? The standard on which I think is 83 - 92 will cut in just before the third line which I think is far too late. A lower temp one will kick in just after the second line.
With a standard radiator fan switch, it should come on round about the two-thirds mark on the gauge. Normal running temperature is between 1/3 and 2/3.
The usual low temperature rad fan switch modification moves the fan switching point to around 1/2. There's really no massive need to do this though if your radiator is in good condition.

as for a low temp fan switch kicking in just after the 2nd mark!!! i dont like the idea of that tbh, seem abit to low for a fan switch to kick in.
std switch for me all the way,always has been ith no probs.
The marks correspond to roughly 30°C for the first mark (just off horizontal), 60°C for the 1/3 mark, 90°C for the 2/3 mark and 120°C for the hashed bit at the top.
Normal running temperature is around 80°C - ie pretty much the middle of the gauge.
if you disconnect the fan switch plug, an short the pins in plug together, fan should come on, this tests the entire circuit other than the fan switch
I have a low temp switch... and it still doesn't kick in earlier than just before the 3rd marker... but I guess that's fine anyway
