Cant really go wrong with toyo T1R's...

Common, cheapish, good on road & track....

I cant fault them really for the money.

Just bought some 595-rsr for the Jap taxi - Will let you know what they're like, as hoping to attend a trackday in the next couple of weekends, or if not, at Oulton Park start of March.

I bought a set of these as I couldnt find any road legal slicks to fit 16" wheels. they seem good from the small amount of used the car

I run Toyo T1 R's on my 106 GTi but it hasn't even sniffed a track, never mind been on one - have heard good things though. The clueless chap in the garage who did my tracking did make me laugh though talking to Adam thinking they were on the car already when I bought it... "'Hey boss, these are pretty dear and for track cars right, you race this then?". Errrrr about £60 a corner actually mate and it's never seen a track, get a new job

i've had t1rs on the 5 and they were great, on the 182 they were dog cr&p till they got down to about 5mm..

i worked at a tyre garage and lots of track users ran cut down tyres, often taking off the first 3mm.. dont save them for the day, use them

I delaminated a t1r going around snetterton and the sidewalls are very soft.... if you look in my project thread there's a picture where you can see the nsf Tyre flex alot

best off buying a track tyre n wheel set as you'll have much more fun on proper tyres

what tyre pressures where you running,to get them doing that
my choice would be toyo r1r for road use and the odd track day,
or r888 if you have bit more cash to spend and you intend to track day only with the intention of pushing your car hard around the track
race slicks are even better but i'm unsure if most trackday organisers insist on a roll cage fitted,if using them, worth finding out first,or wait for one of the hardcore track brigade to reply

It seems that a lot of people reckon that it depends on the car massively with T1-R's. I had them on my 5, and they were a pretty good all-rounder. On my Escort however, they were worse than some remoulds

If I ever have the choice of tyres, I always go for Michelin. They might be one of the more expensive brands out there, but personally, I've never had a bad one, on any car . Plus, surely Renault can't be wrong?

the mich exaltos were half worn at near 25k and cracking due to age.. it was a set of michelins again for £400+ discounted, with me fitting them for free, or it was t1rs for £220

i wouldn't fit them to a clio 182 again as they wore out long before they were due although the michelins dont last due to age, they were worth every penny and would have more so if we'd covered the 50k they would have lasted..

im going with goodyears eagles on my avezs and if the sizes are right perhaps r1r on the williams..

When I bought the Evo it came with newly fitted Eagle F1 Assymetrics. After a year, and 10k light miles, all four had cracked badly around the inside shoulder. After doing some interweb hunting, it seemed to be a common problem The grip on them (especially in the wet) was very good though.

I then switched to Michelin PS3's, and although I don't think they offer quite as much wet grip as the F1's, they've been bang on, and are lasting very well

I find Prada spec 2s good for a lightish car, very grippy. Depends how hard you drive though, in a 5 and 11 I loved them and on my Clio but when running with more power in the Clio I found that I started to pull chunks off in the corners, I am quite aggressive on the cars though so this could be the problem

We has asymmetrics on my partners a3, both sides on the rear failed on mot, the tread had twisted on both tyres, they were 2 years old, with 6mm of tread still on them. She replaced with asymmetric 2s, had i known at the time the problems with the asymmetric we would have stayed clear and bought another brand. We even complained to goodyear and got zip

    Realy bad service

Be fine with standard disc's as long as you get pads for the Renault 5 fitment

I use medium compound a048s on the van and I had the tread on meltdown at Mallory, soft wouldn't have lasted 5 mins for me. Ds2500 pads are an awesome upgrade for standard sized Gtt brakes, same with mintex 1144.

Brigsy, did you notice much difference between the the two? I ended up buying the 1144's as they were half the price.

poly's are good .. but no better than new standard one's.............. poly's i think are about a hundred quid plus the original bushes on the car will probably be seized , so most people will need to buy new wishbones and then find someone with a press to swap the new originals to the polys...... but originals are next to nothing........ ive ran new originals on the cup car and i've a set of polys in the garage gathering dust.....i bought 2 new wishbones £30 each with bushes fitted and new track rod ends £6.....also anti roll bar bushes and top mount doughnuts £8 and the steering bush...£13 .. all from GSF....... cheap and easy to fit...

simples.... and you might find the shocks are actually in good order once every thing is tight again .. or maybe truelly shaged........

Renault made a good car.. back in 1985............20 years later most just need new original parts to be great again...............
