Mara, I thought they were the same also!
I was just doing a bit of research on re lacquering the roof on the 5,and just read on a spray painting forum that there are "two very different beasts"(on a yank forum), god there nobs
its had me searching google for the past 30 mins,thinking I may have bought 2 litres of the wrong stuff,so i give up and posted on here

i had a cold once,so looked online, and the forum said i have a month to live

there are 3 phase for painting pearl white:
1-paint white
2-pearl transparency
3-clear

Or as I did hit it in beige high build, put the pearl white base on, clear, take it out the paint booth push it in the sun and go balls lmao

Can't understand it really as it wasn't like the peal you add when doing a tri stage paint job it had white mixed in. I.e solids in not transparrent

Looks great when the suns not directly on it but goes.......well what ever it wants to really lol so the important lesson here kids was put white base on after primer.

Can you tell me mate is it in 3 stages,eg base then pearl then clear,or does the pearl go on with the clear?

99% of the pearls I have painted have been a straight up pearl base coat, with the only exception being house of kolor custom stuff, you may need to use a ground coat under some pearls but that's about it. Need any advice painting wise just give us a shout.

Thats what I mean I've done loads of Metallic jobs but never a pearl one, so I did my campus peal white but never did a ground coat of white so the beige primer shows through in certain lights not from a didn't put enough have coat on but from a traslusiant point of view. Looks cool though a " one off" lol

I would be inclined to go white basecoat, pearl and then clear coat.
