bugger me with a pineapple
after all those years of being a speeding virgin i finally
got taken by a speed camera on the m4
i think doing something like 70-75mph
on a 50mph zone due to road works on the road .
any ideas what sort of penalty am i likely to face ?
like mentioned this never happened before so not sure

70-75 in a 50 on the motorway will be a fixed penalty mate, 3 points and £60 fine.
You can contest it in court if you want, there has been a lot of ways suggested to get off with been caught by a speed camera. tbh not many work, if you contest it, and they've got photographic evidance to prove it was you then they'll shaft you!
Best to take the 3 points, insurance dont even bother about the first 3 points so your not losing owt other than the £60 fixed penalty.
You might even get away with it, if the brown envelope doesn't turn up on your doormat in the next 10 days you'll be fine.
Best case is £60 and 3 points.... Worst case.... well more points and a bigger fine.

A rule of thumb i have been told is 100mph or double the speed limit is an automatic ban?

under normal circumstances, ie when it's 70mph limit, anything over 100mph is usually a ban. (i say usually 'cos i got 6 points and £265 for doing 116)
I think when it's down to 50mph, over 80mph is a ban, but ive just found this that says different, they rekon 75+ is a ban-

dunno if that applies to motorway speed restrictions thou, or if its just for full time 50mph zones.
it used to be that, but they reduced it a few years ago to get more 30 and 40mph zone speeders off the roads, a good move imo
That makes more sense to be honest, 60mph in a 30 is a bit excessive!
On built up roads - 30/40mph limits etc if you do double it's a ban but all depends on how your driving I suppose. If your over 10mph over i think they can give 6+ points.
I'm pretty sure they can punish you however they like though
well i got followed for 10mins by an officer at night so didn't know. Was in a 60, doin 60 all the time, did 70 for about a second and he pulled me over wanting to give me points and a fine...let me off in the end though
we had a problem this way when they were working on the a11, had mobile camera vans parked up catching people speeding and issueing automatic fines and 3 points but turned out they had to refund and remove points as it was a temperory speed limit which ment they could only inforce a fine and no points, the vans we're also deemed to be illegally parked so they shouldn't have been operating in the first place.
as far as i'm aware it's an automatic ban when traveling at over twice the speed limit or 96 mph on a unrestricted road
Is there not some sort of time limit clause on this like 6 months or something? So for example when you get the ticket wait for as long as you can before replying and then say you was not driving but your mrs was. She will then get the ticket and you wait for as long as you can to say sorry I had a mistake It was me driving. You will then get the ticket again. You again wait as long as possible before replying asking to see proof of a valid calibration cert. All of this takes time so if it take long enough you will get off it. Im sure some people on here have done this and got away with it...

i got £280 fine and 6 points doin 82 in a 50 dual carrigeway at midnight august bank holiday in works van.
I was done last year doing 92 in a 60 at around 2am.
I was summonsed and ended up with 3points and £100, which i was very surprised at, thought it would have been a lot more than that,
75 in a 40, 6 points, £220 fine...
what sort of van was it? most people aren't aware that unless it's a car derived van, i.e escort van, you're governed by the commercial speed limit even if a tacho isn't fitted. 6 points because you recieved 3 for breaking the commercial speed limit of 60 on a dual carrigeway and 3 for breaking the unrestricted speed limit which was 50
2 main ones,
few years ago 35 in a 30, 3pts n £60 fine or pay £75 and do speed awareness cousre, paid the £75 but couldn't get to the course on the day, no further action.
bout 18mths ago, empty dual carrige way, 121 in a 60, both ways, 56day ban and £100 fine.
strangley i've not driven the 5 for over a year, and only been pulled over once, for 45 in a 30, country roads
oh and regards advice, don't speed. . but if ya do, have a subtle car, keep ya eyes peeled n don't get caught lol

49 in a 30 = 3points and a £60 fine. someone told me not to put my d.o.b. on the form when i returned it, so that they couldnt process it, it doesnt work. Take the fine and points
Been driving 24 years got done last year doing 32 in a 30 got 3points and £60 fine.
what a kick in the nutsand now with this new points and speeding system we could see alot less 5's on the road

yea its an iveco daily, the policeman said he prob wouldnt of bothered if i was doin 60-65 but he said 82 was a bit excessive.

im hoping there wont be a ticket popping through the door after driving most of the way through an average speed section on the m74 @70+ before i even noticed i was in it
the last few weeks drivng the 5 again, i can quickly see how easy it could be to start rattleing up the points hitting the limiter in 5th on some stretches is a sure way of that happning

if you have not received anything withing 14 days of the alleged speeding your fine. I remember a high court battle with a speeding footballer and he received the letter on the 15th day and as soon as that was said that the whole case was dropped and he walked out of court with nothing.
suppose uve got a pointit was 6 am on a sunday morning though if that helps any
