Before you change the cables first try cleaning up all the connectors on the cable ends and make sure they are a good tight fit as they are often get loose or corroded causing intermittent problems

It will more than likely be the wiring, the connector near the passenger side strut turret that joins the speedo wiring to the box is usually to blame.

loose connection behind clocks? take the clocks out and give all the connections a clean.

top tip for dash problems if all connectors are tight and you've soldered the strut connectors

a fine scotchbrite pad will clean all copper tracks nicely and safely

Re: speedo has mind of its own

you need to chop out that connector on the inside of passenger side in the bay,and just for now twist the wires together, check the whole length of that cable an see if it has cuts, burn marks or any suspect parts if so cut an rejoin it.

also check the probe goes all way in to the gearbox, maybe take it out and clean it.

if like you said you have tried another set of clocks and it still does not work after doing the above then suspect the sensor.

just source a donor one....thats what i would do.

Re: speedo has mind of its own

    My speedo packed up today.
It has been jumping around a bit for a while. I checked the speedo cable and it looks very brittle.
How easy are these to replace?

Where does it go into the gearbox? And how easy is it to get to? I want to swap out the entire cable for a new one.
