brake feel

just a quick one, now got the 325mm hi-specs on my car and pedal feel is worse than ever, we pressure bled the brakes and manually bled them but pedal still pretty much goes to the floor, the capacity of the new calipers is that same as the old ones so i dont think its a master cyl fault, and master cyl is recent too.

what i have noticed, is that when the car is sitting on the floor, when you pump the brakes you can hear the load valve knocking, as if its taking up the slack..... silly question but should it knock?

How have you got your pipes connected to the M/C, try a fwd to aft split instead of diagonal

Also, i found that i needed a slightly bigger M/C for the Hi Specs, you need a bigger leg but once they are hot you get much better feel when braking on the limit (cadence). The 19mm master cylinder may have given up, i foobard two in 3 months when i drained the fluid in the system, the seals are really finiky.

First off i would change the M/C and split front and back...

any idea what master cylinders are a direct, but larger replacement for the GTT?

Don't you have to do something with the rear bias valve when bleeding the system, has to be open or closed doesn't it ?

20.64mm as opposed to 18.... whether it will fit is another matter i guess

I don't no but do no there is a 23mm one I don't no what the part number is or what it's off but is the same as the Renault 5 Gt turbo

you have to push and hold the compensator lever all the way to the front of the car when bleeding

Pug 406 is 24mm and fits, perhaps too big though for the road as you will have poor brakes (or a big leg) until you get some heat into the pads...

21mm master cylinder available through mike phase 1 (i think he can still get them)... probably the best option mate

right, got a new comp valve to put on, and a 23mm master cyl off a golf rallye, reason being it was in stock, and the normal golf one crossed over to the renault 19, which crosses to the r5... the rallye one is an upgrade to the 8v mk2 golf so in theory it should all fit.... i'll report back this eve!

kept the standard split purely because i didn't want to risk breaking the brake pipes from the master

we did it on the 5 with engine in the car, wasn't too bad (well my bro did it whilst i was doing the load valve)

hard to tell any difference, the brakes are now superb, but the 'feel' is so much better, rather than a long travel its nice and short and sharp like a new car

I might aswell change it whilst it is out then, will take a silly amount of time really and seems worth while. I think I am going to need all the brakes I can get when its finally sees its full potential the engine
