    Harlow Motorsport Cup car

One of the original Harlow Motorsport cars was dropped off at the workshop today!

It is Roland Bratts car. Its not the original shell, but very original, 10,000 miles on the clock. Some *******s have stolen a few bits off it, but nothing replaceable. Bent the door back though. It is otherwise VERY straight - not a sign of previous repairs.
    Still owned by Harlow Group.

Its in for a refurb, not sure on the extent. But it is wanted running and usable.

    I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

    Nice

Shame it's not still in it's 'full clothes', as it was in the series. Still, it'll always be a good colour scheme!

5 Coupe's? Which ones have you got? I'm guessing this one, your one, Eugein's one.....

    Mine,
    Eugein's

The mint red one (blew the engine )
A mint white one (Paul Lomax) - And his old written-off one.

    Re: Harlow Motorsport Cup car

Len Simmons from Harlow group dropped in today to see how the car is going.
The good news is he wants it looking as it was, and out racing again next year - Not just track days, but racing
His son Adam Simmons (Raced the GT Turbo's and Clio 16v cup cars, then Porsche Cup and others) is going to be driving it, so it should be fast.
In standard cup spec with a front running driver these cars where lapping Brands Indy circuit in 56 seconds (on slicks though) - compare that to the timesheets of other championships

Len said he is also a member on here, so maybe he will add something.

I'll get some pictures when there is something to show you.

Great work Sam, will be great to see another 5 back out and racing properly... Never realised that the cups were that quick in original trim... We run 56's round brands Indy in mine and Daves although that's on r888s and a damp track. Id hope on a sunny day low 55s would be very possible and on slicks maybe another second off if not more..

    Re: Harlow Motorsport Cup car

I told him about your cars and championship. Hopefully he will join you.
I have been watching lots of Dave's videos lately, have you got any?
Your cars must be rapid. Daves seems balistic off the line.

Yeah, they where surprisingly fast in cup form on slicks. They where getting alot money spent on them though - I heard of a few clutchless gearchanges, and the like. Committed stuff.

I really need to go through the old video's and get some on-board footage uploaded from VHS.

If I could own any Renault 5 in the world, it would have to be this one, second to owning my Dads of course.

Here is a picture of my Dads looking exactly the same (after a smash I guess) and taken in the same yard...

And then one of both of them on track. My Dad likes this one as he is in front of the other team car ...And behind is Jim Edward Jnr who went on to win the 2000 Clio cup in the Mark Fish team.... and behind him is the Radbourne car - probably your exact one Matty

    Silverstone?

    Re: Harlow Motorsport Cup car

Awesome pics there Sam . Do you happen to know what happened to your dad's old car?

There were three of the Radbourne cars painted in that livery. I remember there being a photo of the 3 together on the old site. I think it might have been uploaded by Lomo. The drivers (in 1990 at least) were Rowan Atkinson, and Dave Cox, but I can't remember the 3rd off the top of my head. I'd have to watch the dvd, as I know it's on there.

    Thanks guys.
Thanks Matty, I'll bear that in mind

Oh yeah..... there where a few Radbourne ones wherent there....

How about this for some History:
....this is the final results sheet from the race above I believe. I think the Radbourne car behind is Paul Taft (He instructed one of the Mini Race in the team last year!), and Micky Allen behind - not Jim. Jim is in the Black car behind that, with SMC on the front
Bill, I think you are right, it is 1990, and now 99% sure that is Donnington first coner!

Results sheet shows a win too!

And one of the Truck - it would have been one of the biggest in the paddock back then - how things have changed!

Harlow Group where sponsoring my dad at the time, while he did his own prep work. Although information was obviously shared both ways.
In the 90's they became rivals

It's great to see the results sheet Sam. I've got the highlights of that race on dvd, as part of the season review. I haven't watched it for ages - I'll have to dig it out I think

Ah cool! We have the VHS's somewhere - hope they haven't decayed! I haven't seen the m since I was 10'ish.

All change in '91 in the Clio's. Dad now with his own branded team, being chased by Harlow's Steve Waudby (Running UK Sadev now, and pops round sometimes)

In '92 and '93 Harlow group where investing serious money in the engines to develop every possible advantage - they became the engines to have - Renault noticed the team and let them run the Renault 19 touring cars after

The presence of 3 children and running other people's cars took its toll and my Dad didn't achieve the same results in the Clio's by '93.

Here is the pink one after an outing in front of Harlows now-bigger truck:

That FISHY numberplate is now on my race car

Oh, and while I am on an upload binge, here is another photo from that Donnington meeting above... the winners parade, along with the Micheline 'Man' or Boy?
    From Autosport, Dated 26.04.1990

And another showing off the lovely Harlow Group livery, surely the best on a Gt Turbo

    Lively livery

Is that a 1.26 fastest lap around Donington I can see on that print out? Awesome.

IIRC I saw a spec'd 2006 M3 (that lightweight version) being driven expertly a few years back at a track day there and it was only doing 1.24s!

IIRC I saw a spec'd 2006 M3 (that lightweight version) being driven expertly a few years back at a track day there and it was only doing 1.24s!
Yeah, that's a 1:26.8. I wish I could be taken for a passenger lap at those speeds in a Gt turbo, I imagine it is 'dramatic'.
My dad always said that a quickly driven GT Turbo on slicks would usually be the quickest car on a trackday.
I bet it would be all over that M3 in the corners too!

Steve Waudby who raced the car Harlow car above said that he much preferred racing the GT turbo to the Clio 16v - even though I think he won the Clio championship..
He came round to borrow the trailer a few months ago, not realising his old car was here. He walked round the corner and was pretty shocked/happy to see it sat there!
