I have emailed them about a possible group buy if there is enough interest.
I also asked are the bra's created in house or are they out sourced. See what reply I get first.

They don't cover the grille. Just the bonnet in most cases. I suppose if your grille was built into the bonnet, it would have slits cut into it, or something else.

so if it doesnt cover the grill then whats the point in having it, as the bonnet hangs down by a few inches on the 5 compared to the beetle.

Dunno mate.. To stop the bonnet getting stone chips? I think it would be more for looks on a 5 tbh, because the bumper and grille would still get stonechips / bugs over them

Aha.. Nice. I could imagine it's fun when you try to open the bonnet.. Or is it multiple pieces and split around the bonnet? That would be the logical thing

a bonnet bra has nothing to do with thongs or the cali look.....its to STOP stone chips!...you donnot cover the rad with it...why would you want to?...i would recommend you buy the proper item which will not cover the rad, you can also buy body wrap, which is like a celophane...if you use a bra to stop stone chips, please take it off when you stop, they look proper sh*t

as on that evo! thats what id like im sure they can/are made with gaps/vents to aid air flow. and as for opening the bonnet..is it really hard to pull the bra off or with the 5 id think it would slip off once the bonnet is opened.

i think they look gash, the cliosport boys all have them and many other car clubs seem to bum them.. im all for looking after my car but i've never had a stone chip and dont really worry about it.. there for "pub talk" in most cases..

having your bonnet painted isnt going to break the bank £100-150, so at £300 for the bra i'd rather not look a p3nis.. that said my 5's black and i could get away with one

you could make one yourself easy enough, get some leather type material, bit of that thin foam padding, fold the edges over and stitch in some of them strip magnets like on wing covers.. i think with some effort you could do a good job of one

    Re: bonnet bra's

This is always an emotive subject.

People who worry about originality worry about chips so if there is anything that can be done which prevents these as far as possible (nothing will stop a stone travelling at 100 mph but may reduce the damage) that is good.

After trying several of the bras and acrylic shields and really finding that unless they are securely attached then there is the risk of more damage than is prevented Iin recent years I have used the protection film. This is easilly applied with warm weather and patience and removed without causing any damage simply using water.

Obviously if it is simply the look of a black nose then this may not be appropriate (althoigh I am sure it is possible to buy coloured sticky back plastic ) but if protection is what you are after then I would thoroughly recommend it - there are many manufacturers and it can be obtained in universal form in Halfords (foliatec rings a bell).

Protection includes the headlights (better than the protectors that need removing for cleaning all of the time and often break on removal even given the most carely attempt) and any painted surface. There is talk of windscreen protection too although I have not been able to get this so far.

Although the protection offerred is not absolute it prevents all but the fastest largest rock chips ! Any area of the car that is paited can be protected - it can also be washed and waxed without issue.

i was speaking to a guy who worked for GSF coventry and was into beetles a few years ago about these, and he mentioned a company makes them bespoke in this country to fit most cars.
they are held onto the bonnet with magnets.

something else to worry about to would be dirt an
crap getting underneath the bra, could do more damage
than good, who wants to keep removing it everytime you
wash the car,but takes yer choice i guess,i think they look
    ok on the right car

i think a few folks are missing the point. these arent for looks! so who cares what they look like as long as they do the job. if you are bothered about looks, you wouldnt buy one would you.
and as for removing them...i dont think pulling the magnets off the car would break your back and take no longer than 2mins max.

the bra is not a permanant fix, personally i dont care about stone chips, but if you do go for a bra, i think contessa`s got a sale on....i would use it for long journeys i.e motorways etc, then remove when i hit my destination...if your not bothered what your motor looks like and as long as it goes...i ask you mr raj?...why do you want a bra?...i would only recommend these for concourse cars

    Re: bonnet bra's

Prices of the protection film start from ~£130 for a small car (modern Ford Fiesta). This is a cut to fit full set. It is not expecially cheap expecially if you add about the same again to have it fitted.

The PVC padded bra's cost around the same but in my experience are fitted with more than a few magnet's - usually elastic straps with plastic hooks etc. It is easy enough for the DIYer to do however so no fitting charge.

Acrylic bras in (personal experience only with the X3 and X5 OEM bra of this type) is that it is difficult to fit and usually only covers the front 3 inches of the bonnet. I am not aware of any such thing for a Renault 5 and even if available would be dubious to try and fit.

Remember that anything that is expected to stay in place needs to be firmly fitted - flapping causes damage (light surface scrathes to start with) after only a few hours on the motorway. If they get wet (the soft underside gets soaked very quickly in a shower) the situation is made worse mainly because of the increase in weight but also because of the tenency for dirt to stick to the underside of the bra.

Conversly the paint protection film stays on if applied correctly and although a line is visible it is faint and would usually need to be pointed out to be seen. Of course This can be eliminated by coverring the entire bonnet - but expect a higher price and more tricky fitting.

The clear film fitted well never gets dirty underneath and is washed as if it wasn't there. It can be waxed too but if any abrasion is used it can scratch.

My vote from experience is to use the film

yes steven, the film is sounding like a better idea and is probably the best option for the 5 as i cant see anyone making the bras.

Raj and other the boys interested!
Recieved this email today after contacting them last night.

    Hi mike

Yes we can do the bonnet versions for this car so I understand, we normally do a group buy of 10 + and for that amount do them for £50 inc vat and del (normally £71.10)

Let me know and I will find out for sure

    tom

Prices sound good! so who would be defo interested?

I would also be very interested in any group buy as i dont really want to be painting my bonnet again to rid of the stone chips, yes the grille and bumper also take chips etc but at least it would be one less to prep and paint

i'm guessing we wouldnt be able to see some prototype or get one made up to fit and see what it looks like?

Well not too sure what the plan is, as he didnt reply to my question
'are the bra's made in house or out sourced?'
I presume they created in house, and if that is the case maybe a local member to them could pop down for a morning? or send them a bonnet? (sort that nearer the time)

Just need an idea of numbers before I can proceed.

    Interest so far.
