    Barn find

I know really everything has a different price , but need some sort of an idea really.

I have found an e reg pearl white standard phase 2 renault 5 gt turbo this car has been stood since 1999 ,standard exhaust ,engine etc , covered in green moss sills are in very good cond , and car is in very good cond imo.

door needs some attention and the engine idles bad the owner says.

So what price should i offer but not insulting the chap??

    thanks guys

I would go in at say £200 and will prob give him max of £400 but that's me

bad idle could be simple new dizzy cap and rotor arm, leads and sparkies and maybe some decent fuel as bet it has old fuel in it aswell, and general service really.

No mot, no tax, don;t know condition of paint under the mould

All the bushes gaiters and anything rubber will no doubt need changing being stood for that long.

. Rubber perishes over time so a full set of hoses may need replacing. Probably new radiator and all service ancilliaries. Calipers will most definately require replacing. Plus you need to look under carpet and also peer at inner sills through inspection covers. Could be rotting from inside to out. Wheel bearings will require replacing, etc etc.

    List could be huge.

    £200-250 tops.

    Re: Barn find

If you can get it for £200 - £250 your laughing really, if you look at it another way, how much could it be broken for to make your money quickily with the larger items sold off fast. Plus making you some money in the process.

I went to look at the one on eBay which was local to me, I gave him an offer but nowhere near what simplyautomotive offered and he hadn't even seen the car. Not sure if it was sold to him in the end though as auction got ended. Thing was I couldn't even see if I sold off all the items to make that sort of money, even with my offer it was going to be trying to sell some of the smaller items which is more hassle than its worth. But for any running car doesn't matter on condition or age they seem to sell on for £600-700 on eBay because when breaking them you can make that sort of money within reason if its not all falling apart. To even take the risk with that sort of unknown more than likely around the £400 mark might be less insulting to the person but if he knows nothing about them or done no research then head straight in for the £250 mark and you could be laughing when you hand the cash over.

If the shells in good nick its got to be worth £500 these days, just slip them a cheeky low offer for it though.

Might not need all that much work to get it back on the road really, probably no more than the average gt turbo needs these days anyway!

    Re: Barn find

As I said in my last post, £450-£500 sounds about right to a car with no tax/MOT, and like you say the car is in very good condition. a bit of cleaning and getting the car started changes the value of the car from the £450 to £900 mark easily if in standard condition with MOT. and will only improve from there. Everyone is after standard cars now which is great for those who have them as the value is only going up

Take £450 cash... put £350 in his hand and say its your's.... give me the keys & log book... bet he will take it... maybe offer another £50 or your walking away....

If he says no... Say if you break it you will sell £400 max over a long period of time, be left with parts left over ... Say you have my number, call me if you change your mind... I bet he does within 24 hours...

    Moi, I wouldn't break a 5

Only reason I did was because it was like this:

    https://www.rtoc.org/boards/album.php...pictureid=3903

But most places of the car and it was those rare Raiders as well

That dont sound too good really. The one I just picked up was for £400 and got rust on the sills and by the petrol cap and paint has gone pink but all panels are good though apart from front of bonnet going. Not sure on engine yet though due to a nice lot of spiders. interior is in good condition though which is a good thing

Yeah around 200-300 after those things are wrong as if you were even thinking of putting it on the road just replacing some of those items will soon add up plus finding some the right colour which you will have no luck and not much with matching it up easily without a full respray.

Absolute nonsense - there is very little REAL info to be found from these photos, but what I will say is that it looks like it's quite close to oe, so is absolutely worth restoring. Go for it my friend and do the club proud.

You lot want to calm down and drink some milk. In that state from a buyers point of view it looks cack from what i see, yeah sure strip it down, clean it up and it'll look top dollar.

I'd only offer double the scrap value too potentially get a good price, Youd make money on breaking it, but if you got the patience and some extra dosh in your wallet then fix up look sharp as the saying goes

jezz to know how some of these cars end up in the end not good.id jack up the car check underneath 1st see how all of that is its either a hit or a miss??of thats ok then your shell okish.
next thing is,how is it once it drives as you know with all these 5s if any problems and not sorted out................as for cost of doing up the car .........??well thats realey up to you in how far you wanna go?for example

new cappilers front (£60 each)£120 pair
    rears (£74 each)say £150 pair
brake fluid and pads say £40
    2 hand brake cables £30

thats just the brakes like,so the list can be endless but if you havethe time and money to spend on it then all good

A pictures say a thousand words - that's absolutely buggered! You can rust all over the place and that's before you start actually looking for it.....

If you take the arches and side skirts off both sills will be knackered. Inner and outer. The windscreen scuttle needs replacing, doors/boot and probably it'll need various plates in the wheel arches and floor pan. Obviously fixable though.

I'd say £350 max if I was looking at it.....
