I'm afraid you're limited to 3 or 4 manufacturers for something as specialist as that

As Andrew says your very limited with who to use, two that immediately spring to mind are ATB and Gripper but your easily looking over £1000 by the time you factor in rebuild, oils etc...

I am fairly sure QDF6M fits all the JBx boxes m8. It is a good piece of kit

    Re: LSD??

Hmm im yet to have a play with the ATB diff, i prefer the old slipper plates as your able to build or change your LSD to suit conditions of the track, wet or dry.. Gripper can supply alot of parts cheap for the older style plate dif, eg different ramp angles if you find it snatches to much, either if its a gearing down for a corner issue or powering out, also different plates to change the lb rating.. With a gripper you can build your own diff to suit you and swapping the diff to suit the conditions on the day which could save you up to half a second a lap, and thats an awsome gain.. Just my 2p.. but i have no track experience with front wheel drive cars, just rear...

    Re: LSD??

If you want to put a diff in a jb box and leave it alone use a quaife atb (auto torque bias, which is not a locking diff).
We use gripper diffs in the yellow and pink race cars, but use shorter n/s driveshafts due to the centre packs in the gripper which is a full locking diff, these can be quite harsh if set up with aggressive ramps and clutch plates.
Believe me, there are easier gearboxes to rebuild than the jb/c gearboxes!!! So a medium angle is a good compromise.
We at codered have a trick modified diff to go in Barney Davies R5 ( brother of Oli Davies with the pink race car). So watch out for some codered special stuff soon....

    Re: LSD??

i have the quaiffe in my daily and in the cup car and i must say its an excellent bit of kit, ive yet to test it on slicks but i must say even in torentual rain at mallory on r888`s it was amazing, i also have a gripper , of which i may install into the other cup {with the help of code red...}, i dont have any experience of this but im told even by tom at gripper that they can be as matt5 says high maintenance as uppose to the quaiffe....., a great asset though if its for a track/race used car no doubt!

    Re: LSD??

did anyone have any luck with the 'phantom gripper' or whatever it was called, the bit that went in the diff making it limited slip, or something close

i'm debating puttin a standard gearbox back in as i've got a r11 one in with closer ratios but it spins up in 5th. only concern is that i've had 4 previous gtt boxes all lasting 3 months or so and the 11 box has lasted 4 years, all my pod runs and a snetterton track day

I was still lighting both wheels in the wet in 1,2 and 3 but if you feed the power in gently at the apex the atb did its thing and was great, although a gripper may have been slightly better for race use i didnt want the hassle of rebuilding the box every few races...

It's sitting in the workshop next to Barneys gearbox, if it works like it should I'll run one.
