Looks really good mate, my mate had a well tuned b16a vtec in a crx, my god for a n/a car it went like stink, just had a v tec timer, exhaust, filter but great power.
so with a turbo like yours must be a real flyer, great work and finished to a good standard..

    UPDATE

Ok we pretty much ready for Pod rtoc day now. Had a few issues with wrongly sent wastegate springs the other week but we sorted now and back to safe boost levels for the time being. We have managed to map the car up to 22psi and feels good, we keeping revs a tad low so limit is at 7.5k for now and also a tiny bit rich at the top to be safe. We may make a few adjustments on day..... Be good to see what this runs

Re: The New Backyard D16 Project

    Results from first outing.

Firstly im Chuffed to bits with the car, we coved 34 runs in total over the two days with no fails... apart from the kung fui turbo..

Ok started of with 12.2@116mph for our first run of the day. Managed to improve down to a 11.2@124mph on that day mapping each run..

Day two, started the day of alot more agressive with some great 2nd gear burnouts with a good result of pulling a few 1.6 60fts with a 1.68 being the best from the line with stock chasis and suspension...( Top work deano for his first run on big tyres ).... We improved our map slightly more and our best on the day was 11.2@126mph with a 1.7 60ft with the carry pulling 100mph now at the 1/8... we carred on with slightly more turning and smelt a 10second with a cross of 11.16 ET but the good dame boost hose blow and rolled over at 114mph ...

The turbo is pretty much dead... but we have some ideas now in pipe line, also i think our days of mappng on the road are short as the car is So more results to come soon........

Thanks to everyone to organise the weekend Top day....

Thats awesome mate, really impressive times and speeds there. Shame that boost hose popped off, looks like that may of dipped into the 10's if held up.

That was CPL racing with that civic, thats got the record for the FWD, also holds the record for fastest europe time without pizza cutters (wheeli bars) i think????. he was testing a new box out so taking it easier but on a second run his head gasket failed due to head lift he says...

soldier indeed, thats probably the thing that impressed us the most, we did 37 runs in the car over the 2 days, and on 1 run we ran out of fuel and went really lean (we datalog each run) and still the motor held up fine, and with the amount of timing we were running, i couldnt believe we didnt damage it when i looked over the log. gearbox and shafts also really strong, full throttle shifts and 1.6 60ft`s didnt phase it 1 bit, no funny noises, nothing

I saw that car run yesterday, the K20 lump i'm guessing. It did 136mph across the line from what I remember.

Was chatting to the guys on the TDI stand at the autosport show about the CPL and TDI north Honda's and they were talking about 2.4l, 800+bhp and wheelspin halfway down the strip. I'm not that up on the later K engines but what I have seen (a worked head) was pure sex.

I should also add well done, proper quick, regardless of the outlay

i hate to say it as my bro is really smarmy when it comes to hondas but i think he has a point! he has a b16 vti and it goes like a rocket, the fact that the car has never had any fault during the 3yrs hes had it beyond me as he absolutely gives the engine a raping!!

he's going to be doing something big with it pretty soon, possibly a k20 turbo. he thought about a 3.5L v6 (honda legend)Turbo conversion but i swayed him off that as i convinced him it would be sh1te around a track and general ragging around.

im more interested in the d16'T after seeing robs efforts and i can only assume its alot cheaper than the route my bro is going to be taking.

Don't short change another car's reliability & spend the day fixing it rather than punting it down the track! (Nurburgring 200SX & Pod 2009 R5GTT)

As far as i know Rob & the rest of the guys at BYR put this civic together on a budget even approved by the Endor elders!!

If you're gonna do it E to the wok do it right first time matey!

the stock rods are rather thin, and there are lots of people snapped them, so unlike old wives tales about "blah blah rods only good for xxxhp bull" these rods do actually snap, hence we fitted forged ones to start with, would mind to much killing a rod, but if you then have to skip the block, head, turbo, pistons, its just not worth messing about. the forged rods are $289 = £176. per set. cheap enough for you

    JUNE 12TH...

The New turbo is now here.....

Should start making some progress this next week as we have had a break from the car since pod. We going to run the car on a dyno as it stands now before we get stuck in fitting the new unit and also swapping a few small things then get back out and re map..

Re: The New Backyard D16 Project

    JUNE 16TH

Firstly a HUGE THANKS to Eddie at F1 in Bolton for giving us free and unlimited dyno time to help us build our project.......

Well we just had a few hours play on the dyno with the car, map and setup as it ran at pod also we wanted to try some things out aswell.. We took the car so we can see what torq the car has and where peak power is etc just to give us an idea rather than fact base numbers before we get stuck in on the turbo swap.. Will try get graphs later... peak power was around 6100 and peak power 439bhp fly... Been good as tonight we worked out a few small issues we had..

Also another thanks to Eddie for spending is own time to show us around his gear to use and also showing great interest in our car..... Top guy....

Rob you lucky little boy :P

Good initial results - going to be an animal!

Think even with my uprated clutch and track tyres it will be close next time I have sorted my overboost issue which was holding 3psi back at times. Will be happy to get into the 10's even if its 10.9999999999999999 track / fast road car so will never really push to hard (pax seat, stereo out lol)

Hope to see you beating me again next year

439bhp is by no means shameful thats a bloody good figure considering what output the original engine produced lol.

im still really considering doing this conversion..but would like to know the cost of all conversion parts etc

Well back to 23.8psi boost and track tyres do grip well once hot (not an issue on RTOC event) so really hope to give you boys something to work for

If all else fails I will challenge you to a cornering contest lol

wait till you see the graph, its more of a spike than a graph lol, its pretty poor.

we made peak hp at 6100-6300, and by 7500 we was down to 300hp!

we was changing gear at pod at 8k prob making 250hp by then lol.

so we would of gone a lot quicker by simply changing sooner, as we was only crossing the line at 7100ish where we still had "reasonable" power. but spent way too long in the lower gears well out of peak hp.

Re: The New Backyard D16 Project

    Update 12th July

Ok so last week we final managed to get the car out with the new turbo and mapped just in time for pod this weekend. We started the weekend with a 117mph trap and finished in style !!! our first fail after 63 runs at the pod.. Either the head gasket has gone or head lifted or worst case cracked sleeve, will strip down this week to see. Our final traps of the weekend was 132mph close to 133 i think.. our 330s are down by .1 as expected due to turbo, We did manage our best 60ft of 1.66 which was is good to see and gives us good hope with the unit we have once we dail in LC.

Our BEST ET was set today 10.95 @ 130mph but only with a 1.75 60ft and 4.808 330ft but we cracked the 10s finaly only just tho

Also i took my GT down today and was in the show and shine. Its the cars first big trip and i loved every minute of driving it ...

Good to meet some new peeps and all the FWD HKS lot.. had a really good chat with these lot as we will be seeing alot more of them in time to come as some of you on here may know our future with this car...
