    insuring the r5

    Ok, here is the deal.

I currently insure my 306 1.9 td, 4 years no claims, 22 years old through admiral for £363

I now require to insure my r5 as a second car. garaged up , alarmed yada yada, barely 1000miles a year..

Most classic companys wont insure me as im under 25, adrian flux offered to insure it at £564 with £350 excess, and admiral offered to add it to my current policy for £672.

Ive contemplated getting the mother to insure it and putting me on as a additional driver.

    Any thoughts on it?,

    Try Footman James?!

I know for some (like me!) they've been excellent! and yet for others no joy, but must be worth a punt!

hate to bring this up but that is illegal and if you do have a prang you will get bent over!!and they will just chuck your claim out!
i did it for years until my girlfriend got a job in insurance and saw how many hundreds of people they catch every week!!

if your mum is not the main driver and you are then thats illegal who ever is the main driver has to be the main driver. if its proved your mum is not then insurance is invalid serious cash from your pocket points ect.

not sure how they prove your not the main driver though.

it not illegal to be a named driver!
unless your using the vehicle as a main driver but claiming to only be a named driver.
    its called "fronting" apparently!
i have no idea how they'd prove it tho??

for example, you would have to change owners over to your mum rather than you to make it even begin to be plausable.

I had to give my mum a lift to work due to her car not starting, nice and gentle 30mph all the way for 10miles. She loves little French cars

Do this day she still thinks it's the deathtrap from hell

If her names on the logbook there is no probs, the insurance company has no right to go accusing who is the owner.

If you have an accident you were only using it for a one off, right?

Hey mate. I recently changed over to Adrian Flux, 10 years no claims 35 years old and performance direct wanted 600 quid third party fire and theft. Switched to flux, 5k year limited milage, no claims protected, fully comp, courtesy car, break down cover, 71 bucks deposit and 43 and month for 9 months, way less than a 500 quid, very happy with em tbh. They are worth a shot if you aint driving it alot, limited 3k or so would be worth looking into, gl mate
