    ph1 vs ph2 shocks

im annoyed at the fact i cant get to the adjustment nipples on my ph2 koni shocks due to the fact the the ph2 top mounts are offset which postions the top of the shock under the suspension turret .

i was going to chop abit of the turret top away for easy adjustment but forgot to do so before i repainted the engine bay

so the question is, is there really a major difference in handling between the ph1 and ph2? there must be some difference or reno wouldnt have changed it, but is it major.?

My van handles fine on ph1 setup with koni yellows. Ive tried both setups on it & have noticed no difference between the two to be fair.

think ill switch to the ph1 set up in the future.

apart from the strut tops, shocks and hubs is there anything else thats different.?
is the bit that sits on top of the spring any different? is it called the top hat or is that the piece the bush sits in?

    Re: ph1 vs ph2 shocks

Im using ph2 hubs with ph1 shockers & top mounts, no problems at all. Had the tracking set/camber checked properly, all spot on, 1.5 deg negative camber with 30mm lowering springs.

I personally don't think there's hardly any difference between ph1 & 2 hubs, if any at all..

im sure i heard that if you fit ph1 shocks to ph2 hubs the wheels sit on the p1ss.? or is it ph2 shocks on ph1 hubs

    hubs are the same.

only the upright's and the top's are different. the different in top mount angle is corrected by the difference in angle of the bolt pattern on the different uprights.

there was me thinking the uprights were the same and it was the bolt position in the damper that was difference, maybe it's a terminology thing, what's a upright Scoff?

riiiight i understand your liverpoolian slang now

seems easy to switch between the 2 setups if its just the shock[upright] and the top hat that needs to be changed.

    Re: ph1 vs ph2 shocks

You can normally just get in there with one of those baby/mini 10mm ring spanners Raj. Or 8mm or whatever it is. And do 1/5th turns. Fiddly but works no probs.

I've got one of those pedal bike spanners and they fit. Come over if you want to borrow it mate Probably cheaper to nip to your local bike shop though

Can't remember if it becomes impossible with a strut brace or not (i.e. you may have to remove the brace each time if you have one).

    Re: ph1 vs ph2 shocks

ill give it a shot, there is a strut brace fitted but it isnt like say the ktec type that goes of the turret hole,so no probs there.

only problem i have is that one of the adustment nuts has come off the shock so the spanner option is a no go for one side, im needing some sort of thin/long tool to grip the little spindle thats left and turn it.
    feck!

Don't change the goal posts! lol.

Yeah sounds like you're fecked on that side then mate. Best bet would be to take that side out and try and fit something back on the top so you can adjust it while it's on the car. Or get a tool catalogue and flick through for some funky nosed pliers??

    Re: ph1 vs ph2 shocks

dont think a replacement will work.

you have the plastic adjuster with the + & - signs on them
then you have a nut under the this that the plastic adjuster slots ontop of.
this nut fits over a thin spindle and the nut is locked onto the spindle and isnt removable.

on my shock one of the actual nuts was damaged to the point that the nut would turn but the spindle would stay in place, so ive removed the nut and am left with the thin spindle only. i cant fit a nut over it as the spindle isnt threaded and was originally locked in place by what looked like a tiny roll pin.

so as mentioned i think its thin plier time will take me forever as i cant even turn it a 1/8 of a turn at once

could someone remind me of which way the firm/soft settings are as ive not got the plastic knobs with the signs on.

    is it-
    clockwise=softer
    anti-clockwise=firmer

    ?
