    GT Turbo with 10,600 miles....

...purchased after seeing on Pistonheads this car has been in storage since 1996 under a dust cover and a duvet.

It is difficult to describe the car's condition apart from to say that it would easilly pass as a new vehicle in a Renault showroom. The tyres are all original and look to have minimum wear front and back. The interior dials look almost too orange and of course the seats and interior look as unused as the outside.

This is the third GT Turbo (E664 EGW and G75 WVU - a Raider - were the other two) that I have owned but is easilly the best.

G801 CVT was bought on the strength of the advert, the helpful garage that drained the fuel (broken down over the years in storage), and the honest owner with whom I spoke but never met.

This is it arriving in Kent from Nottingham last week - delivered virtually to the door by BeamishTransport.

Re: GT Turbo with 10,600 miles....

Thanks for the warm welcome and rapid responses.

I guess by the speed of the replies you are not married, are female (....my wife seems to spend most of her day on Mum's Net !) or use RSS

These cars both live in a garage in bags (CarCoon) for most of the time next to a 'bagged' 1968 Morris Mini Cooper S (50 K from new).

To some this will be irritating (the rarely driven part) but to me limited use is why I can still show my 4 year old who otherwise might never be able to see these fantastic cars - and as they were at the time of the last stock market crumble.

Being an enthusiast I do not like to see cars deteriorate and am fortunate enough to be able to keep them in this way.

It doesn't mean to say that they never come out but instead are treated carefully and driven when the weather is fine and where they can be enjoyed.

Look forward to joining the club properly,

    Steven

Yes I am a member of the MCR and of the RSP Register.

    I own two Mini Coopers.

One is an original Mk2 S and the other a more modern Cooper R(over)S(pecial)P(roduct) in BRG (with extensive work done in ~1994 by Wood and Pickett in Epsom) from 1990 with 27K on the clock - again always garaged.

I guess that the Minis to me are the forerunners to the Gordini (RLE 383W was the registration number of the Gordini I once owned - it is still around), the GD turbo and then of course the GT Turbo - not as fast in some ways but just as much fun.

Well if you've owned either of them for the last 15/20 years then ive probably seen them at the MCR national day at bealieu lol!! Dad had a blaze orange mk3 S. Only sold it about a year ago Still, he hillclimbs a 205 gti now which is arguably a bit more fun

Re: GT Turbo with 10,600 miles....

RLE 383W was the first 'fast' Renault that I owned back in ~1986 when I first started driving. At that time it was 'dressed up' - by a previous owner - as a Turbo with everthing but the wheels (seemed a strange omission!). I bought it from a garage in Streatham in South London for £1500 but owned it for less than a year (@60K when sold). It brought many smiles back at that time - these cars were relatively unusual (XR3's were the norm back then!) and surprisingly fast........I loved it.

It is funny how everything that has gone by looks so rosy years later

I have owned the RSP since 1992. It went to Bealieu in ~1994 but neither have been there since.

The 205 GTi is a superb car (although I have always preferred the Renaults ) - I have owned two - G51 SPP (never seen since) was a mint 10K cherry red 1.9 and much later (2002?), a 1.6 GTi which needed work and in the end I sold rather than persevere with any appreciable restoration.

I guess that all of these cars have problems but at the same time are great fun and relatively easy to work on. I am a fan of them all - just wish that I had more space and a more understanding wife.
