    New Turbo - New Problems

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

    Situation is next...

Brand new T25 turbo, oiled before first start, running at 0.3 bars for first 1000km, dry on intake side and compressor side, no play in shaft but still smokes like crazy like oil seals are gone. Checked turbo drain hose and it is fine. Oil feed pipe is 3.7mm. Could it be that turbo is getting too much oil and it is over-floating seals? I will get new oil inlet 2.5mm and try...

    What do you say?

    Cheers

Ill still say crap turbo build, if its a rebuilt unit. I doubt the c1j can produce enough oil pressure to blow it out of the back seal.

Have you tried your spare turbo yet?

it is more likely that there was still swarf or junk in the oil from the rebuild. I've given up telling people to fit pre-filters to new engine builds, they usually don't listen and fit their brand new turbo anway. I wouldn't dream of putting a new turbo on a fresh built engine.

If it smokes it's because something is worn, or scored usually.

Will try inlet first and hope for the best. If not, turbo needs to go off

Re: New Turbo - New Problems

i fitted a decent turbo to an old engine, and there was some crap inside the engine even after i changed the oil. my turbo didnt last a few hundred miles as there was crap on the bearing. now had the turbo rebuilt , fresh oil again with a pre turbo filter and no problems since. those pre filters are well worth having after a fair bit of reading on them, there expensive for a filter but not a fraction of a turbo rebuild cost.

Re: New Turbo - New Problems

To conclude my problems with brand new turbo...

There was factory fault on central housing (where oil and water connections are). There was gap of 0.020 while maximum tolerance is up to 0.015. Because of that gap the turbo shaft had little more play than it should, so now the shaft is out of tolerance. Good news is that bearing are Ok so I can make a keychain out of it

New turbo needed!!! Offers on PM please

Re: New Turbo - New Problems

good morning sir, i have just bought a replcment turbo unit, my currunt turbo seems to be making a tapping sound near the back of it, near elbow end. i also noticed air blowing out under the join (were turbo meets manifold, square where the 4 bolts go through...i put in a stainless gasket, still aint sorted it, when i press the accelarator pedel the sound goes...when shes back on idle, shes starts tapping again....maybe the manifold, piston, bottom bearing etc...any ideas bud?

First thing to see is the problem with turbo is to check the shaft. Remove air filter and se is there any play up-down and in-out. Tapping noise on idle is often closely related to engine valves and, not so often, to cracked piston. What is frequency of tapping. Does it tap when you rev the car without boost?

2richi: Filter is placed on oil feed pipe just before oil inlet on the turbo.
