    First post!

Just signed up as we've bought a Renault 5 GT Turbo & there are RTOC stickers in the windows, we have few questions including if anyone knew it's history, but as this is the only section I can see the forum seems a bit pointless.

It's clearly me being a scrooge, but to have to pay out £25 to look at a forum before I find it out whether it is useful or not in my opinion is on. I subscribe to many sites covering most of the vehicles we own including being a moderator on one of them, that numbers about 6 which I am active on & probably another 8 which I visit regularly, I have never been forced to pay a membership on any of them, but donate by preference to most.

Anyway my whinging over the car is Silver Grey *** if anyone knows anything about it.

    Re: New Member

Alan, the RTOC could not survive on donations and has ran this way for 13 years to my knowledge. The club spends a lot of money hosting exclusive events that lesser funded clubs could only dream about funding, and so it must be this way unfortunately. Please remember though, £25 buys you club membership and not just the use of a forum, and so access to these events, discount schemes, technical support and a discount in the RTOC shop. Note also that renewals are only £10/year.

The previous incarnation of website did not allow even General Chat forum access, so this section of forum was to try and atleast give new commers a taste of what they could expect. Hopefully you will agree that it isn't a lot to pay for such cool benefits

    Regards, Chris. Webmaster

The £25 doesn't only go for the forum mate, the £25 also pays for the events that the club put on (National Day and Santa Pod are 2).

It's THE best £25 that you will spend on your car, by a country mile!

If I knew back before I joined the club how much I'd learn, how much money I'd save, and most importantly for me, the friends that I'd meet - I'd have no problem at all paying £25. In actual fact, I'll quite happily say that I'd pay 10 times that. And that's me being honest (for a change )

If you're prepared to give a little, you can receive a whole lot more in return

I think this is one of the best car based forums I have been on. Not only have I learnt so much going through the forums, but have also been made to feel very welcome, resulting in feeling confident enough to post a question and not be shot down in flames. To me this is a big plus point, and most members will go out of their way to help someone. Come and join in, and share the love.

Alan, this thread and its comments should by now have convinced you that the sign up fee really is worth every penny. You will truly not regret it, all for the cost of a set of mats!

There are some very knowledgable people who know every nut and bolt of an R5. Priceless info, advice, how to's, local meets, national day, track days, curry nights - the list is endless. You'll more than likely also find out who owned your car.

Just scroll to the bottom of the boards page and see for yourself how many members we have Welcome along

Also registration numbers are removed as owner's may not want the infomation posted on a puplic forum.... We dont know if you are the owner of the car or not...y ou maybe a thief trying to get as much info on a certain car....

But join up and post a picture of your car and i am sure we can try and help you find some info on your car.

Yeah I've been here a few years. I guarentee that the friends i've made and the knowledge and experiences they have shared with me is worth £££££'s loads more than £25.

Good friends, good advice, money saved and made through selling parts.

    RTOC is a bargain.

Not sure of the relevance, I could give you links to other forums with far more memebers, also other with far fewer.

In that case they shouldn't put the information into the public domain or they should take steps to remove it prior to posting, it should not be the job of the Internet Police to do it for them

Fair point I'll give you that one, because technically I am not (the owner, never been a thief fyi), it's my son's.

Well can't post a picture as such as I can't do attachments, but here are a few just taken outside, before camera ran out of memory. If you want proof it's on our drive, then suggest a photo & I'll go take one of the bit you want, assuming it's easy to get to & you don't have to strip down half the car to get to it.

As you can see it's had a small coming together with a fence & taken out the headlight, indicator along with the front bumper, but all minor & no damage to the metalwork that we can see.

Lol, I'm sure the man can make his own decision as to whether he'd like to pay to join or not.

I don't need to restate the benefits as it's already been gone over a million times above but if your son is interested in joining, the renewal fee is £10 every year after the first. We also have special agreements and discounts with Renault specialist and parts companies which I'm sure he could put to good use (firstly to buy a new bumper, hehe). However, if you decide not to join many of the forums and all the discounts will be locked.

I see your photobucket name mentions GXR, do you have a bike too?

ps - There's plenty of self-confessed grumpy people on the forum, sure they'll be along soon to moan about something else

Any questions, just shout myself or one of the other mods.

    Alan,

You have a very simple choice, pay £25 a year to have full access to the club (get alot more help, discounts etc etc)

Or not.... and pay stupid amount of money on parts (often wasted) & struggle to keep your 20 year old car on the road... As a full club member your more likely to get help from local member's... often donating parts of beer tokens etc. Your son can attend meets & club events and feel a part of the club.

The general chat forum is just that.. for general. Now as for Mod's not doing there job we know that the comment your upset about was abit banter... :ho:.

But as an act of goodwill i will edit the post & remove all picture's from the thread aswell.

    Alan...
p.s. Just a trivial point in the initial PM it asks you to Introduce yourself in the Say Hello forum which as a new member you don't have access to.

Shame, you seemed a really nice person, i genuinly thought you would be a credit to the club..

I'm glad I paid the £25 as I have saved £000's by doing engine swaps/head gaskets myself. Also as mentioned the "free"and "cheap" bits from local members for beer tokens along with advice and help is priceless. I got my car lowered all round for a bag of chips! (cheers Spooky). We all get the banter and just take it with a pinch of salt. Your lucky Tiny Tim has moved on

A few weeks ago a rolling road joined here to ask advice. Enough said.

At the end of the day it's up to you.

    Re: New Member

right from your first post you were negative
and i see no benefit to the club having negative members
your loss!!!!!! the club on a whole is worth every penny of
    the joining fee
as with every club there will be keyboard banter
stand up and take it on the chin
