cleaning up metal to shiny state!

I have a few stainless steel items in my engine bay,

these include forge header tank, breather pot, and the water chamber.

I also have a rocker cover however this is chrome so i dont think it will shine up..


Im thinking along the lines of , 800grade wet and dry, 1200 grade, 1500grade, and them autosol polish.

Those parts are not steel. They are Aluminium.

Unless it badly pitted the rocker cover Chrome will clean up with chrome polish. Maybe the Autosol if it's for Chrome.

The other parts don't need wet and dry! They are already polished. They just need a re-polish.

A suitable polishing wheel and polish on a fast mains powered electric drill will make it quicker than by hand with a cloth.

Better is to use a bench grinder with polishing wheel attached.

ah right i see, ok, they just seem to have heavy scratching all over you see, like maybb they have been attacked before with wet and dry.

Autosol metal polish

A proper polishing wheel on a big motor will get those scratches out in minutes if not seconds. If they are deep enough then a cutting compound can be used before the polish compound.

I spent 4 days polishing a previous turbo compressor, you know how rough cast and pitted they are, first with a flap wheel, IIRC, then a scotch-brite mop and eventually polishing compound, all on the mains electric drill.

The following turbo compressor I took to a professional polisher, it took him 15 minutes.
