    seized gearbox oil sump plug

    hiya hope some 1 can help my gearbox oil sump plug is seized and the bolts rounded off have tried the mole grips on the outer plug ring but its seized solid
    spoke to a mecahic and he doesnt fancy chizleing it round as the caseings alloy other option is to weld a bar to the plug but as i cant weld id have to find some 1 that could weld alloy
    any 1 have any other ideas how i could get the gear box oil out?

    the plug is steel. welding a bolt / bar to it will be the easiest way.

    was thinking if i cant get some 1 to weld a bar onto it would pulling the passangers side drive shaft out as the gear box oil usually comes out that way then just fill it up again would that work as a last resort/?

    most of the oil woould come out doing it that way, bit of a bodge though get it done right.

    i know its a bit of a bodgy way of doing it but am not working at the mo and dont think ill be able to afford to get some 1 to weld it will try though

    use an Aston super wrench that will shift it. Don't bother with molegrips they are ****e, they can't grip for ****

    Some I have seen have a big wing nut, others have the 3/8 drive fitting.

    Pretty sure it's a square 1, I'm sure there's a PMT way in which you use a spindle from an internal door

    Ph1 gearbox has a square drive...Ph2 is wingnut type of affair...*I think*...useful information, maybe not

    was thinking of chizleing it but dont fancy it as is i slip there will be a massive hole in the gear box .
    the bolt type i have is a size 13 nut with a hole in the middle couldnt find anything to fit the middle does the in side of a upc door hadle fit like some 1 said?

    it's 8mm square in the middle, same as the engine sump, isn't it ? some decent sump plug removal tools might be in order.

    no its not the same size scoff i have a engine oil sump plug tool and its to big for the gear box sump plug
    so what will fit it

    get an m12 or m10 bolt and gring the threaded end into a square that fits it!!

    Get a pair of plumbers pipe grips, the plug on my spare box was sized and they fetched it right out no problem

    You wont put a hole in it (unless your a retard with a chizz and hammer ), just because its an alloy cast doesnt mean its play-doh...

    your lucky mine aint lol what i plan to do is if i can get it out is to put a oil sump plug in it as there the same size like the idea of grinding down a bolt to make fit mite grind down something square tho
    i mite have a go at chizleing it everythinf on this 5 seems to be seized 1st it was a wish bone bolt that i had to blow touch and cut out
    then was a torx door pin

    u can buy a sump and drain plug tool like u have but a good set will come with 12 diferent size's.

    get yaself a 24 inch breaker bar a socket and try that, worked for me last weekend,
    1/4 inch square drive if i remember

    my sump plug tool only has 2 sizes on it and there not small enough lol were can i get 1 with all the sizes?

    right got a sump plug removel set that didnt move it ither tried plumer grips that also didnt work so took it down the local garage they tried chizeling it still didnt budge
    so i was desperate to get it done as my gears were dodgy so removed passangers side drive shaft and drained it that way got 99%
    out and refilled it and its much better gona get the sump plug removed next time by a garage but this will do me for now thanx evey 1 for there help
