    R5 gtt 1989 project/resto

Hi all this is my 2nd new 5 owned for 6months now, very slow progress due to working 60+ hours a week 7 days a week. so i thought i'll start a thread so it keeps me going with never endin work b4 the MOT. the car was from my m8 over redditch, a bit of a show car with carisma kit and 17'' wheels which failed its MOT in 2005 due to rusty sills on both sides. I always loved the engine in this car well built never let him down running 17- 23psi. My plan was to put it back to std outside and have sum fun at pod but when i got it home i started to mess and rust came out to play , now i am an engineer/toolmaker so i can weld but with just getting a house, havin a 2nd job and also my girlfriend who will not let me spend much on it, this is goin to be 1 long project

    the 5

this is how i got the car with carisma bumper removed.

the engine after a good clean, starts and runs like new.

phase 1's fitted but needs to be lowered. Gaz coilover Fitted so just needs adjustin.

removed crossmember to fit new ebay intercooler, may be new location for oil cooler.

intercooler fitted with new crossmember, my plan was to keep the std fog lights

Ive started on the pipe work, fitting a campus pulley as wasnt much room for the 51mm pipe work, if i had the money i would have them made up like my old k-tec 1's

also removed interior, rear bumper, side skirts, front window screen.

more jobs to come for Mot-

    new sills both sides
    jacking points both sides
    make/weld rear bumper mounts
    replace front window screen surround
weld hole up for removing arial
    remove adjustable boost, setup 23psi
    fit new carb kit
    fit one peice down pipe

    this was my last 5

built by me, wish i didnt sell it. anyone no if its still a RTOC member car

Yea I had it on the rollers at 150bhp. The guy that owned the rolling road said it was v well set up! So all your hard work payed off!
That engine was sweet never missed a beat mate! Think I'm gonna have to copy a few of your exterior mods mate like the vauxhal manta mirrior
and the front bumper and grill setup, that looked sweet! Oh and I sold it for what I paid for it.

yeah from the cars i raced on the road, it must of had 160-170 at 17psi, it was a fast car. only sold it to become an instructor. wish i never let it go. at the time i was sellin it there wasnt much interest as it was at £3000, to this day most of the 5s are **** at £2000. sad day for me to let it go. Yeah going to do same stuff to this car, but leaving outside almost std. is that your new white 5, they do luk good in white. dont no if i told you but my old 5 was Tungsten grey.

I have got a cats cam 285 charge cooler and I'm saving for a T 28. I'm runnin a T2 at the mo on v low boost while I'm running it in, so
I'm just gonna get the carb serviced and put 15psi through it and put it on the rollers to see where its at. what kind of power you looking for from your new project?

sounds gud, got k-tec cam and t28 turbo, and loads off other k-tec crap at 23psi, always known my new 5 as a fast car on 17" wheels, would hope to have 220bhp, going to try and run more boost.

Old pic of how the car was when my m8 got it, any 1 rem this car???

Removed adjustable boost setup, leaving bleed valve, removed most of the pipe work to carb, drill and tap where choke flap was for new air port, turned on lathe carb top leaving a 1.5mm lip for 90' hose now fitted on carb top. intercooler fitted, new B8EVX spark plugs, dissy cap and rotor arm fitted.
Next job to fit new carb service kit.

ive always said i would never have a car which had been messed with, best to do it your self, well the next job was to get the fan working off the rad fan switch. the fan wires have been messed up, sum **** thought it would be a good idea to remove it and fit a switch inside the car, ok i did this in my last 5 but i left it setup for the fan to cum on as it should do std aswell.

think ive got the Orange and Brown wires sorted from the relay, the red an black fan wires have been cut bk by sum ****.

Im after a new relay to get it working, has any 1 got the gsf part number for the relay which controls the rad fan???
