Sounds like master cylinder seal or a leak of the fluid from the system from one of the pipes/calipers.

That will need investigating and fixing before you take the car back on the road so no MOT for you today by the looks of it.

    Yeah it's bad luck mate

I don't understand it fully but when I had a master cylinder leak, it didn't affect the fluid level.

I think it's the seal between the cylinder and the servo (i.e. not a fluid seal).

Re: help quick ,, brakes dont work !!!!! MOT in 20 mins

right i will be getting under the car later after work hopefully to have a look . i dont think its the rubber pipe that goes to the calliper its the green metal pipe that runs up the car (i bet it was this scorpian exhaust knocking on it) .

so next question is, it gonna be hard to fix ?
ive seen some 5 break line kits on ebay but i think its just a lengh of brass pipe that you bend yourself.
it shouldnt be to hard bending and running the pipe up the car but im not sure how the pipes connect to each end or how to remove the old ones , ill have a read in the haynes in a bit see what it says.
is there a way of cutting out the bit of split pipe and adding a small section ?

Do renault still sell the pipes ?
any estimates on what a garage would charge to do the work for me ,,,,
as i think this may be little to hard for me and where breaks are concearned i dont want to mess it up.

any help would be greatly appreciated keep on smiling

I had my rear brake pipes done for the last MOT. Think you have to drop the petrol tank? BUT. I needed new rear calipers as the bleed nipples were welded in. Oh and a new handbrake cable because that was seized. £350 all in I think.

I think so. Like I said, I took it to my local garage so don't know how they did it.

The ends of the brake pipes are just hollow bolts (effectively) if you're wondering how to remove them, they might be stiff/seized so it's probably best if you spray each end with WD40 or a similar product to make the job easier. If it's just that one length of pipe's that's split, you could buy a roll of brake pipe (I forget the diameter) and make your own ends with a flaring tool. Although, it's nice to have the full set for the future in case other pipes decide to split.

i did my whole brake setup last year, pipe from front to back was about £15, ends were a pound each, rear calipers £50 each and handbrake cables £9 each... then just a couple of evenings to fit. god bless GSF

In Hungary it was less than half the prise. But I think the trip would cost you more.

i didn't need to remove the tank, or the rear beam, and i managed it on axle stands about a foot from the floor, on a 2 post ramp i'd guess its a pretty easy job to fit the lines, its getting the seized ends out thats probably where most of the labour comes from

its actually fairly simple once you get stuck in , although i have threaded a nut into the master cylinder (thankfully its the nut thread gone not the one in the cylinder)

just waiting for my flaring tool to turn up.
oh then the dredded bleading starts

nearley done now car is booked back in for the 3rd , i hope i make it to the test centre this time .

fitted new pipe none of the nuts were siezed , brake line spanner was a good shout so thanks markey b.

I think there is a bit more bleeding needed (ive used 1 litre on one line) as the brake in question is not getting that hot like the others and peddle feels fairly easy to press also the revs are a bit eratic when the brake is pushed.
