First post!
Standard ride height GTT, with original speedline 5 spokes (13 inch rim). What size wheel and tyre would fit without looking like the wheels are lost in the arches????

most people go with 15" wheels with 195 45 15 tyres. they supposed to be the best for handling/cost/looks etc.

Lee, for the 13" rim, the standard tyre size is 195/55/13 and whilst the wheels do look a bit lost in the arches at standard suspension height, the wheel and tyre combination appear correct in relation to each other and that's more important.
If you go up to a 195/60/13 like a lot of people do as the tyres are cheaper, it just changes the whole look, to something much worse. The tyres look too big for the rims, like they've been over-inflated, it's pretty horrible. That is to say, increasing the tyre profile is not the way forward
Either stick with the correct tyre size (and suspension height), consider lowering the car, or go with larger wheels. You may find that only a combination of height and wheels/tyres gives you exactly what you want. The best example to my mind is Jonny5's, lowered on 195/45/15:

Quite like the original speedlines, could get them refurbished, may just need dropping slightly as per the bottom photo...

If I wanted to drop it say 35mm ish, what is the best way to approach??? Is it just shorter springs and shocks... Or coil overs ????
I understand how the torsion bar thing works..

You have lots of options for a 35mm drop.
- Lowering springs on standard shocks (they are just about good enough to withstand a 35mm drop but no more)
- Lowering springs on after-market shocks
- A height adjustable coilover kit
For the rear you can just adjust the torsion bars on their own, or in conjunction with a set of after market rear shocks.
Remember you will need to adjust the brake balancer to suit, which is a simple job.

So how do coilovers work ???
Are they a one piece bit of kit or do you need springs etc...
And if you use coilovers does that mean you can adjust the ride height up and down???
If so what ones would you use??

The lower spring platform sits on threaded section of the shock absorber so you can adjust the height. No, they aren't one piece. See pics.

Yes I see...
What I meant was, that if you buy the Koni shock you then have to get the lowering spring aswell (fixed at 35mm drop). But if you buy the Gaz coilover thats it... You then can adjust the ride height???

Or go option one from my list above and just buy 35mm lowering springs and stick them on your existing standard shocks.
