I have decided to rebuild my koni sport dampers but don't know what poundage spring to use. Has anyone found a good setup for the extra weight? I wad thinking 300 ish pounds.

Maybe need something a bit stiffer. Mine will be mainly for road use tho and the odd track day but il just increase the dampening. Does anyone know what poundage the red springs are that come with the koni's as standard are? As il just go a bit stiffer than that.
I'm using 300's with my Avon's and F7R, ok my engine is probably heavier but 300's do perfectly for road and track
I was thinking about 300lbs ish but james5 reckoned more like 400lbs but his was silly low how can I find out what poundage my springs are as there's nothing stamped on them.
check out rally designs in the contact section, they do a large assortment of springs in various lengths and poundages , round about £15 each+vat
as regards to the red springs no idea, but i always thought most coil over kits came with 150- 180lb ratings
i ran 350lb springs in the back of mine (rear engine) felt okay but still rolled a bit in gerrards at mallory, different set i know, but thats what i would go with on a fwd 5 gtt , compremise between the road and track
cheers handy yeah thats what im looking for a good compromise something thats not to harsh on the roads but works well on track with just turning up the dampening resistance. il look at rally designs i think a 350lbs spring sounds about right.
is there any way of checking the poundage of my springs?
if you cant find the stamp/print on the springs, and you can't find any info from the company that made /sold the mentioned items, then i would say not
had a look on the springs but cant see anything
oops read that wrong, you can get spring compressor /testing equipment that have a built in dial type gauge that somehow read the spring poundage, but not cheap, unless you know a local garage that happen to own such an item
for how much the springs cost approx £47 posted last time i got a set from rally design, easier just to bite the bullet
Yep makes sense, il give them a good clean and look again. Cheers fella.
Mine too (180), they were quite good, but 275 i would say are too hard for the road really even with my dampers on soft. Unless you only use a and b roads. I normally drive on the lanes and moors and they could do with being changed for road use. Could be a bit stiffer because of my big ARB?
Traction comes from keeping the tyre on the road, if they are too hard then you will skip over the bumps and ruin your handling
Think I will try and find out the poundage of my springs and see what they are like with new dampers. Anythings got to be better than a stiff damper one side and no dampening the other
Yep I also do a lot of back lane driving and there are a lot of potholes round here n all so don't want anything too stiff.
Think you'll find she said put that ****ing thing away
I've got the clio S1600 tarmac springs down as 5.25 to 6 Kg/mm, they'll be a bit heavier than a 5 (I think 980Kg).
Thanks Andy,
Metric to Standard:
1 (kg / mm) = 55.9974146 pounds / in
2 (kg / mm) = 111.994829 pounds / in
3 (kg / mm) = 167.992244 pounds / in
4 (kg / mm) = 223.989658 pounds / in
5 (kg / mm) = 279.987073 pounds / in
6 (kg / mm) = 335.984488 pounds / in
7 (kg / mm) = 391.981902 pounds / in
8 (kg / mm) = 447.979317 pounds / in
9 (kg / mm) = 503.976731 pounds / in
10 (kg / mm) = 559.974146 pounds / in
11 (kg / mm) = 615.971561 pounds / in
12 (kg / mm) = 671.968975 pounds / in
13 (kg / mm) = 727.966390 pounds / in
14 (kg / mm) = 783.963804 pounds / in
S1600 from 280 - 335 but is heavier than a 5... I know where i would be in that range for a back road car

i have found the number (what looks like) 36151 printed on the spring. Anyone have any idea what that refers to?
