Nice.
Guess I should take it off and have a look - should only be able to blow air through it one way, yer?

Right the servo one-way valve is off, seems to be working but then I don't know what pressures it is under when on the car so it may be weak?
I think I have found the problem though :
Should air come in from the top inlet, and the right hand side then go out of the left hand side (the one usually facing the bottom, when fitted to the car)?
I can blow in from any side and air comes out of both the other outlets. As it's a one-way valve, this shouldn't be the case....

nah.. wont be that... have you checked all your vacume hoses??
Is that what people call the swirl pot then? Is there only one 1-way valve? The one on the servo?
I've sprayed carb cleaner in places yer, it's a bit hard to see any change in idle when the car won't idle lol. But with the choke on I can't see any noticeable change when sprayed with carb cleaner.
Had no reply from Colin either.
Is there anyone else that could come and fix the car?

I am sure you have already worked it out by now and i apologise for sounding patronising - These are your one-way valves dude. As you can see there is 2 of them and they screw into the back of your inlet manifold below your carb.
In my photo they have one yellow and one black pipe attached to the back of them.
The yellow pipe is part of the breather system and the black pipe goes off to the brake servo.
take them both out,, inspect them thoughrouly, and put them back,, without overtighning, as the threads can snap. If its not that,, check ALL of your vaccuum hoses next.
OOOOoooooo I see now. Didn't realise that they actually screw into the back of the carb! Bit hard to see them from the top of the carb, especially if you don't know they're supposed to be there.
I was following the pipework, trying to find the damn valves and ended up at the breather pot and brake servo.
Please let it be those!
Thanks!
Took those valves off, gave them a soak in IPA and a blast with carb cleaner, refitted and refitted the servo valve (pain in the arse), still no joy.
Had a nose around the carb and spotted this:
Looks like the mixture screw has gone walkies.
When you put the new one in, to get the car running half decent on the tick over, wind it all the way in, then back it off one and a half turns, then get it C0 checked, once adjusted to the correct C0 reading, blob some silicon sealer over the top of it, that will stop it flying out in the future.
Do you have the p/n for a new mixture screw?
Hi Col, hopefully won't need your help now but if I do I will get in touch.
New mixture screw on order from Renault, should be here Friday at the latest. Thanks for the tip Matt, not sure I will have time to get the CO checked as I'm hoping someone will come and see the car on the weekend but will pass on the info if he chooses to buy it.
Mark - fingers crossed! But knowing my luck it won't be the end of my problems. I can pretty much guarantee it! Stopped having a positive outlook towards the car about 3 years ago.
Have fitted the new screw and tried this but it doesn't seem to have made much difference at all.
Still won't idle and when on choke it is hunting about all over the place.
Unscrewing the screw further makes no difference.
Basically, it's still the same but without the major popping.
