Mental how do you control it lol
-
Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
That's crazy a well tunned gtt makes half the power you've got.
Well done on all your R&D to achieve this and well done to Scoff for having to balls to map at 42psi. :agree:
Have you used it on the road with a the gas yet? :D
-
Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
ah this is nothing, ive heard about no end of baseball cap wearing chavs and there bothers with renault 5s with 'everything done to them' and there like faster than anything and around 1000bhp.. You need to catch up...
on a serious note well done ;)..

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
top work, very impressive
-
Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
Assuming that the car weighs about 850kg thats 523bhp/tonne!
That more than a bugatti veyron  A legendary gtt :agree:

Where at limit of injectors and map sensor but made 358bhp without gas

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
Impressive stuff. Is it actually road legal? It must be outrageous to drive on the street with road tyres!
So..... Where do you go from here with it?

really looking forward to seeing this in the tens this year :-)
-
Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
:burnrubber::niceone: very impressive:agree:
I just can't imagine what it's like to drive on the road, mine has over 200 hp and thats mental enough, twice that power and then some must be insane:cool:

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
After we finished for the evening and before it went back on the trailer, glenn took me for a blast up and down the dual carriageway behind the unit. With no gas there is no grip in 3rd gear even, the tacho just sits at 8500rpm stuck to the limiter while your being dragged left and right as the diff struggles to find traction ! Propper madness, but good fun

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
Awesome achievement!! This makes me want to develop the engine in the van more!

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
What power level is a LSD absolutely essential at ? I suspect there isnt much point getting past 250 with effectively supermarket trolley style power delivery

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
I run 300 in the clio with an open diff, 12.3s 1/4 and its surprisingly docile on the road.
not sure if the clio has a more capable chassis over the five, and extra weight helps too :)
-
Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
I think i need to save some pennies up ;)

Mine lights up both wheels in 3 &4 might be 40psi boost in and 800 rpm time window from 10to 40 in less than 1/2 second
-
Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
I couldnt believe how quick it spooled on the vid. 1/2 second from 10to40psi????? thats epic.

Nitrous spools it almost instantly tony but even without gas it seems to get to a point and then boost comes round very quick. Not as laggy as I expected. I originally thought I was going to have to map it with a small shot of gas in order to get to full boost but it that wasn't the case :)

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
Are you using the standard rockers on it? Assumming peak power is 6-7k upwards with a turbo that big, interested to whether they need replacing or uprating?

Rockers seem fine push rods are weak
-
Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
The engine limits at 8500rpm oli, rockers seem good, I don't think I've ever seen a rocker fail ? Retainer caps are also a weak point, a few cracked and it was a miracle they didn't fall apart and drop a valve. One was so bad that it fell in half when tapped on the bench after being removed. His engine has titanium retainers this year.

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
And what cam are you using?
It should be at least some 300 cam otherwise it would be no use to rev the engine so much.

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
Nice to hear that about the rockers, had been looking at some custom billet roller ones, good to find that money is better spent elsewhere..... we went one piece valves, custom colletts and ti retainers a while back, had the same thing happen, probably more due to high rpm and fatigue than anything else. Never had the balls to take it past 7200k regularly for fear of the rockers letting go. Without giving away all the secrets assuming wire ringed liners and athena gasket? Hugely impressive build! especially since you've stuck with the C1J head rather than the 'Dini crossflow! Looking fwd to seeing the results at the strip! :D

Re: 445.2 bhp 1.4 c1j they said it could not be done
they said its was not possible :D:D:D:D:D
just like to point out that renault did make it possible.......wayback in 1987-1988 with the renault 5 turbo production racer using a direct fuel injected 1.4 pushrod,(gordini head) garrett t3/4 turbo, drysump system, chargecooler with water injection to propel the mid engined beast to 430 bhp with 44.8 psi of boost:D....... all through a twin plate / factory standard un1 type gearbox for compliance with the french production championship rules......... and all without nos;)
by all accounts it was quite a lag monster with little power delivery below 4000rpm and from there to 7500 it was ballistic:smokin: traction was a issue also, renault fitted 16"x8.25" rims with 24.5" wide rubber on the front and 17"x8.75 "rims with 27" wide rubber on the rears, and it was still an absolute pig to control with large amounts of oversteer in corners:scared::cool::smokin:
so quite clearly it is possible:D,and with the advances in turbo design, and stand alone ecu technology, more so than back in the day;)
biggest hold back for most peeps would always be cost and long term reliability :)
but credit due you've achievied an epic result for the c1j for sure :agree:
well done Glen:cool::goodJob:
