gaz adjustable front mounts
right sorting this out at the mo
now as people know these arnt for sale from most places but im sorting this.
now this really is a group buy at the mo as these will be custom made by gaz for everyone.
they are currently working on a set for me so i can show everyone but i need to get a minimum of 10 people together to get everyone a set.
so this will be a pair of adjustable front mounts for the 5 gtt phase 2.
again later on i will sort phase 1 sets out but its not possible at the mo.
heres a teaser picture :D
one to the left is for a bmw and the one to the right is a pug 205
will get a pic of a five set up in a couple of weeks when complete.
need to form a list for people wanting these

Re: gaz adjustable front mounts
Hiya,
Thanks for trying to arrange a group buy but just to help members feel safe with giving you cash, could you please advise in this post (and update your first post) of the below?
1) What exact prices have you come to depending on how many are bought? ie - If 10 people buy they'll be £100 a set, if only 5 people buy then £130 a set etc?
2) Is there a postage cost involved?
3) How will payment be taken exactly?
4) When will payment be taken?
5) Are guarantees and receipts provided for each of the products?
I don't want this to come across rudely, I hope you understand that we just need to protect our members and give them as much information as possible before parting with any cash :)
-
Re: gaz adjustable front mounts
if they are similar to the ones on the left of picture im in :)

Re: gaz adjustable front mounts
Just for information and I know a design hasn't been set on yet but the ones on the right foul the chassis when being rotated unless you modify where it bolts onto the car, the solution would be a reversed type mount where the protruding part which holds the bearing is on the underside.
Also kudos for taking the time to organise this for others.
-
Re: gaz adjustable front mounts
Will they make drop links to correct the wishbone and track rod angle on a lowered car?
-
Re: gaz adjustable front mounts
Scott are you the chap who bought Brads grey 5GTT?
Did you try the 250lb / inch springs and Koni shocks that were on there?
-
Re: gaz adjustable front mounts
Definetly interested,as long as the price stays decent, they fit std phase2 setup (w/o coilovers) and can be posted to Finland at sensible extra cost.
Thanks for trying to organize this

Yes, the springs were mine originally. I specified them and had them made.
Have you tried Gaz yet?
I only ask as the consensus over the years amongst members of this club is that the Gaz, Avo, Leda invariably disappoint, unless for track use.
I forget why now, maybe they are just unusably hard for road use.
I've been in a 5GTT with stupidly hard Avos and only for a few hundred yards. That was more than enough.
As you know from what you currently have, those 250lb / inch springs give quite a hard ride. But the Konis are fairly soft and move with bumps and holes so the ride is bearable and remains stable.
If the dampers are set to be more or less, non moving, then the tyres are the only suspension and the car gets bounced around and you have to drive slower.

yea iv had secondhand gaz coilovers befor and i loved them! i had a softer spring on them but the konis are bloody good and the car corners well! but i preffer a stiffer ride pluss i can then lower the front of my five a little as it sits high with them on.plus on the gaz setup the dampening is ajustable so i can adjust them to suit what i want :agree:
-
Re: gaz adjustable front mounts
Don't make the mistake about adjustable. Those Konis are rebound adjustable aren't they? Koni told me the idea is that you start on soft and turn up the rebound setting as they wear.
Adjustable is the 6 or 8 way adjustable KYB or Koni sport, etc. Those might still be twin tubes and so even better I would think are the monotubes such as the better Bilsteins and the KYB ultra SR. I would call these 'proper' dampers. But they're not adjustable. Nor are they 'coil over'. I presume monotubes can be if you pay enough.
The 'coil overs' do have those nice advantages and, being thin, allow some outward offset to compensate for having lowered the car. It's easy to try different spring rates and get the height right.
I would not have wanted the front lower for road use than I had it with those springs as I NEEDED suspension travel as I drove FAST over bumpy roads. It's the main thing that annoys me with the Fiat and each time I drive over a country lane is a main motivation for changing to a car with taller wheels and proper suspension travel.
I found the Bilsteins to be several leagues better than the Spax I had as they have asymmetric damping. They remain firm at low speed giving the car control but move with high velocity impacts, ie, over bumps. Which is exactly what suspension should do and the Gaz, Leda, Avo, Spax style never did, as far as I know. Of course they may be much better now :)
Anyway, we can't get the better Bilstein for the 5GTT (I already asked a few years ago, well they said they MIGHT be able to supply, but maybe £500 a pair or something, so more now I'd think) or KYB (checked this week on-line) so it's a non contention. But I can get the KYB monotubes for my Fiat.
You should ask Gaz if they supply their shocks with a softer bump setting for use with a harder spring. Or the combination of the hard spring and hard bump valve might be too much. I was next going up to 300lb springs for the Konis and Koni would re valve them for those. I think Duncan Greer on here had that done with his.

wow thats a great bid of knowledge  i will ask about the coilovers with softer settings.learning new things everyday !:agree: well if i decide to get rid of my konis i will give you a shout first. i am open to offers onthem as i do really want the gaz coilovers but i will look further into my new found knowledge ;) thanks for the info!
i know the gazcoilovers now are very highly rated and alot of people now use these so will have to give a review on them once there fitted. i know the ford boys love gaz!and you very rarly hear of any complaints.
