ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
found this bag of bolts on ebay was thinking ooooooo gonna have a bid till i read the description lmao
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-5-...item1c222b7754
them arches are not maxi arches the fronts look like copys or cut originals as this is a maxi arch:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/miniokp...n/photostream/
and rear maxi arches had a diffrent vent and were some thing like 4 inches wider:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/miniokp...n/photostream/
so really he should relist it as a rusty old turbo 2 that should be broken up for a spair engine and i seriously doubt the gear box is a maxi the distinguishing feature is its alloy...............what else they gonna make a un1 casing out of cast lol
he goes on about 8220's for 50 grand...........there kept in a bubble this was kept in a barn. estimates people...... 7-8 grand final price
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
i reckon it will go for £10k.
think about it.
engine rebuild will be about £600
turbo rebuild another £350
bodyshop to sort the rust and repaint £2-3k
then sell for.....
£25k - £30k?
sounds like a good return to me....
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
What Sort Of Price Do You Think Its Worth Thanks Glenn
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
listed as right hand drive, 1985 too. aren't the alloy panel ones turbo 1's?
i think the seller is also saying that the gearbox will be sold separately, so presumeably will be removed bofore collection ??
the bumpers dont look right, like they're off a different car and the o/s/r wing looks really warped.
think it needs alot more spending than that tho to get anywhere near the re sale price of 30k, the whole thing wants everything stripping off and re-building inc rear arches. anything metal looks quite rusty so bound to need a load of daft bits too along with all the usual service bits. recon ya nearer to 6k for the restoration without replacing any really expensive rare parts.
pretty sure any bidders above 5k wont fall for the usaul 'rare this that and the other' and will know better and see it as a tatty t2.
me personally 6k, as your getting into v6 clio territory then but no more than 8k for a none runner, engine and turbo could be scrap and without knowing why it was just parked up and left to rot you just takin a chance. like gtt's in that condition they are generally only parked up and left when its broke lol
still, nice project none the less,

Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
I asked my dog and even he said its RUFF *LOL*
OMG how bad is that car
its lhd as you can see the steering column and brake servo, so the guys taken his time doing the listing...... NOT
Russ, those front wings are TDC not maxi, and they where an option for the 8221. There's something really really bad going on with those rear arches tho
I'm sure its the car that was in the Isle of Man....... As I've not seen many with the wing mirrors like that, as most 8221's have either standard gordini mirrors or the proper tiny tiny maxi wing mirrors. plus not all of the 8221's have the alloy roof! better get the magnet out!
oh but if it is the Isle of Man car.........that was in a field for 2 years, so it will be rotten, and I think it ended up in the field backwards! LMFAO!!!
it might have the steel liner engine, but everything else about the engine looks standard, 421 manifold, 165 dissy, 165 intercooler, so as its been standing, the piston and liners are prob knackered anyway!
I thought the same as Russ... oohh might have a punt, but just looking at it, its good for parts unless you're feeling ££££ and you really want to put it back on the road.
So looking quickly its as Sparkie says: engine rebuild, turbo rebuild, he's not selling it with the 'maxi' gearbox, (actually it will be the tour de course, which is the same as std just a factory LSD), needs need brakes (LMFAO good luck), wishbones (can you speak french and have £££££££) and then you'll have to start on the rust :scared: and body work,
if you're paying for the work........................£15K to make it mint?? plus what you're buying the car for, for that money, you can get a nice std car if you look hard.
I'll keep my money thanks! (and i've bought some crap in my time! LMFAO)

mmmmm can someone make that picure bigger????? different wheels but looks very very similar and that will be the one I'm thinking about.......IOM Gurnsey, I was close:wasntme:
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
haz ur right about the alloy pannels a turbo 1 is alloy roof and doors from memory and a fancy inside (crazy seats and dash)
this is a turbo 2 (gordini inside) but a limited run.
as for 25-30k if it had every piece of paper since the dawn of time yes
and we all know some fool will buy it and go ahhh ive a million pound car lets take it to some one who charges a million to fix it..........."mr J" SOME 20,000 QUID LATER it might be a hlaf decent turbo2
but as for some one buying it and doing it on the cheap...........nahhhh not gonna happen, you know who hard parts are to get even if you can fill half the engine with gtturbo bits ;)

Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
I really want this, might go and see the bank manager... My GTT was in a worse state, although I might have to buy a Dini for spares to convert to RHD. I don't see why you wouldn't want a RHD conversion if your going to keep it and actually use it in the uk!
Very tempted!
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
If I remember correctly the RHD converted cars didnt use the same ratio steering rack.
I think the owner of that car used to be a member on here a few years ago he had an Anglia with a cosworth engine fitted and a few other toys.
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
That looks to have disaster written all over it :sad2:
£20k to get mint, plus buying the car, plus the spectre that you might never really know exactly what it is you've bought (and therefore whether it was ever worth the money). :disagree:

cos dini's are nearly as rare, and to chop one up nowadays would be sacrilege. lhd isnt that bad and you get used to it quickly...

lhd is ace nothing like seeing down the inside of the car in front to overtake and ****ting the passenger up as you pull out

Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
Tempted to go and have a butchers at this tomorrow lads..! Got nowt else on as the company I worked for went into liquidation the other week, gotta keep myself busy! ;)
He says he's had an offer of £10k though...:crap: Sounds a bit strong to me.
300 mile round trip too!
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
take some pics of the best/worst bits for us all if you decide to go :D
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
Yeah post some pics up mate, i wouldn't go near 10k for it. 6k is about right (with the gearbox 6.5k)...

without the gearbox its worthless as its just a rotten turbo 2 shell that has an oval plate that starts 8221 instead of 8220
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
i still reckon itll go for more than 6k.
when was the last time you saw one that needed work coming up for sale for reasonablish money?
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
oh yeah! of couse it will, and then it will be like that red t2 that did the rounds a few years ago
think it was sold for 6k or 7k a few times, 10k was spent with "HIM" and then it was parked up as the guy ran out of money and eventually it was broke and scrapped!
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
dont you think it looks like its got damage to the nearside front wing/headlamp?
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
mmmmm that or the metal has popped off the wing due to rust, and apart from major surgery, you'll have to bodge it back on or buy new wings, and don't listen to that guy on ebay, as std turbo 2 wings ARE available from renault, as the ones he has are the ones I bought from renault when he bought my from blot, and never sold on! plus they are cheaper from renault! LOL
I'm still worried about those rear arches tho, they look like they are packed with newspaper and weetabix
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
seeing as its got 7 days and is gathering cash fast i think hes bidding it up with another acount?:scared:
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
Well I spent all day in the pub so didn't go.... 10k is way over the top for that. That chassis isn't far off a scrapper I reckon (and may well still be), it'll need sills, floors, chassis members etc and then starts not being an original car. The geezer says its got the full paperwork, but still.. end of the day its a Renault 5.
Nice project, but in reality a pipe dream. Shame... :)
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
Well she's up too £6.2k and still going
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
its a rust bucket its got no tax or mot and is falling to bits bet hes buying it back lol
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
One of the RAOC lads has seen it in the flesh .
'yes i have looked at this car probally the rustiest one i have ever seen easier and cheaper to reshell i will have a bid though as i have a lovely rust free shell hidden away '
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
the one in Mark Wick's (maximan) garden is rustier i bet, or the one that somone tried to offload on moggy a few years ago (with a 21 turbo lump in it???) - now that was RUSTY!

LMFAO
get real please!
he's taking the factory fitted gearbox that SHOULD be in the car out,
so basically you're buying a set of vin tags.
he hasnt' confirmed if it has the ally roof, and I've seen a few and not everyone has it. he 'says' the engine has work but its still running a 165 (std) intercooler and dissy
I'd take a nice 8220 any day of the week.
-
Re: ebay turbo 2 maxi arches my arse
infact
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Opel-Manta...item27c1c485ff

i'm not sure about that matey, my t2 felt well planted and did go round corners quite well, enough to pull away from Ron in a GTT on a road he knew and i didnt. having said that the tyres i had on it might have helped - 285 rears...
but the expense thing is definately a bottom clencher. as russell said - clutch anyone?
