rotten raider project...
after not owning this for 5 years, i brought it back from a freind for a decent price, the inner and outer sills were gone, as was the boot quarter, bumper brackets, and inner arch tub:scared:, me being tight, and not wanting to pay a stupid amount of cash to get a body shop to do it set about grinder in hand, brought a welder, lots of sticker flex, and set to work, heres as it stands.....
tucked up ready to be stripped..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0887.jpg
the welder i got from machine mart, £300 vat free day special with a proper dimmer mask..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0888.jpg
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0898.jpg
set to work doing the inner and outer sills, made my own inners up and theanks to bigfoot for the link to buy the sills...
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0897.jpg
welded the drivers side up, made new jacking point up, and under silled the lot..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0893.jpg

Re: rotten raider project...
then set to work on the rear, its not pretty mt welding as im no pro, just a novice, but ill have a go and fabricated the rear panel, bumper bracket, boot floor, and arch tub..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0900.jpg
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0908.jpg
if it was seen id have given it to a body shop to do and have my bootm slapped on the price, but i have a young family to pay for, so im on a tight budget :)
cracked open the hammerite oxford blue, and went to town with it, aswell as the stickaflex and under sill...

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0902.jpg
and lastly got to do the passanger side sill, not as rottern as the drivers was

-
Re: rotten raider project...
Your car is looking sweet, makes me want a standard ish looking one.
Good luck with the door pin removal tool ive got the same tool but i had a stubborn roll pin and ended up ruining the little pin that drops through, ended up getting another pin and she eventually went, the other side was very easy iirc though,

the mig has been fantastic, and with the vat free offer only cost £300 with the mask, it was ideal for the shockingly thin metal floor pans and bits that burn threw easy, the rest of the car and all welds were covered in a thick seam of sticker flex, so it shouldnt rot for a few years
door pins are fitted, and of to collect my new white clock set in the morning , then just a case of fitting the turbo tues/weds, then the project is 99% done:)

machine mart tools are under rated, and the mig welder i brought was as good as a snap-on i i have used before:)

this is about the 4th time welding a car, only problem with renaults is the thickness of the steel, you can somtimes have it on the lowest output and still burn a hole

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSCF0989.jpg
then the best part turned up in the post, a fully rebuilt t28 turbo, new rear housing, polished inlet, new exhaust wheel and shaft, stagger gap and 360 thrust bearings, the works...

W.H.Whitinghams are based in Rochford, Essex where I used to live. They used to be a main dealer Renault garage back in the day and still specialise in Renaults amongst others.
A friend of mine works there, has done for years along with his father
-
Re: rotten raider project...
lookin spot on
dont use that new turbo, just leave it off the car on the mantlepiece looking shiny! only took 6 months or so for mine to rust to hell :(
-
Re: rotten raider project...
looks cracking mate.. but.... them wheels deserve some love.. get them split and powdercoat them centres,. then give the lips some super wet sanding / polishing action.
-
Re: rotten raider project...
well after the guy who was ment to be buying it turned out to be chatting brezze i thought id strip the shocks down, and treat it to some new ones, not bad for £35 the pair of flee bay, im not fitting coilovers as its not a track car, and 60mm springs will do nicely...
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...cks2012005.jpg
once aprt, i cleaned up all the parts to find one of the top hats cracked, sp wipped the welder out and gave it a blast, should do the job
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...cks2012004.jpg
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...cks2012003.jpg

Re: rotten raider project...
got a bit more done today, got a set of 60mm apex springs for a whopping £10 to replace these cut down kings:laugh: ...
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...exhaust003.jpg
and built up the shocks with new bearings etc..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...exhaust002.jpg
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...exhaust007.jpg
next on the list was to get rid of the massive barry boys back box..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...exhaust001.jpg
and below is the replacment, only cost a fiver, had to welsd a bit in to make it fit, but looks a millon times better imo..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...exhaust005.jpg
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...exhaust006.jpg
tommrow ill fit it all back up, and may start on the painting of the wheel centres..
-
Re: rotten raider project...
got a few extra bits for the rot box, new wheel bolts to replace the four locking wheel bolts on each wheel
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...eelbolt003.jpg
then finished faffing around with the exhaust ..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...eelbolt010.jpg
and because the wheel are drilled ll the way threw from the hubs it was impossible to get the right caps for them, so i settled for these 7 quid ebay audi rs4 one, will do the job...
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...eelbolt012.jpg
