Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
I thought it might be a good idea for everyone whos cars are off the road to make a list in this thread of there cars and whats needed to be done to get them to national day?
Maybe this way smaller problems could be sorted by local members if needed?? Or just some advice given??
My list stands at
1- Rusty windscreen panel replaced
2-Turbo rebuilt(bit smokey )
Anyone else feel free to add :agree:

Nice and easy then. might sound daft..... whats ATR?
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Build an inlet manifold.
Modify radiator.
Modify intercooler.
Pipe everything up.
Wire everything up.
FIt bonnet catches.
Hope it actually works.
Run it in.
Get Scoff to Map it.

Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Not much to do really
-Pass another years MOT
-Find the cash for insurance
-get to and from France safely
-fit fuel bits to sort fuelling
-finally get up to Scoff's for a set up
-and try not to blow the car to bits
-fit wasted spark
-finish off screamer pipe
-fit new bumper and grill
-maybe get the P-s1uts a diamond cut refurb
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
- Check Cam timing and possibly fit vernier if needed.
- Weld baffled sump and fit.
- Investigate the options available for installing a better or additional silencer to the sidey.
- Change the grill to an unmolested one.
- Take the roofrack and 2 internal doors off the top (she's a worker!)
- Buff me plumbs.
- Evoke some enthusiasm from local members.
That's it
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
:D hmmm after yesterdays track day my cam timing also seemed to be a bit too retarded. seemed to really start pulling around 5-5500 which is bit too high.
1- Rusty windscreen panel replaced
2-Turbo rebuilt(bit smokey )
3-Check/adjust cam timing.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
as mine stands atm only one thing needs doing and thats to get this megajolt fitted and mapped by scoff.

-strip it down and build to my liking
-source various parts to try and get another quick clean minter
Unless anyone is selling a good mint condition one which saves me half my time :agree:
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Fit new brake lines
Change rear pads
Decide wether to fit roll cage or not
Fit pace inter cooler
Fit gt2860r turbo
Fit 285 cam and springs
I'll probably only get the brake lines done by then.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
lol, sometimes it can take an age to get things done. Best way is to book some time to it and crack on :agree: i got my turbo off today, not much play which foxed me a little, but rear is wet with oil, I ran the engine without the turbo, no smoke but i did notice that the oil drain couldnt get rid of the oil that was being pumped out the feed pipe, i think the turbo bearing restriction will probably slow the flow enough tho.

Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
My rocker cover wasnt quite sealing so whipped it off and knocked out the holes, they had caved in slightly on each one.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Change gearbox
Change clutch
Bigger turbo
Remap
Valver wide track conversion
Tracking and alignment
Roll cage
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Well i can cross one thing off my list, got my fogs working :agree:
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...7/e177de67.jpg
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
wish my fogs worked :( thats a little to do list that never gets looked at.
As long as the steerings connected to the wheels along with some form of engine driving them and a bit of braking from somewhere then im happy :agree:
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Need to fix my turbo or replace and fit a front mount intercooler
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
perfect opportunity to weld your wastegate shut and fit a external :D save the money of a new turbo plus more power :)
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
retrieve new block from machine shop and fit pistons
find a head and get it sorted
bolt everything back onto the engine inc all shiny new service items etc
put engine in car
sort exhaust system out
drive the nuts off it :-)
that's the succinct version, may involve tad more work than that!

Sounds good to me....... makes me realise how many massive projects are going on lol
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
where do i start......
1.) cut adaptronic loom in half and add a connector in the engine bay so i can remove the engine and leave the ecu and loom in the car
2.)fit turbo teds old T34 and external wastegate, remake downpipe with a 3" flex so it dont crack again. fit 500cc injectors fit v8 rear engine mount, fit jc5 gearbox so i can have a speedo with programmable boost
3.)paint the inside of the car floor in digital Camouflage
4.) get some /make DOOR CARDS!!!! front and rear just flat ones and wrap them in a rat look/comic book look
5.)put in my cobra evolution seats and harnesses
6.) strip the lacquer off my ronal turbos and mirror polish
im sure this list will get bigger, ive just cut out 2 carryer bags of wiring out my valver dash conversion (central locking, radio, electric windows ect) and integrated switched live feeds and constant feeds for my adaprtronic its just when i did my minimalistic wiring in the engine bay i made the hole for the loom so small i cant pull it through the scuttle panel  so hence me putting a durite 20 pin plug in the engine bay.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
I need to get my dash out....... really cant be bothered removing the cage tho, think i may just chop the dash up........... any recomendations people? its a safety devices cage.

Thanks mate. I took two weeks holiday to do the work among other things.
It never stops tho, just purchased an uprated bosch fuel pump from simply-automotive to go on and then the fun of jetting the carb using the afr meter begins.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
:) its not so bad doing the 2nd stage, not alot u can do really, 1.2 1.3 1.4 my air corrector wouldnt come out without some brutality so i just left it lol
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Something that amazed me as a first time afr gauge user is how we all think the standard carb will fuel for 1bar on a standard engine. Im running 10psi for now with air filter/exhaust/hybrid turbo and im lean at wot in 3rd/4th (13.6/13.8) i would hate to put an afr meter on a standard car with average mileage.

-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
I am in Doncaster if your up ship creek ..
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Easy enough to change big end bearings(thats what it sounds like) just fingers crossed for the other bearings) this will atleast get you running for around £60-70 with an oil and filter change. Its not that difficult to do really. engine needs hoisting up and front engine mount undone then the sump should just about come off.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Once its running keep the pressure down so its just a bit of fun till you build up a spare bottom end. when the times right swap the head over and stick the new engine in :D

cheers tony. basics done but only failed on one thing. he found that the nearside front lower subframe mounting area is excessivley corroded. so need to get it up on the ramps tomorrow to have a good look at what needs to be done.:(
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
That doesn't sound too good :(
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
thats what i thought. cant work out why it has gone so quick. it normally as a rule only comes out in the dry, is kept in the garage and only covered 2500 miles last year and never been a advisory. ill know more tomorrow.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Probably surface rust as the metals really thick where the subframe mounts.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Well i picked up a fresh battery yesterday, old one died after 7years on various cars. Other than the on going carb jetting work with the afr gauge and increasing boost levels, im still ready. Think i might try the cup mod too.

not as bad as i thought. it is in the prescribed area. still pis***d off as it looks like some one has had a jack on the sill and the only time that it could of happened was last time tyres were fitted. should have it all sorted by next week though.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
yeah definetly jacked up wrong :( sills really arent the place for a jack. you can also see how the floors not actually attached to the sills by anything more than seam sealer on the 5 lol. Good opportunity to weld the floor to the sills :D
-

Quadra - New brake upgrade, tyres, wheels. New rad, new front end, new external WG.
Standalone mapped and maybe fit a passenger seat.
Fuego - Rebuild all the brakes, cooling system, paint the bonnet and refit it, service it, and anything else from being sat for (too many) years.
Good job i'm not bringing the 9. I might bring the five though, if I buy it and if I get it roadworthy in time :D, that needs a fuel tank, new injectors and mapping.
No wonder i'm always ****ing poor

Make injector loom,
Fit new reg, inlet and all the other tat,
Mapping for idiots, bit of luck the adaptronic will do some of that.
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
I have to

centralise front wheels in the arches
finalise wishbone ends
rebleed brakes
line up aero filler cap and secure
finish securing buckets
fit new harnesses

Drive it hard
fix anything that breaks
So not a lot really. Shame its sat on my drive in the rain. Might have to relocate to get it all done in time.

Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Well with outstanding project car work and losing a week rebuilding the octavia 4x4 chances of getting the track beast out for this track day are zero :cry:and only needs 2 full days work to finish :sad2:
I do however plan to try and get the 1st VX220 TFSI conversion completed for a shake down if possible - a shed load of work left to do but moving it to my garage at home this week to focus on it between work, farther duties and house stuff after moving in lol
Not helped last night by the fuel pump on the octavia giving up on way from home and loosing the evening which had planned getting my trailer - bloody cars!!!!
So 375bhp high compression direct injection audi s3 lump, 6 speed box, lsd will not be fitted in time and the geo will not be done and or the suspension / brake work needed lol. Sure it will be just fine LOL
But fingers crossed will be out as cant take another year of attending RTOC ND/ track day without a bloody car of my own working :wasntme:

Then just need the rest of the list for the car
Rear window swap
Rear Raider sticker on
Hot air feed
Exhaust heat shield brackets
Dash wiring loom
Raise back end up a bit
replace engine brackets with re-plated ones
Sort out radio to get working
Think thats pretty much it :)

All done bar having the wheels balanced and ESP, ESP i can deal with and the wheels i'll have balanced once they're off the car. Just ordered some 15mm spacers to go on the front just to fill the arches a bit more so the wheels will come off when they arrive hopefully Tuesday/Wednesday :)
Will dig out the camping gear this weekend:
Tent
Inflatable mattress
Sleeping bag
Then check the tools, jack, pump, torque wrench are in order. Charge up the MP3 player, dig out the coolbox for the drinks
Failing that, just bring extra wads of cash or credit card to cover any 'problems' :D

Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Ok so in true RTOC fashion I started the outstanding work on the track beast the weekedn before. Collected the trailer and car which ate half of saturday (started at 6am :coffee:) completed some chores and spent a couple of hrs late in the evening trying to remember what the hell I was doing lol
Spent most of sunday finishing most of the wiring, pipework, start setting up the stack dash and installed the EVC boost controller.
Car starts and drives :agree: although some strange slight metalic grinding from the box that was not there was I drove it last year is present :cry:hope its due to sitting in storage so long but will find out soon enough
So no time to get geo or RR or in fact finish the custom bonnet so its the mad max bonnet (engine sticking out of it lol) and set the boost up on track and hope the rad is upto the job of cooling and everything functioning as it should
Figured I could always tweak it on the day but better to actually get there with it this year was better than a fully finished product
VX220 vag conversion delayed a further 2 weesk now :wasntme:
Really looking forward to coming and need to dig out tent next
So sure I will be busy trying to finish a load of smaller jobs off and 1 big job - make seat which failed in epic style last time

DG
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
No picture received mate.
It'll be good to finally see the track beast in the flesh :agree:
You & Sarah there both nights?
-
Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Did wonder why no relpy
Will have a look but just trying to upload a few cheeky pics :coffee:
Yes going to come up tut north Friday evening after work and dropping young Grier off to nanny day care
Hopefully if I need help to tweak the car will have plenty of time and few likely lads around to help. Been told under no circumstances NOT to track the octavia LOL - fancy some 4 wheel drifting with the new setup but alas it has done 121k and needs to tow the trailer back home so prob for the best :wasntme: in fairness gets abused as it is :smokin:
You there Friday night also sir?

Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
Changed over the rear screen, got in another now with a raider wording on it, looks much nicer on the back and not showing loads of scratches on it now in the window. Just need to find the sticker to put in the back of the window plus sort out a good replica of the more to life with renault.

Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?

Re: Work needed before Renault Turbo Festival?
I know it's there, it's an ok replica, comparing to Steves original rather get closer to that. No offence to his copy as he has got it replicated himself.

Sooooooo she past, just one advisory rear wheel bearing seems to have a little play. Should be ok I reckon...
Didn't get a chance to go for a drive as I ran out of time today, so the trip here should see if it's ok
