Oulton Park trackday, Tuesday 18th November

On the back of a successful Mallory Park ND, here's a bloody good value trackday to squeeze in before the year is out...

Oulton Park trackday, run by the guys at Trackaction-Online ( http://www.trackaction-online.co.uk ), on Tuesday 18th November. Normal list price for the day is £150, but they've kindly offered us a club rate price of £120.

For that price, that's use of the full circuit, open pitlane (and hence no 20 minute sessions :crap: ;)), and free instruction/tuition.

I don't think, as a club, we've been to Oulton before, so here's a perfect opportunity to tick that off the list of UK tracks to drive on.

Hi Fellas

Just a quick hello and intro! I'm one of the Trackaction guys running the day at Oulton Park. We are a trackday enthusiasts forum that this year has started to run some of our own events. In March we started off with a trackday at Cadwell Park..... Paul B making an appearance

Our Oulton trackday should be a great day out, we are limiting numbers to minimise queueing and maximise tracktime and for those who haven't been there it's fair to say that Oulton is one of the best circuits in the country and pretty easy to get to just off the M6 :smokin:.

Anyhow, please post up your names if you'd like to come along or any questions that you have and hopefully we'll get a good showing of RTs at the event :goodJob:

Hhm.. Sounds good. Not too far from me either. Silly question time - Being an 'open pit lane' for the day, does that basically mean we can go on and off track as we please, all day?

Yep, that's exactly what it means. Oulton set a limit on how many cars are allowed on track at any one time and we try to book the right number of cars in to the day to ensure that there is little or no queueing. Usually the only time you might have to wait is straight after lunch if everyone is raring to go or straight after a red lag :crap:, even then it's usually only a few minutes :cool:.

On a good open pit day I've done up to 150 miles on the track so you won't be disappointed :D .

full international circuit?

I still don't know if I am going to this one yet.......

BUT....I want to be trying a drift day now the RS is getting near finished..

i love taking passengers, the car drives much better when 2 up seems more equal in corners.

Forgot to ask what sort of instruction comes free on the day, ie how long, whos car and by who! I deffinitly need the lessons!!!

Instructors will be ARDS licenced Oulton regulars, I work there myself so I'll make sure they are up to scratch!

Typically we run 20 minute instruction sessions where the instructor goes out with you in your car and tells you the best ways to drive it and how to handle some of the trickier corners. Well worth having if you are new to trackdays or haven't been to Oulton before.

This sounds like a good outing , im very interested, adey , you fancy goin up the night before an b+b ing it buddy???:)...;)..:laugh:, looks like a good track, i like the chance of a bit of on hands advice too...:)

Does anybody local(South east/london have an A-Frame i could borrow?

I maybe tempted... also i will ask the committee if we can make Steve H a Honorary Member...

There are plenty of B&Bs etc locally, I can sort a list if anyone needs accomodation.

I will booking a travelodge or b and b the night before so if we could do a group booking somewhere curry and beer perhaps:cool:

Me attending is based on getting my charge cooler fixed and fitted, fix turbo oil leak, new tyres at a min :( so will not know until nearer the time.

If the oil leak is not the return pipe gasket then new turbo / rebuild and will wipe my cash out :(:(:(

I won't be able to make this. Car won't be ready.

Plan to fit my new charge cooler this weekend and have a go at fixing the turbo oil leak. Now on crappy road tyres so may just make it ;)

Kind of want bad weather as it would not be the same in the dry without the R888's :(:(:(

Well fitted the charge cooler tonight and is going like stink! It must of had a boost leak for a while before as it is going better than ever now :D:D:D

Just oil leak to look at tomorrow and may be in a position to go ;)

am afraid im going to miss this 1 but will be on the charge to do more trackdays next year :)

Hi Fellas

Five days to go and we've decided to further reduce the maximum number that we will book for this event to try to guarantee no queueing for the drivers. As a result, there's now only about six places left avaialable so if anyone would like to book please let me know asap!

If spaces do remain, the on-line shop will be open until 8:00pm on Monday and we will sell any last places on the day but without discount.

For those that have booked, we will be sending out an info pack and indemnity forms by email over the weekend, if you haven't received yours by Sunday night please contact Phil on the Trackaction-Online forum.

Sounds like it was very wet indeed this morning but it's drying up and they're having fun :D

Edit: One of Mintys' rear pads has popped out on track and he couldn't find it so he's gone brake pad shopping :laugh:

yeah, just spoken to Jaffa and he says the same, was a bit slippy but almost bone dry now. They are having a great day.
It was more like a 720 spin according to Dunc!

Not long been back from what is a really nice place!! Only shot up for a couple of hours as it was so close (a rare treat). Each of their cars did them proud from what I could see. Dunc did indeed do a 720...ON THE PARADE LAP....:agree::smokin:...Alex's CLS sounds stunning! What a weapon!...Will upload my few pics later on :)...

back, what a great day, shame a few didnt come. last hour was written off for me, the part that the dipstick goes in snaped off lol, ah well bit of a mess under the bonnet but nowt to major. a mate has a few pics and vids will try and get them up later on

JIL is back in the nice warm garage ,a few battle scars and minus a dipstick tube and needing a new rear wheel bearing by the sounds .Was a good day ,but very hairy in the morning session .
At least I span off in anger in the afternoon :o and not on the sighting lap :laugh:to much beans had me on the grass out of Old hall ,360 ,180 back across track ending up pointing the right direction on the other side of Avenue .
Adey was giving it very large all day :smokin: Not sure who or what is in the passenger seat tho:confused: Looks a bit like a Sea Devil

Was giving Adey a bit of banter in the briefing about getting some lessons - look out :D

Road tyres on the vx just dont really work (even when the track dried out) but had my scare at druids after almost catching my tank slap moment it snapped and tried dont lift tech, lift off tech and finnaly brake on the grass - none really worked - just NO grip. Quite a few span there to the point that it was announced that if anyone else span they had to sit out for and hour and get tuition when going back out lol when I came in after the sighting lap they said you may want to take it easy :)

Paul even managed to spin the vag 5 just before it with Neil in the car :D

Finally dried out and changed to my track wheel / tyre setup and different car, spent the rest of the daying getting 6-10mpg only coming in to rest brakes which got worse towards the end of the day :o also out braked myself twice in the day :D

Then when fitting road tyres on at the end the rear pad was half way through the metal, no rear pad left :D cant hear it crying over the exhaust :(

Managed to take most of the gang out

All in all top day other than my brown pants moment

Also have to say VERY impressed with the level of marshalling. Were really good for giving out blue flags and sorting out the packs :cool: not to me though :D

nice pics lomo, looking good, the renault did me proud and held its own very well all day, just been out to spanner check the car in the daylight, needs new front and rear pads and a m10 bold has replaced the snaped off dipstick tube lol

Well this morning I find out my front pads are metal on metal lol - guess what I am doing tonight :D

Also my turbo is leaking oil again this morning but was fine all day on track??? Oh well did not let me down when it mattered.

Don't know about the rest of the gang but I slept like yogi bear last night :D:D:D

New year now mate. Depends upon the weather, but there's a couple I've got my eye on for February time if we're not knee-deep in snow.

Thanks for those comments fellas, our main priorities on an event like this are are a smooth running day with no queues, a friendly atmosphere and plenty of tracktime - I think that we hit most of the marks on this one!

It was a bit lively in the morning when people hadn't realised quite how much we meant it when we said it would be slippy at druids :crap: but as everyone settled in and the line dried out the day just got better and better.

We had a nice variety of kit there...........

I got a few laps in my Pug in the afternoon and thought that everyone seemed very courteous in allowing overtaking etc which I'm sure made the day better for everyone.

We are aiming to do more events next year with the same aims of reasonable cost, friendly atmosphere and maximum tracktime so hopefully we'll see even more of you then.
