RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Ladies and Gentleman, it gives me great pleasure to announce that RTOC will once again be hiring Santa Pod for the full day on Friday 29th May :D
Once again it is a Friday, apologies to anyone who was hoping for it to be on a Saturday, but as explained at the last AGM, we will not be able to afford to hire Santa Pod for a full day on a saturday without charging people upwards of £100 for a ticket. Even if we could afford to subsidise the event to make the price more affordable for members Santa Pod do not have a free Saturday available any where between end of March and end of September.
Price and ticket information to follow shortly (expect tickets to be around the same as last year- £60) with tickets available to buy in the club shop from early next year.
We do intend to invite other car clubs this year, but i can not see the total number of cars running on the day been above 100, meaning there really will be NO waiting around in queues. So like last year, it'll be a case of you been able to do as many runs as you like, i think the record was 72 last year if anyone fancies trying to beat it.
Watch this space for further info...............
Buy your track tickets here:
https://www.rtoc.org/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22&products _id=62
and MEMBERS ONLY can access the discount code to get the price down to £60 here:

Nope, ND2009 will be at Mallory Park :)
I know when it is, but i dont want to step on Mr Millers toes, ill let him make the announcement on that one when he's finilised all the details.
As for the AGM minutes, erm no. But as it only lasted about 46 seconds im sure it wouldn't take much for us to knock some up and get them posted.

Anything and anyone can run this year. We haven't decided on prices yet 'cos there is the camping/day after ticket issue to sort out with Pod, but it'll be cheaper for members to run and camp than it will be for non members, by £25 or so ;)
Ticket prices and details to be announced asap. For sale in the club shop soon after :)
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Cool i'm comin!!!! i can run my sunny, better bring a spare gearbox! :D

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Do members of the caravan club get there normal 15% discount for this event? :ashamed:
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
We are putting a different price structure in place for this event this year. Last year we had about 5 different tickets for sale and it got a bit confusing. This year we are keeping it simple, and made it a LOT cheaper for members :D
It'll break down as-
Entry- Free for all.
Track time-
Non members- to be confirmed, probably £80.
This year the price to run on the strip for members will be on an advance price basis, the sooner you buy your ticket the cheaper it will be. A discount code system will be used for members, more info to follow shortly but prices will work out as-
from 1st March- 31st March- £50.
from 1st April-30th April- £55
from 1st May-22nd May- £60
on the day £65 (if they are not sold out)
Camping- to be confirmed (around £5 per person, maybe a bit more if we have to buy tickets for an event on the saturday like last year) - payable on the day.
Tickets for sale in the club shop from 1st March, get them early while they are cheap.
Rob, caravan club? wtf?? :)

They do keep changing it so may be 100 now, i know last year it was 110 at some events i went....
Stu, yeah if your a member in the caravan club santa pod offer discount for weekend events + camping...:) not like i do it or anything :cooter:
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
I now have the tickets so will start posting them out to those who have ordered .
The members discount rate is still £30 off the listed price in the shop .You need to enter the POD discount code to receive this .This will be valid till 31/3/09
The discount amount will be £25 next month and £20 in May until the event .
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Only 2 days left to get your tickets for £50. From 1st April they will be £55 for unlimited runs.
A few tickets have sold already but not enough! Get 'em while they're cheap. I want us to be booking another 50 places ontop of the 50 we've booked already. 100 cars running will make it a really cracking day.
Come on folks, it's an exellent oppertunity for anyone who's always fancied a go at the 1/4 mile to have unlimited pressure free runs on the best strip in the UK. No worries if you fluff the start, or miss a gear, just go back and try again.
Some might be thinking, hmmm...£50 for unlimited runs, but i only want to do 3 or 4. Trust me, once you've done a few, and got the bug for knocking 0.1 secs off your best you'll be stripping your interior out and thinking unlimited runs are not enough!!
Im also sorting out with pod a more suitable camping area than last year, so we can have all the fun we want on Friday night ;) :D

Make more?!? we have no interest in making money. Every event we attend costs the club money, we aim to break even on most tickets sales (but never do), and heavily subsidise big events like this and ND.
It is costing the club £72.58 for every person that signs on, because as ive said too many times (so this is the last) we have paid just over £3500 for 50 places, so if we sell you, and 49 other people a place (and yes 1 run class as a place) for £5 the club losses £3250. Not really a healthy return is it fella?

sorry dude, I didn't mean make money, but more like take more money to recoup costs. I see your point above. just a thought thats all.
if you sold individual runs at £10 it would still make sense to me. Most people would think "sod that i can get unlimited for £50" but the others who wouldn't buy tickets because of not wanting to do loads of runs would stretch to a £10 or £20 for a couple of runs? maybe you should do a poll to gauge interest. I maybe I should shut my mouth, I imagine organising something like this is a real pain in the ass........never mind numpties like me making it more complicated.
Good work :agree:
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Basically they are allowed 50 cars on the track and thats it. It doesn't matter if a car only does 1 run its still classed as one of the 50 cars.

To be fair mate, if you went along to your usual RWYB/Fast Show/RetroShow/USC type santa pod event you pay £10 or £15 entry and £25 for 4 runs (at the most). So the £50 we (were) asking for a ticket is only £10 more, but you get as many runs as you like and zero queues. Okay we aint got the NUTS girls wandering around in fishnet tights, but on the flip side you dont have to look at loads of plastic/filler covered jap cars and pugs :disagree:

Fit smaller hubs for new wheels!

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Well it's getting close and caught up with Mart this morning regarding the low down :D
Def coming and hope to have sorted my slight oil leak issue and flames lol
I will be there 1st thing and going back home in the afternoon to pick up the girlfriend and back for more racing and be camping overnight.
Glad to see most of the gang are still coming - Shop Boy get your arse there, who's car will I steel if I need to do another pit stop for new tyres :D in fact could do with stealing it to pick Sarah up :P save me £15 in fuel
Really could do with someone bringing my spare rear wheels / tyres as I am sure the cut slicks will burn the clutch out and may be better to run road tyres and brake traction to give the clutch a better time?
Hope the weather is good and really looking forward to a day off work in the sun with friends doing what I love best - playing with cars.......
DG

There is no age restrictions, baby's and toddlers are welcome (just remember you are the responsible adult) warn your parents that camping is a relaxed/party like nature... ie: bon fire's/BBQ's, drinking, loud talking/laughter and always some annoying c*nts with bigfeet who thinks its funny to take your pole's out of your tent.... (not pointing to Bigfoot or Dunc G :D)
But i am sure your 15 year old bro will enjoy it and be made welcome!

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
not 100% sure ill be able to make it yet but ive just booked thurs and fri off work, cars back to AVA on thurs to get that boost issue sorted ,if all goes well ill drive down through the night .
Will i be able to pay at the gate on the day ? i paid upfront for natday weekend track and camp tickets last year for 2 peeps and had to pull out week before so lost my cash which was pretty dissapointing seeing as Miller(never answer pms) told me id get it back :crap: still waiting !!!
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
You can pay on the day Mud .
Just need to seek me or A N Other CM out :agree:
My mobile ( for anyone wanting to sort out last minute passes etc )
07974 493002
Tomorrow realistically is the last chance to get them in the post but I will have a list of those sold so I would suggest all those wanting tickets now pay online or on the day and I'll keep record and the ticket for the day .
Please could anyone that flogs their ticket on let me know who he/she :agree:
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009

Id buy one now but Ive updated my paypal details and im waiting for the 4 digi num to get back to me...can I not just have it...for £60 at the gate ? pretty...PRETTY please :cooter:
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
As clee says, £60 in the shop, £65 on the gate, 1st come first served.
We cant be keeping tickets aside for people when others will be turning up with cash in hand waiting to buy. What if the person they are been held for doesn't turn up, the club losses £65. Not an issue if we'd have sold 50+ tickets and booked another 50, 'cos then the club would be starting to break even. As it is we stand to lose well over a grand.
Everyone has had the chance to buy them for over 3 months now, soz, but deems the rules :)

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Well after developing a strange boost leak / recirc issue
I booked the day off work and after 11hrs of pain I found the issue to be the turbo :( not the boost system, solinoids, wiring, ECU, recirc, exhaust, wastegate, actuator, to name a few :D
Oh the joys of the vx when it goes wrong :(
So at the moment no car and in lots and lots of bits, in Bracknell (work) all day tomorrow but managed to talk Andy (director) at AET to let me turn up 1st thing thu morning and strip (bit more machine work :P) rebuild (FOC as well) then back home and approx 5hrs to put it all back together and hope the problem has gone away.
Then pack and go pod fri morning - look out
Hope I can get it all done intime or I will just get pished and enjoy the day.........
Oh and need to get my R888's fitted, geo and fix soft top or will be with hard top and cannot fit a helmet on with that and with roof off they want me to use arm straps
Still looking forward to it
DG

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Skip the geo ...you is going in a straight line innit
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Wasn't that a new turbo you fitted?
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Your luck's improving then Duncan! :crap: :(
If you want a hand on Friday morning, give me a shout mate :agree:
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
What's wrong with it, out of curiosity, and what turbo is it?
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Thanks for the offer Mart, at this rate it may be a put together friday morning :( but better than coming in the disel of doom I guess :D
Adam it is a hybrid VXR turbo - std VXR manifold with a bit of machining to the ports / open the wastegate penny. Compressor side gets machined and K06 wheel with different blade design / 360 thrust bearing (std vxr bearing is made from choc and hates to run 23psi :P) oh and the cold side intake and oulet get machined out and smoothed etc
Should have found the extra and stuck a GT28rs on there!
Not sure how but the recirc is built into the turbo on the vxr turbo and the flat area the diaphram sites on has worn (not sure how) so it is not flat causing the leak even when the recir is closed
Also got an oil leak from the core so all in all bit of a FAIL :D Andy has been great about it and said the rebuild will be free and let me work with the guys doing it to see it for myself :)
Steve yeah only a few K on it, not sure of reason for fail yet.
DG
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
The VXR runs a 360 thrust bearing as standard, like every turbo nowadays, i've never seen an ''uprated'' one available. Have you tried just blanking off the recirc valve, like quite a few others that we've built have done?

Std bearing is made of choc choc :D
There was a write up details below - enjoy the read ;) there are 2 versions of uprated VXR K04 units - AET and Regal

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
I still don't see any ''uprated'' parts;)
I know where that bearing comes from, it's just a standard one. But granted, the ones used on the K04 from factory are pretty pathetic.

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009

We're going old school this year and getting a disposable BBQ so we can poison ourselves with uncooked food
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Well at AET turbo's in their office using LAN :D - no wireless lol
Looked like overspooling has caused the intake wheel fins to bent (overheated)causing the boost leak sound and pressure drop. Bit of wear on the bearing but hard to know which went 1st?
Currently getting the intake cast machined and flowed before the turbo gets rebuilt
No heat issues on the manifold side :)
We think the 58mm intake pipe to charge cooler and CC intake size is a restriction and may be contributing to the build up of heat at the new power it is running, noooooo time today to start welding stuff and making custom pipes lol. Also think the paper air filter is an issue as I found some paper mush in the core entrance which I can only work out came from there and and contributed to the restriction.
Time to go 2.5" from turbo to throttle body, may gain 100rpm lag but should gain more top end.
Oh it never ends..........................but hope to be there tomorrow

Woa is ye! You'll be alright tomorrow morning mate, all re-energised & looking forward to getting it all back in one piece! ;)
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
All back together now, managed to cause it not to go in reverse, managed to spin the ramp under the wheel :ashamed: but lucky no damage, and from what it looks the major oil leak is not there anymore, touch wood. Now just need to reload windows on a laptop with a serial connector, and pack for tomorrow. Should be there around 10ish I guess.

haha nah man, she enjoys the car stuff, and i dont mean enjoys is as in, can put up with it, she actually really does. Although a face full of petrol after the 205 decided to blow off a fuel hose today didnt go down quite so well :ashamed:. Besides its not the case, as of a car show with strip clubs, and random skanks walking around with there boobs n arse's resembling cliff faces hanging out.
Its cool j8tro, i had problems with the car but i know the way to pod, pretty well now with or without satnav, so was a steady drive down for me :P

Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Me and the missus really enjoyed the day, she met more people than me I think :D
I loved raping the 172 all day long, which in the end managed a respectable 14.9 @ 92 mph :smokin: ( the only 172 there I think, wearing the white Willys of course ;) )
It was really good to see a load of old faces and meet a few new ones too :)
I loved the Backyard Civic, consistently quick all day! Stu Clark trapping at 125mph, that car was not hanging about :agree:
So many well prepped cars running very good times!
Can't wait for the ND now, the 172 and my GTT will be out on the track :cooter:
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Yeah quality day and camping. Good to meet some new members + the usual faces
The std ph1 managed a 15 second dead which i was pretty happy with. Cheers to Brigsy for afew runs in the van........Awesome :D;)
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Awesome day :D and even better camping :smokin: and those that stuck around on saturday for the rwyb saw some good action (that 7.4 @193mph bike was just insane) plus they had chance to get even more sunburnt as they sobbered up
Good(ish) turnout of members, more next year please :D but all in all i'd say it was more of a sucess than last year.
Only down point for me was the clutch cable snapping on the phase1 5miles away from Pod on the way home, AA to the rescue (cheers jaf).
I managed 51 runs all day, 28 in the phase1, and 23 in the 5lag. (std phase1 did 15.42 on uniroyals. 5lag.....needs some more work  )
But £1 a run aint bad value really!! :agree:
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
What a weekend, loads of super quick fives and some nice looking ones too.Had to take my hat off to the backyard lads with their mighty impressive civic always in the 11's and even ran it the next day with what I saw was a 11.1 best:eek: . Massive thanks to all those who sorted the event, also a massive thanks to mike and tony for the beer, laughs, food and putting up with my drunken antics:D Kris M and Jesus, loved the phase one congac got me truly battered, although stu thc and myself have the bragging rights of the last two standing at the end of the night:laugh: Only thing that pissed me off the whole weekend was my lm-1, I knew I had the fuel for 25psi+ but could not trust it so ran with 20-21psi. Still not to shabby though this being my first event and best I ran an13.47 on road tyres with 104.5:)

As always its nice to see so many fives in the same place! Loving the slammed phase ones they were quality! I took alot of videos so will post a link when i get them on youtube.
Big well done to the backyard lads with the civic some cracking times for the first run out! Unfortunately for me I broke the Mini. I have managed to break every tooth off the pinion gear and the crown wheel is a little worse for wear :sad2: So i had to have a few runs in my trusty Renault :wasntme:

:innocent::innocent::innocent:
Ok so it goes something like this.......
Saturday morning Millie & I are packing away our campsite & Krissy M blags the use of our cooker to heat up a couple of burglers for breakfast.
After he polished them off he helped us tidy up the site & I had a quick nip round just putting a few things in the bin & picking odds & sods up
When we get home were surprised to find a nice new bottle of JD Spicy BBQ sauce buried deep in our camping gear :ashamed:
I think it may have been old Light fingered Krissy M who pilfered the sauce but we certainly had no rolls or sweets.
I'll post you this sauce back in an envelope if you like!? :D
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
 Steve, don't worry about it, mate.
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
It's like camping on a pikey site, I tell ya!
Might cope without the sauce...maybe, lol
I was digging through the boot of the car for about 15 mins on Saturday looking for my sweeties lol. I treated myself to a Maccy D's instead.

Still chuckling to myself now at the point we realised it was Stuart Clarke & his mate sat with us at the hobo fire! "Oh YOU'RE Stuart Clarke"
Excellent organisation from Miller, StuTHC & all the other Committee membered involved as usual, thanks guys i do appreciate all you do! :niceone:

:agree: I have to agree about a top event, I was lucky enough to spend the night with a bloke who's 5's been on 5th Gear, a c1j'd powered 5 owner who has crossed the 1/4 mile atm 125mph, a man who has his own smily :mart:, some t*sser who has a plastic toy car!
Miller's abuse on Mart was funny, i was chuckling to myself in bed, was waiting for mart to chase Adam L across the field but it never happened!
-
Re: RTOC @ Santa Pod, 29th May 2009
Top top weekend, as is the norm' with all rtoc events :) Nice to hook up with everyone again, and to meet a few new faces, good turn-out for a working day, laughs a-plenty, and fantastic weather all weekend to boot.
Hope to see everyone again at RWS weekend and/or ND :agree:

I have litterally just laughed out loud. What a classic moment in my life, i was just sat supping my bottle of export when we were asked who we were, my mate Mark pronounced his alcoholism and when asked my name, my status around the fire seemed to be boosted, quite surreal, proper funny.
The reason i dont know anyones name is cos on the boards everyone has an aka and it confuses the hell out of me (i must be old.....)
I think we should all have our name displayed and a nice cheesy pic of your self to help us simpletons, lol.
Seriously, thanks for the support and the free beers:agree: i had a great weekend and have loads of good ideas to go forward, maybe next time i will recognise a few more faces;)

Seriously, thanks for the support and the free beers:agree: i had a great weekend and have loads of good ideas to go forward, maybe next time i will recognise a few more faces;)
