too much clutter imo
Just keep it to the 4 line rule.
some are funny, 1 in a 1000 maybe...
they just spam the place up, traders spam threads with there sites etc, one used to type there in after each post for a while if i remember right.. ghey.
i dont see them ever turning up on the rtoc as 99.38467564% of members aren't interested..
I dont think RTOC will ever have Sig's, alot of people dont like them... there nomally abused, spammed, advertising etc...
I've never really seen spamming and junk advertising in signatures in many of the forums I've posted in, but IF it was a main concern, it wouldn't take much to put a rule in place to stop advertising.
With car enthusiasts, you usually just get the odd picture of the person posting's car with their user name styled into the pic. I think it can look quite cool and a bit more personalised. Other signatures are mainly random favourite quotes in general and also people who take funny quotes from other users.
Signatures are the way forward, imo.
This has been bought up several times over the years, and it gets shot down every time, thankfully!
The majority of members like these boards for their simplicity to read (whether that's because this site's full of old farts, who knows?) Yes, a picture signature might look good, once! When it starts appearing after every single post from that person it gets boring, and repetitive.
When people use writing, and quotes in their signatures, you can sometimes find yourself hunting for the actual posts when reading threads.
We've got avatars for pictures, and the status updates if you feel the need to quote something. Imo, that's enough.
YOU OLD FART!!!
:D:D
Oh well, I wouldn't lose sleep over it if it didn't happen. I can appreciate simplicity. :)
Sh!t... now I'm feeling like an old fart. 30 is creeping up... well, give it 2 years anyway.
:D
Personally, if i'd want to see a members car, i'd look in their profile.
If I want to see ****y photoshop skills, i'll look on barryboys.
How do you 'borrow' side decals?!
Nope, but I found the blood-stained Tricky bandage in the garage a few weeks back... probably still there
Tricky saved my life :sos:
signatures are all a bit style over content don't you think ? they serve no intellectual service and won't exist on this site for as long as I maintain it. they munch bandwidth, space in the database, would ruin the live window and mean that you have to wade your way though BS everytime you want to find information in a thread.
I just find it all a bit worn out..... maybe I could handle a "fail" where it's due.... for example: me calling you illiterate because my girlfriend's computer spell checker is American (she is) when actually it turned out to me that was being a burke. That's a fail. Having an opinion isn't.
'Fail' is one of those social diseases that Mart picked up on a dodgy American website
 Exactly. As I said, it's just a bit of banter. We're all chums here :)
Signatures just seem to be a show piece in my honest opinion.
"Oooh look at my computer skills, I can show you what IP address you're on and what web browser you are using, I'm so clever!"
That, my friends, is a WALLOP of FAIL!
I still remember the days when peeps complained that having the option to post pictures on forums would 'clutter' and ruin the very world we live in today.
Pfft... :crap::D
But so often they do, take a look in the general chat forum, full of crap.
The old forum worked great without pictures, I prefered it, there was a better atmosphere and people bothered to try and convey meaning through word and punctuation rarther than idiotic jpegs. Pictures on this forum really only came around because the temporary forum I hosted while this site was under construction allowed images and it seemed that the pro's outweighed the con's when it came to technical matters.
What can I say... people hate change. :D I think the pros also outweight the cons with the for sale section and posting pics of your car.
No one can be bothered to click on a list of links.
Steady Eddy, I was only making a joke.
Wow, talk about (still) trying to flog a dead horse.
Signatures aren't going to happen on here. Period. Can we leave it there now, and let this thread disappear into the yonder.
bump
Not really. I was just replying to UNICRONICUS's post when Scoff joined in and started throwing toys out of his pram...
Yeah, I'm all up for that. In hindsight, I would have stayed clear of this section of the forum if I knew how touchy things were when raising a suggestion. :niceone:Quote:

Firstly, I wasn't making fun of your opinion. I was actually trying to come across as 'non-confrontational' with the big grin. You throwing that in my face and tempting me into replying whether or not I thought you were being stupid was throwing your toys out of the pram, plain and simple.
What cocky gestures have I made?? So far, I started a thread related to "feedback" in the feedback section of the forum, got hounded and simply replied to people who had someone to say about it.
tomorrow is going to be interesting
. some funny remarks in this thread some are not so funny
for me the site is working well and just how most peeps like it
the site does alow pickys and web links . but no sigs
i could put a sig at the bottom of each post but i would have to insert it myself .
no way would i agrea to an auto sig
