my new intercooler :cooter:
Where are you going to put it? I take it your going to cut the cross member?
Bit small dont you think ...
I guess your gonna have to heavily modify your front bumper to fit that. I'm just in the process of fitting a modded 2wd cossie cooler and it fits behind the std bumper with little or no mods. You can pick them up for next to nothing. Think mines was £15! It gives a good improvement and allows room to move your air filter to the front of your car. Result in my books
Someones got one for sale in the classifieds at the moment
im going to be using this 1 on mine my kids got it for my birthday and i dont need to cut the bumper

Mine fits in the grill area too.
You would have to ask gtmatt where he got it from though.
Heres the cooler on my tungy

Dave
Dont suppose you want a spare front bumper for FREE ? its in white bump strips removed , as are the bottom slats. fog holes still intack Slight crack at the bottom of the bumper near the towing eye cover ,
Yours if you can make use of it . Pick up only though :agree:
anything free is goodmate.
but tbh a standard bumper just dont fit.
im sure another member would benefit more from yr offer mate
but thank u any way
ill post a pik in the week of how much is left of mine.
and its not alot
No problems Dave , Think Penfolds taken me up on the offer !
just a quick one...
looks like most of the big ones are bar and plate? are they 'glued' like the forge jobbies, or are they so big it doesn't matter. the leading edge of the tubes looks flat on pretty much all of the big ones, surely that wont let the air pass through smoothly, or am i just talking jibber jabber?!
Ah sod it i'm going to stick a pic of mine up again! :D;)
didn't they do a bigger one mark?

Which is fitted to another members car with standard front bumper now
My Intercooler is a little smaller to Blicks but involved no cutting of the 5 just a few drilled holes to hold it in place and I can still fit the OE grill again no cutting was required but I did have to change to a campus pulley and belt along with shortening the top alt arm support this was really due to the size of my boost hoses and my boost pipe run (routed like this to avoid the HT leads).
OE Grill Off

Grill in place

Top rad support bracket now a nice Pro Alloy jobby seem's to do the job nicely

Pipe run routing

very tidy
Subtle but seems to do the job :)

I think you have the pics the wrong way round..
It looks very neat..sits nicley in place
how much psi can that i/c handle? and what is the flow like as it enters and exits?
I've always wonder how much affect it would have using lower performance parts.. albeit larger intercoolers - it just looks quite a sharp turn into the intercooler. I remeber reading an article and it stressing the importance of keeping things smooth..
Heres my new set up in the raider, probabley not the best for charge temps but keeps the front end o.e
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...3022010263.jpg
Is that the pro alloy cooler?
I don't know anyone whos run one before so couldn't say is it was a good or poo!
Ok not as big as some of the lads coolers on this thread, but still quite big and keeps stock looks. So thats a Win Win in my mind. :D
The Ford boys seem to love these coolers on there mk 3/4 Escort's and mk3 Feista RS.
so wats the advantages having efi apart from not getting carb freeze and is it expensive to have fitted.
cooling is a function of the size of the IC and the air flow across it
The only Hi Flow Low volume Intercooler out there

Looks really functional that set up, just a shame about the hole in the bonnet it make it work so well. You must get some good act from it. :)
Russell good solution, nice and neat ;)
Good clean air flow been a bit higher as well, I vented the front of my bonnet in that area on the vag 5 and even this without the cowling / ducting made a difference. The stamped bonnets look good in the usual areas they get done but not very functional when driving due to high / low air pressure and can go against the way the 5 engine bay cools - nice to have in traffic but not much else

what are peoples opinions when you cut the front cross member out to fit a intercooler..
Sorry to revive a whole topic, but surely better than starting fresh.
just cut it, weaken or not if you have a frontal in a r5 your pretty much dead anyway
a smaller fmic is maybe not as effective as a larger cooler but no cutting is nesersary
