Jonny, come on ffs!!! Get some decent photos!:D
that looks lovely, but please change the wheels. :)
Ive got standard speedlines too but the voodoos are staying i like them :p
Thanks :) Ive got o.e side graphics going back on sometime this week an many many jobs still to do.
hmmm , straight r5... mmm fresh tungy grey paint.... is it wrong im now nursing a semi..
Well done, just be carefull putting it back together not to scratch it.. hats off to the painter :)
Yeah the paint is like glass no orange peel or overspray anywhere and it was only away for just over 2 weeks. Feels odd knowing its 100% rust free tho,i will update the thread as i carry on to build her back up.
is it going to be 100% oe
No about 80% :) but looks wise will try to be apart from exhaust an alloys both of which may change in the future.
Looks well mate, fresh paint
Thanks benj88 your car has been the benchmark for what i was aiming for when sorting the bodywork for panel gaps an finish etc..
cheers mate :agree:
nice paint job mate :)
New poster! (less than 10 posts)

https://s26.postimg.cc/vdnpuiug9/6c5b4185.jpg
looking very good! just out of interest how much did you pay for a full respray?
From what I can make out does look good matey, but you really need a decent camera :agree:
Its an i phone camera just quick an easy to get pics up will get more pics up when i get chance.
nice one mate, guna get my bumper repainted like, gota few stone chips now :sad2:
how much did you get charged for the front bumper?
Im not too sure mate coz im havin all the plastics an kit sprayed as part of the respray price. My dad spent hours sorting the front bumper out fibreglassing and filling sections to get it back from almost fit for the bin. With yours bein just stonechipped would think max 200 for a top notch job.
Opinions please! I have Gt tuning alloy exhaust heatshield.Do i fit it or keep the bumper lookin clean an o.e im personally not feeling the idea now the bumpers are all back an minty ???
Keep it looking o.e fresh:)

The paint work looks excellent, have you had the red gtturbo badge painted as well? Is it mat or gloss red I can't tell, she's guna look mint. What wheels will you be goin for?
The badges are just brand new from Renault, satin finish.
Its on voodoos now but have original speedlines too but need four new tyres.
Thanks for all the comments guys.
Looks lovely, well jealous. :)
what did you do with your rear GT Turbo badge, did you have it painted or was it an original mint one ?
As above mate
Did you take the windows out or let the panel beaters do it?
where did you get the boot badges from m8 ? nice 5 also :) :agree: just had mine sprayed in tungy too
I bought the badges new about 5 years ago when i started the project an had them stored till it was sprayed. Yeah me an my dad removed everything ourselves.
mmmm, this project makes me want to pull my finger out and get my r5 in fresh paint.

GTT exterior styling lesson: Tungy, OE, lowered 35-40mm on nice 15" wheels and a decent exhaust.
Who needs anything else? :agree: :)
^^ True in every way ^^
Had a few teething problems since mot, needed a new driveshaft which was not changed during rebuild anyway and wheel bearing after only 60 miles, lesson learned "just cause its new, dont mean it aint broke!"
Pic today after wash an polish.

:eek::eek:I needs a towel...She is spot on fella:worship:;)
Top job mate! really making me get mine finished!!!!1:):agree:
Hi all, been a while since i updated this thread but not much gone on really.
The car was off the road for 6weeks early summer due to the dreaded mayo appearing in the headertank. This was eventually tracked down to a cracked head and no washers on the headbolts causing the head to lift under boost. This down time happened just at same time as our national day an FCS so was pretty gutted.
So new head fitted etc, all new samco coolant hoses, fresh header tank and an ebay bargain forge alloy lobster later, shes nearly done! Im after a set of 50mm springs for the front to drop it down a touch more then ill be happy......maybe :).
A few pictures from a drive out tonight.

My Dad has also moulded a Pillar pod for my gauges.
https://s26.postimg.cc/a1u022end/a313a1e2.jpg
So looking to forward getting it back on the road and meeting everyone at this years National Day. I'll have an update in the next few weeks!
Looking forward to hopefully seeing this one some time maybe at nd, wot make is the new exhaust system?
Will be at National Day and FCS at Donington Park mate. Will be good to put faces to usernames.
Exhaust is of unknown make, but identical to the Scorpion thats still on the car apart from tailpipe size.
My old springs came up well!
Just a quick Update.
My Dad got round to finishing off the A pillar pod for the new gauges, really pleased with the result. O.E + :agree:
https://s26.postimg.cc/ofxdtt0h5/39e2eeb1.jpg
that pillar looks awesome, would you fancy doing a little guide on how to do them? :)
looks fantastic :D
Thanks Tony i cant take any credit tho its my dad that has spent all his spare time fabricating it. Ill try and get some pics and words together to make a brief "how to" guide.
Looks really fresh! only thing i dont like is those wheels! but each to there own!
Good job!:)

Very nice well done, nice and clean under the bonnet as well:agree:
Lovely! will look better with the 3inch exit on it, and get it sitting in the bumper better, old one looks like its dragging on floor almost
Cheers for comments yeah its was nice to push her out for the first time this year.
Just exhaust to swap now which im having real trouble with :(
Struggling to get the new system to fit properly, will have a proper go wed and then all being well MOT fri.
Yes sir, one of the best cars in the club. :agree:
I would grind off the rolled out lip on that back box.
Like on my old motor :D

Pics after fitting new exhaust. Pleased with how tight i got it to the body underneath too.
Had a ride out tonight in the 5 as the weather finally manage to settle. Nothing to report really, cars running lovely and feeling stronger and smoother the more miles i put on her.
Nearly done a 1000 miles since rebuild so time for a little more boost and a carb tune up using the afr gauge.
Purchased an O.E Pioneer tape player off Brigsy tonight too so will get that fitted next week!

Looks well mate. New exhaust looks miles better!
Where was the exhaust from mate?
Car looks great btw.
looks nice buddy wish mine was done now lol
Looks amazing fella, was keepin tabs on yours while doing mine,it really has inspired me to crack on with it,lol not long now:)
Got it bk home all fitted up. Just on the engine build side of things now. Torsion tuning getting stuck into it at end of the month, just waiting on head bolts carb kit, hose set and rad now, will update mine soon, lol it's nice when it's all paid off after the amount work we put into them.lol I just want to drive the poxy thing now.lol:D
Had a quick hour on the car this afternoon. Finally sorted the idle afr to 13/14's with a new carb base gasket and a cleaning out of the idle jet. Got the new stereo fitted too :)
https://s26.postimg.cc/myce1mco9/12717b9e.jpg
I need to get my carpet like that, looks really well especially with retro stereo - Ive just taken the pioneer out of mine in favour of a sony cd player. I cant be doing with tapes!
I used a pressure washer and some carpet shampoo. It even needed a soft wire brush in some bad areas, takes ages to dry tho! I hope you have put your pioneer into storage. I wouldnt have wanted to remove one from a car as original and un touched as your new one, but i do understand about tapes tho if its your daily :agree:
Fantastic car you have here mate, and love the touches like original stereo ;) plus I see you got a little section in PFCM
Looks sweet Jonny. Uber jealous of your interior! O.e gear knob ftw
Hmm could be an original then (model no is KEH-2430B) Instructions though are dated 1991. I took it out ok all nice and neatly plus tidied up all the wires - owner of mine didnt take up the option of rear speakers. Although wiring is there but with cardboard inserts where the speakers go!
Cars coming on ok, I need to really take all the interior out and give it a really good clean to the standards of my last R5. Then replace the parts that need attention (which is very little). What is great on this new R5 is how all the switches light up as they should etc :)
Glad you like the springs - I couldnt get on with them and called the car at the time the boneshaker! Jon sorted that with some -30mm springs which made the ride much better!
Was you running just on lowering springs or the uprated shocks too?
I cant tell much difference in ride quality between 35mm and 50mm springs on my apex shocks if im honest.
Im sure it wont take you long to sort the new car out if your last resto is anything to go by.
Sorry bud i should of said, it came through the post and its not on the shelves yet. Couldn't but took a pic instead :)
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...0/IMG_0825.jpg
Thanks mate. They could have took the time to correct the errors and punctuation mistakes from my email. The spec sheet is just a cut and paste from my profile off here! Ah well cant complain :D
You be buying a copy of magazine make sure you keep it safe. I had a featured escort some years back and lent or lost all copies. Nice feature mate, one to tell your kid about when she grows up.
Lovely stuff:) the thing I love about these motors is the respect u get from the older generation etc, people who had them new etc, and was out in me mates pearl white one one time, driving thru town on a sunny day, windows down, caught up in a bit of traffic, we see a fella cutting trees with his young- ish son and said to him, " look at that boy, I had one of those, it's was the bollocks":wasntme: lol we laughed. Still respected today. Good times.
Ive had my 5 about a month now and ive had loads of people my dads age saying. I used to have one of these lol. Or this was my dream car when i was your age! Does this make me cool? lol :wasntme:
I remember an old buying guide article that was in the back of a copy of Redline or Max Power magazine from probably 10years ago,it was before i could even drive. I thought the last line of it summed up the 5GTT perfectly,
"Make sure you own or drive one before you die"
:)
that bodywork looks seriously straight, got a few bits to touch up on mine but seeing that makes me just want to get mine fully sprayed
Awesome weather so far this weekend. Had a whole day putting more miles on. More driving to come tomorrow.

Wow, that paintwork is flawless ! :):agree:
Love it!
Had a bit of a tidy up of the engine bay this afternoon. Finally got round to doing the cup mod and tweaking the fuelling further too. Getting near enough flat 12s at WOT now so quite pleased and she pulls like a train in any gear!
https://s26.postimg.cc/qogm89dwp/d1e2b235.jpg
Loving the light nights, cheeky pic from last nights ride out. Car is filthy!
https://s26.postimg.cc/9cg9mtkfd/10958fab.jpg
Cars been running good for a while now. Its set at roughly 15psi but the standard actuator is struggling and doesnt seem to hold it well.
So i've purchased an Ebay bargain used -31 actuator off a saph cos for £10! Im waiting for it to turn up so i can fit it this weekend. Then aiming to hold 17psi ish, maybe more if the fuelling allows and det stays away :)
With the car getting used more, obviously it was getting dirty. So i asked for an Autobrite Snowfoam Lance for my birthday off my parents :D

Congratulations on your win!:) After all the work you've put into this car i'm glad it got recognised.
Wish I could have got up to see it and meet everyone, next year I hope!
Tidy engine bay chap. Lovely car. Bravo fella
That looks awesome, my 5 could really do with a respray... These type of posts are bank account wreckers for me... :-)
Well the car won best bodywork and paint at the show and shine at ND yesterday.
To me and my dad it was the end result after a father and son restoration that took 7 years and started with a £300 car.

:agree:
Personally I thought your car deserved the award, I thought the paintwork/bodywork was absolutely pristine and overall looked excellent. :agree:
It's been an awesome thread, thanks for taking the time to put the updates on here :)
Btw, if you decide to break, I am building a make-shift shed at home. I'll have the doors to use as the corrugated roof
:sad2:
Why would anyone want to slate this car:confused: i personally think this is one of my favorites on this forum:cool: and the wheels are a big plus for me, wolfrace voodoos i think. Top work and i hope you keep updating your thread.
Congratulations on your medal too :niceone:
I really like your car mine is a tungy aswell which i am restoreing and for me your car is the bench mark you and your dad should be really proud
Very well done mate.. There were a number of very very clean r5s there.. but.. i have a very good idea for well layed/afterpreped paint and ive said from day one the paint on this r5 is of a very high standard and it does show. Well done matey
lol unfortunatly not dude , my problem is i get to itchy , and drive the cars to much to ever have them quite that clean lol, but i do try :cooter:,
cars that impressed me in the show and shine were yours, james surridges as that thing is always so damn cleanand black and the red r5 owned by the french, very clean cars and pin sharp straight.
thoroughly deserved imo, the effort and time thats gone into the car on a budget and the result is great, it had the wow factor for me
wheels are marmite though and i hate!lol! used to have them in 17" on my first valver until i saw the light!!
Thank you :agree: Was good to meet you mate. Did you get on the rolling road with your dirty tyres ;) I have already seen the light regarding the alloys lol but its all money! I want to get the standard speedlines back on but they all need tyres and i simply cant afford that luxury at the moment with a 3 year old and one on the way
Absolutely quality car my friend. Very Impressed.
If my car is 50% of what yours is when finished, I will be a very happy man. :)
Well done mate, it was a very tidy 5, that you can see a lot of time and effort has been put into it. :agree:
Ignore certain comments off bitter people who think they are the db's:mad:
Well done mate :agree: wish I came. Il try and make it to next years
Well i wasnt going to update this thread anymore, but i guess no restoration is ever completely finished :)
So...managed to get hold of a set of standard speedlines with really good correct size tyres off Leebourner :agree:
https://s26.postimg.cc/jqh3g2561/27fe93f8.jpg
Really pleased with them :D
I also seem to be having photobucket issues at the moment  Ive sorted a new account so all my other pics will be back soon.
Say what?
http://naimalett.com/wp-content/uplo...12/02/what.jpg
good man.. !!! .. changing them wheels will complete that motor!!
The std wheels will look great in an OE way and your car will be like new, but i also love the look of your wolfrace wheels, perhaps keep the speedlines imaculate for shows?
Finally sorted all my pictures, mostly same as before but with a few new ones in there too :)
:agree: great thread, great car :D
I don't know why some people don't like the Wolfrace wheels. I think they look great in the ND pics :agree:
Black wheels were cool for about a week in the summer of 2009.
:D
You've done a very good job of bringing your 5 back to that condition, very nice! :agree: Where did you get the origonal graphics from and how much were they if you don't mind me asking?
Im currently in the process of beginning the refurb on the Speedlines.
Tyres have all been removed and the wheels checked for straightness and cracks/damage. Three were perfect but one was literally egg shaped.
Annoying really as i was told they were all straight before i bought them :sad2:
The "egg" was swapped for a straight spare and then i gave them all a good general clean up.
We now need to decide whether to get them blasted or chemically stripped

Good to see old pics of the car when you got it, before you did anything as you can see exactly how far its come on now! To be honest still has appeal to me in that pic as afterall its a gt turbo! great car mate, saw it in the metal at Blyton park, its stunning! good work bud :agree: :)
Now that's come a long way to say the least!
What a transformation from when you got it mate:agree:
Get the speedlines blasted & powdercoated, hard wearing finish:)
Finally fitted my engine bay sticker set i got off Bigfoot at ND, cheers mate :agree:
https://s26.postimg.cc/4fbvt6x7t/da5a8101.jpg
Not commented in here before but after seeing the before pictures and how it is now all I can say is well done, what a transformation. All the hard work was worth it. :agree:
Must admit though, I actually really like the wheels it came with, any idea what they were? :ashamed:
Back in the day I really wanted a set of voodoos for my mk2 golf but it never happened
I found a few more pics tonight while i was at my Dads.

They look lovely. did you go with chemical dip or blast in the end?
Good work buddy!
:niceone::niceone: they look fantastic mate, they'll finish this car off nicely
Great pictures, really tidy underneath isn't it! :agree: have you had the Speedlines powder coated or painted? I've just chucked my old Speedlines on mine actually and am quite impressed with the feel :)
I haven't really taken any since I fitted them but I'll be at Scoffs on Sunday if you're going? My cars pretty low and it looks even lower with the 13's on. I don't actually think it is any lower mind as the tyres have a larger profile - it doesn't catch the exhaust on the pavement any more than it did before put it that way! :D
There's something about a freshly refurbed set of GTT alloys :D
One thing I have noticed straight away is that it wheel spins like hell with the smaller wheels on! :D
Got the wheels on today :D

How much did the tyres set you back? Looks miles better on the original wheels:agree:
Jon, now were talking ... the finishing touch in my eyes....:agree:, ive a set of those tyres brand new , i may stick them on the phase 1...or sell um...very nice.
Thanks :)
Wheels an tyres came from the classifieds section on here, £100 delivered.
Wheels were very tatty paintwork wise, but worth that for just the tyres.
https://www.rtoc.org/boards/showthread.php?t=29390
Looks fantastic !!! :agree::)
Mate those wheels finish it of perfectly
That looks perfect mate very nice, finishes off the car ;)
sweeeeeeeeeeeeet love this car
Thanks everyone :D
mint:agree::cool:
Looks spot on mate ,have you got the part number for rear beam brake pipe clips ?? Thanks Matt keep it up
Wow that looks spot one :agree: Incidentally I use Pirelli P600 tyres (they're old but in very good condition!)
I got Pirelli P600 on mine, good in dry but just as bad in wet.
Great, that's all I need to know with the November track day coming up! :D
Great project, lovely car. Just needs a smaller more subtle exhaust that fits in the recess. ;)
Had a final drive out of the year last weekend in the 5.
Forgot just how much turbo cars love the colder weather and also how little grip you have on the standard 13s. You cant not love torque steer

See you in the spring :agree:
Sometimes, all you need in life is a nicely lowered Tungy GTT with a decent exhaust
EDIT - of course it helps if said GTT is utterly mint :D Looks like you need a new bonnet lining/carpet bud ;)
EDIT2 - I realise I said the first comment, more or less, on this very thread 18 months ago. It's as true now as it was then :D
Cheers for the comments Trev :)
True, the bonnet lining is past its best and a new one would really be the last piece needed to complete the puzzle.......but i cant get one anywhere :sad2:
I know of three brand new ones in existance but im not prepared to pay £250  for one.
And to think I sold my mint one to a fellow member a few months ago for £20, lol.
Btw, yours will probably come up well with some TLC. Brushing, clipping of loose strands, stitching, new fixings.
Your car still looks great you know. You should be proud.
As for the bonnet matting- mine is non existent too. So I'll need to find one but I am def not paying £250 for one!! That's daylight robbery on a new gearknob style!!
What is the matting actually made of? Anyone know?
Only a small update, car is now tucked away and sorn for the winter months.
In the meantime i've been collecting more parts to keep improving things for next year.
Purchased a K-tec d/c intercooler off 1988cab (cheers mate :agree:)
Old s/c Pace vs New.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps924d55d7.jpg
Also won an Armtech rev limiter off ebay for only £27 delivered  :D
Its more of a safety mod after having an incident with a missing throttle return spring :ashamed:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psc744626d.jpg
Im also feeling a really big need to scratch an itch for a t25/t2 turbo and some kind of cam.
Might have to wait till 2013, with my second daughter being due early next year :)
Lol - we are never happy with what we achieve on these things are we :)
I think ill be just like you when mine is done, forever tinkering with it!!:agree:
Intercooler fitted :)
Gave the engine bay a bit of a wipe down too now she is off the road.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5e1a2a2c.jpg
Looks great mate
Pushed her out in the sunshine for a mid hibernation engine run up yesterday.
Gave me chance to test fit the new strut brace (Cheers Nottswoody :agree:) before we paint it.

http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4812c5ea.jpg
Nice work as always mate
Show off lol
Evening :)
Its that time again! Only 10days till the 5 is back on the road after its winter lay up.
Had it out today, fitted my new magnecors and the now painted strut brace.
It started on the first pull, not too bad as its been sat idle since Dec :agree: C1J ftw
Few bits to tidy and sort, nothing major, but today was a good start to 2013 :D

stunning!!!
can i ask 2 questions?
1. how come you have no hose going to the anti perc fan?
2. do you get much of an oil smell from your oil breather in the car?
thanks
adam
Can't believe your selling it fella.
Thanks mate,
I only use the perc fan to blow cold air to the base of the carb and over the main fuel line. The hoses that ran to the solenoid and into the main boost hose are notorious for boost leaks. I removed and blocked mine off to tidy up the bay a bit, and eliminate this problem.
I have never had any oil smell in the car at all the whole time i have ran that set up :)
Top banana. :) you couldn't sell that car fella. It's like mine. It's part of your soul lol. :)
Looking forward to seeing this baby in the flesh. Are you taking it to nationals?
You got any more plans for it? Mines having loads done at the moment. So close to being finished now.
Fix a wobbly drivers seat thats about it ;)
It dont look too shabby as it is really, not mint but presentable. It needs a good clean and hoover too, ignore the steering wheel thats my winter storage one to stop my good one going mouldy ;)
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psf8be8202.jpg
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psa39c25ce.jpg
Looks nice mate, I've decided to go as near to OE as possible. Bar my door cards, turbines, strut brace and alloy inter cooler it's standard. I've got the standard speed lines still for shows. Not that ill enter for competition. Don't wanna get involved in the bitchiness that happens. I wanna rent mine to tv & film :)
Wow! Looks superb
Looks sweet:agree: i need to make an effort and get mine back out, been in the garage for at least 4 month now:eek:
lovely 5 - keep us updated on wobbly seat fix. Mine are terrible, they actually have movement in the main seat mechs
Better pic of the new parts fitted in the engine bay, all the rest needs a good clean :agree:
Also going to remove the perc solenoid brackets soon now they're not needed.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pse8a11f94.jpg
Will the lobster smack into the brace when the engine goes under load? Looks v close. Maybe get some thin dense foam to put on the brace just to take the 'bang' out of it? Or will it not be a problem?
Does look like a disaster waiting to happen lol
Like the breather set up too. Nice.
Gonna see how i get on with the new d/c standard position one first mate as ive not even driven it with it on yet. I only run 17psi on a mild T2 hybrid.
If a T25 happens to find its way on :innocent: i may have to reconsider.....will i ever stop changing stuff :dearme:
love your car mate so fresh!!! wanna swap :cooter:
lol well watch this space.
I replaced some of the worn torx bolts at the bottom - helped abit - but rest of the movement is in the seat frame - think iv got a vid of the movement somewhere eil dig out as I didn't know how to repair them.
Liking that breather setup - oe but loses the feed back to air intake, I just routed mine to a home made bbq sauce breather pot but yours looks nicer - il do it one day
From what i've seen there are some pivot bushes that sit between the frame that attaches to the seat itself and the other part that attaches to the floor of the car, these tend to go oval over time.
Im planning on drilling a hole in the centre of this bush and putting a nut and bolt through with a spring washer and nyloc nut. This in theory will allow me to take up the slack and tighten up the joint but keep the frames moveable.
:agree: I adapted the breather set up cause i was sick of seeing oily intercoolers and intercooler hoses :)
heres a video of where the movement is in this r5 seat - i cant see a easy fix:confused::scratch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBE9GnFaY78
Now taxed and back on the road for 2013 :D
No issues after the first drive out.
The new d/c intercooler seems to be doing its job really well compared to the old Pace unit. AFR's are really good and solid now at WOT and the i/c hadn't warmed up at all after the run.
I can also report no issues with the carb top hitting the recently fitted strut brace.
Quick pic from my drive on my private test track ;)
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psa1b7166f.jpg
That's good news fella :agree:
Cracking picture. :smokin:
Flat 12's at the top end of third I'm guessing.
Great picture mateglad its running well. Love this car
New poster! (less than 10 posts)
This car has influenced me to buy another one - looks amazing. Top job mate - I remember seeing it in pfc mag in readers rides
I just hope I can get mine looking half as tidy - Dont seem to be many up for sale (apart from with Mike) so is difficult to choose a good one
Buy a wreck and do it up i did .i couldnt fine 1
Seat is fixed :D
That bit that appears loose in the vid is a large pressed in rivet that holds the seat mech together, years of pivoting the seat for rear access and general use cause this to become worn.
One carefully placed (hammered) E clip on the inner side of each rivet and everything gets squashed together and it also moves the pivot point to an unworn part of the rivet further in.
Total cost of fix 50p, no more wobbly seats :agree:
Good tip jonny, my van seats rock pretty bad so will give this a go:agree:
Wicked picture:D and happy days back on the road:agree:
Can u point me in the right direction for the same gauge holder?
If you don't mind, I'm gonna copy that cause I want mine in that kinda, full view area:agree:
My Dad custom made it for me, i could try and twist his arm to make another ;)

Bloody typical:wasntme:
Would you mind asking your dad if he's up for making another, cause im willing to pay:agree:
It just looks right:agree:
That looks really good what does your dad do for a liveing ?
Oh dear is that a bit of rust on your seat frame:eek: I'd scrap it now fella:laugh: amazing job you've done here credit to you.
Great fix on the wobbly seat, that could come in handy for hundreds of GTT owners :agree:
If it wears again, is it possible to drill that rivet out and replace it with a nut/bolt affair with a washer and some thread lock do you think???
nice mate will try it - thanks for pic
so 18mm e clips - how many did you need for each seat, looked at work we only have 10mm ones, where did you get yours?
thanks
Just read through this, what an awesome project and your 5 looks amazing
great read. love the car. looks amazing.
and just to add. hope you dont mind fella. i have made a piller pod stack like your dad did. with three guages in. i sticker bombed mine to hide the imperfections but only did in in a day. happy to post a picture but wont do it on hear. dont want to mess up this mint thread. :)
Cheers mate, lets have a look at this pod then? ;)
Thank You :D
Cars going for MOT thurs and at the moment im looking at changing the wheels again
As much as i love the speedlines the Uniroyals are rubbish for grip/handling and really dont fill me with much confidence when pushing it.
So im on the luck out for some 15s that will go with the current look....thinking Ronal R10 Turbos  :)
speedlines with r888s JOB DONE !!
Well worth it for the grip difference though Jonny. For a summer only car they will last you years:agree:
Great read. Gorgeous car. Ronal Turbo wheels. Perfect.
A048's are excellent mate, i rate them over the r888's. the grip was better but didnt last as long for me and higher price made me get the r888's to replace. You can get the r888's in 185/60/13, ideal size for a gtt. Prices, well shop round, think i got mine off ebay through demon tweeks
Thanks Brigsy :agree:
MOT passed this morning, no issues :)
Managed to avoid the snow too, thank god :agree:
Everything is still looking fresh underneath after 3years back on the road.

New wheels purchased proper update soon once they arrive :D
Willy wheels?? I fancy another set for mine. Look so right on a gtt
Yup Clio Williams alloys, finally found a set :D
Going for the same look as above with the polished rim but dark anthracite centres.
Photo shop of W35TY with my wheels thanks to Sam M.
Looks pretty slick!

http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/...9426602af1.jpg
Look good mate :agree:
Cant wait to start refurbing mine :)
This is hench. Never seen gold Williams rims on a tungy ;) they look great
It looks great but that car aint tungy it is a renault gris pluton 262 i had to look on his profile for that
They both look great mate
they may not pop as much on a tungy as the paint is more of a pearl on westys i belive. but wow they look gooooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!
just saw this... dont look to bad to be honest they was gonna be white on mine at one point... My colour is darker than tungy more greyer if that makes sense.. aint pearl though that might be the lighting in the photos... Its just got a lot of metallic in the paint proper pops in the sun
Anthracite willy rims on my gtt a couple of years back, awesome combo. Just needed a bit of lowering
http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps3398cb78.jpg
http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8063d972.jpg
Thats it Brigsy, that colour but with the outer lip polished as o.e williams.
Im assuming they're a straight fit? Even with mine being dropped 50mm?
Im going to run the 195/45s off my voodoos.
Just need to shop the o.e. deco's stickers on the sides and I reckon it could add slick contrast to it along with the gold?
Willy wheels have arrived thanks JimGTT, very happy :D
Really straight honest alloys, perfect for the refurb i have planned....off to the blasters they go.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psaf527b3b.jpg
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psee569929.jpg
You're an addict mate ;)
There gona look awesome! Mate :agree:
What's the colour scheme mate? Or is it secret squirrel?
Wheels are back from the blasters, no nasty surprises so on to prep for paint.
Very happy with the finish straight from blasting :)
Also picked up the one missing centre cap from Renault.

http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps279df596.jpg
Nice work bossman!, will looks the nuts :)
Chuffed to bits with the colour choice
Some lacquer tomorrow and they're done, cant wait to see how they look on the car.
Decided against the polished lip because i can't be arsed to polish them every five mins :crap:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pscdb8d16c.jpg
Delicious. You can't go wrong with Williams wheels or Turbines on a GTT IMO :agree:
And here's me thinking that polishing the lip was really going to marry the wheels to the car!
It'll look great in any case :agree:
Look great! should of polish the lips tho. :cooter:
:agree:
Boring update time....more wheel pics :bored:
Willys are now finished and im waiting for some new wheel nuts to arrive before i fit them.
I'll do a proper update next week once ive got them on and given the 5 a proper clean.
Sorry for more pics of just the wheels, but im quite pleased with how they have come out for a home refurb and NO i shouldn't have polished the lips :cooter: :upyours:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps768df564.jpg
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps287563cd.jpg
They look awesome! Mate and there gona look great on your tungy and homemade too :agree:
There looking lovely fella, was it out of a gun? Now about them polished lips :wasntme:
Going to be much more difficult to polish the rims now the tyres are on :dearme:
Look good mate.

Still need to swap wheels nuts over as new ones were wrong bloody size :sad2:
They look fantastic mate, quality job :)
That's frickin nice.
Very nice.
:smokin:
That is looking especially good Now!
I've used loads of your engine bay pics while putting mine back together so I guess a thank you is in order - I owe you a pint!
Very nice.
:smokin:
One of the best things about this car is that it sits perfectly. Just the correct ride height for aesthetics IMO (and probably about right handling too). :)
Wheels look awesome Jonny!!!! Well done, love the new look for the car:D:agree:
Transforms it. I liked it on the voodoos too mate. Willy wheels look great in that colour though. Regardless of the wheels your 5 looks the business. Hopefully ill see it this summer!
superb !! love the Williams wheels equally as much as the speedlines, be nice to alternate between the two ? :)
A couple more pictures for those interested. I just uploaded them on to my computer off the camera. :)

New poster! (less than 10 posts)
Love the colour combo of you car/wheels big thumbs up:agree:
EDIT 285mm discs and headlamps now sold on.
Bit of an update for those interested :agree:
I've been steadily racking up the miles driving her at least one day of every weekend for the last two months, with no issues :D
Along the way ive felt like the brakes needed addressing for a couple of reasons.
Mainly because they didnt give me alot of confidence and also the fact that the standard discs looked tiny behind the willy wheels.
So i purchased some 285mm discs off MarkeyMark :niceone:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps34754d8e.jpg
I also missed the burble and sound of my old style Scorpion 4" backbox, the 3" copy backbox i purchased off CGB just didnt cut it sound wise.
So i purchased a genuine old school 3" Scorpion backbox off Ross aka Slammed66 :niceone:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0119b435.jpg
After a polish it looked as good as new :smokin:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psf74a1cb4.jpg
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9d8b9702.jpg
Also managed a few Ebay bargains along the way, the main one being as good as new looking headlamps which are destined to replace my non genuine items.
Although the ones i fitted not long ago were new, i was never happy with them being non valeos.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psc7b4ab77.jpg
Other than not attending ND due to work commitments. (im sure me an the car were missed ....)
Thats about it!
With the weather being so nice that weekend i ended up at Baston Car and Bike show near Peterborough on the Sunday.
It was a brilliant day out with over 380 cars and bikes on show, even bumped into a few RTOC members :)
A few pictures from the clean before the show and a couple while i was there!

Had her out for a boost yesterday evening, first time in a while due to work and family commitments.

Did you get them pad carriers never heard from u
Is that the bonnet mat from cgb on eBay? Looks as near to perfect as we can expect ;)
Great, love the little ongoing tweaks.
The bonnet mat/carpet - from experience that will come up even better with a gentle brush. :agree:
What about a EURO rear cluster for the passenger side? You don't need a reverse light for the MOT :D
Car is looking sweet mate :agree:
Yeah all done mate fitted my boost gauge and wideband to will post some pictures later
Bit of old school bling!
Got my chrome rocker cover fitted and my d/v removed to stop it rubbing a hole in the new bonnet matt :agree:

Small update
Changing my carb lobster to a GTTuning gas flowed jobbie.
I had a go at metal polishing it with a cheap kit you use with a cordless drill, i think it came out really well
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps771c4388.jpg
Fitted the lobster, looks alot cleaner imo.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psecbc3c57.jpg
Also finally got round to sorting myself a twin pod to replace my heavyweight original.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1a13a6d9.jpg
Bored now....
looks sweet mate!! out of interest does your c1j leak even the slightest drop of oil? looks so clean !! mean seems to leak no matter how many times ive tried to stop it :D
Is that an oil breather above le turbo ?
Not quite above :cooter:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pse95ed09f.jpg
The engine doesn't breathe heavy at all an i run the o.e heatshield which pretty much covers all the hot side anyways.
Ideally in the future i'd like to loose the perc fan an go rocker to bottom of o.e breather pot, top of o.e breather pot to a catch tank located in the perc fan space.
Think ive seen that set up on Brigsy' van?
Looking good mate easily one of the best cars in club
Looking very nice
looks fantastic :goodJob:
Away for the winter and on to another year :) :agree:
Can't help but think gold or silver for the wheels, maybe with some lip work would look great.
More Bling :D
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psf3879d85.jpg
Bloody magpie! ;) very nice
Lovely engine bay :agree:
Started my massive jobs list for winter/next year.......
Jobs list 2014.
Winter Maintenance/Mods
Fit V Drive Belt (Genuine)
Fit Alloy breather pot
Simplify FPR piping (remove twin t-piece for o.e boost gauge etc)
Doris mod (included in above)
Swap wheel nuts for polarised versions
Fit production version twin pod
Spring 2014
Oil & Filter Change
Ongoing.....during 2014
Fix all blown bulbs in dash/elec window switches.
Fit and wire bulb to boost gauge
i love a list
some interesting bits on yours, what is the doris mod (i should do a search)? also will like to see how you simplify the fpr pipes as this is something i would like to do.
i also need to sort the lights in my window switches
A member on here Russell Thorpe has a competition car called "Doris"
He found that by removing the small pipe that connects to the acc pump diaphram from the fpr reference pipe that it cured his hesitation.
Im doing it just to remove one more pipe :) and tidy up the last remaining o.e pipes drivers side of my carb.
As for simplifying my fpr pipes, the above mod removes one from the carb and one off the double t, the other pipe on the double t is for the o.e boost gauge.
Ive purchased a new single T piece and im going to mount this a little lower behind the carb so you cant see it, then plumb in the the above mentioned o.e gauge.
Then just planning on running one single red silicone line to the carb top with no visiable t pieces or other pipes off the fpr.
It would be alot easier to lose the o.e boost gauge, but im a fussy bugger
thanks for that
i like the sound of that alot,
you have got me hooked on the over head photo of the engine bay and then examin closely for ways to tidy
In all honesty it has become a little static! i am still buying parts for it etc but time is the main issue! or lack of!
The garage is leaking and it has an asbestos roof so I am a little miffed as to what to do with it. Not really a job I want to try in this weather. So I have covered the 5 up with a car cover and just left it for the moment. Plus I have installed a thermostat and a heater in the garage to try and stop the damp.....
Add to this doing every other week on standby with work and you can see why its all stopped at the moment :sad2:
Definetly need to find a few days to have a muck about with it and get it sent off for a respray. Just need to finish a little bit more welding, put the underseal on and sort out how i am going to fix the sagging doors......
Looking at the pics of yours keeps me motivated tbh :agree:
Jobs done today;
Alloy breather pot fitted.
Doris mod done.
FPR piping modified.
Had a quick drive up to the garage for some fuel and couldnt resist a photo in the winter sun, needs a clean tho as she's a bit dusty and the wheels are covered in brake dust.

Very nice!:agree:
Looks great.
So that doris mod and fpr tidy up has left you with the one hose to the fpr? Or does it t off out of sight?
Thanks
Such a lovely lovely example:agree::cool:
wow! clean... just bloody clean
Love this
How are you getting on with sourcing a Euro rear light cluster? :)
Jonny your car looks fantastic mate :goodJob: it's a brilliant example of the GT Turbo, well done mate :niceone::niceone:
Sorry for taking ages to reply :crap:
So if I read the above correctly, I can send my 5 to you on a trailer, give you 6 months and it will come back looking just like yours? ;);););)
It's a deal! :agree: ill send it your way tomorrow mate :cartman:
Your 5 is looking great btw matey
You could have cleaned it mate before you took the pics. :cooter:
Even more bling on its way thanks to Bood, just call me Mr Magpie
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pssopt7vcu.jpg
Think im addicted to shiney things...........
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psdmebyqrt.jpg
No problem. will look right at home in your bay
Loving the bling mate :agree: just keep on top of it
Jon Smith aka Thundercat is currently in the process of refurbing my polished alternator for me :niceone:
It was u/s due to a flat spot? and its currently looking at using up three of my spare alternators just to make it usable again
I have no idea when its comes to electrics so a big thank you to Mr Smith for bailing me out.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5pljwwuk.jpg
Takes me back stripping alternators mate :)
Throw away society nowadays :/
You and your chrome! Bloody gypo lol
Great work and detail again sir.
Is there much more on the 'to do' list?
I don't think the idle screw is chrome either but wouldn't be confident its not:laugh:
Will this one do?
Regards,
Steve
Tweak tweak tweak :agree:
You forgot to add 'remove perc fan brackets from bulkhead' to your 2014 list. I noticed it was an item from way back in the thread that never got attended to :D
This vicarious living I'm doing has got to stop
What I need is a 4th GTT. Hold on. What I need is money first!
I'm just getting a new business off the ground with a couple of partners Davo. So it's likely to be a while, even in the event of success.
Sorry for the hijack Jon. :pirate:
The Polished Alternator rebuild is coming on nicely thanks to Mr Smith (Thundercat)
A knackered thread on the rear casing stopped play for a while :dearme:
The polished casings were lightly blasted due to excessive internal and rear casing corrosion.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pswf4x1fw4.jpg
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psgjosfxjq.jpg
Then everything started to go back together nicely until...
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5cjgpa0f.jpg
...this! :brickwall:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psrsjytdju.jpg
After a helicoil kit the end is finally in sight :D :D

http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pszhn6a6b9.jpg
Looooove it
Gonna be like wu tang clan in your engine bay with all that bling lol
Great work and detail
I've seen 2 sets, one set on eBay which I was bidding on & conveniently ended early! Grrr
I'd love a set to protect mine
Mine are lucas i think ash cant remember off the top of my head
Some valeo ones here tho;
http://bit.ly/1aJ6s1x
Like Davo says only seen covers on ebay an both ended early.
I was supposed to ring euro car parts earlier for the price of them.
£34 & £39 on the euro car parts website for headlights & in stock. No valeo ones left though.
A headlight is a headlight though lol.
When I last spoke to Valeo they had one in stock one side and that was it, I got two brand new Valeo ones and they didn't cost anywhere close to £120 delivered
Search on eBay LWB716 and LWB717, they may not be valeo but at just over £20 delivered a lot cheaper.
Sparkie was explaining the variance between the euro headlight with the different lamp angle etc last night, also could possibly be a Mot fail..... the over prism you have to fit if you go abroard is most confusing too!
Cheers bigfoot I may invest in some aftermarket cheapies.
The search for headlight stone chip protectors starts today..........
The look of protectors on an R5 is a bit grim :( and I always wondered whether it's necessary to use them, as I've never really seen chip damage to the exterior of GTT headlights?
Usually the reason to replace them is because the reflectors inside have gone dull.
I got 2 new headlights from Renault the other day. Think they were £36 each part number 7701030641 7701030642. Don't come with covers tho
You're the first then TC. Somehow that comes as no surprise :D
i JUST ORDERED BOTH HEADLIGHTS NEW FROM RENAULT THEY ARRIVED TODAY GOT TO PICK THEM UP SAT :) PLUS OTHER GOODIES
hows the alternator coming along? all fitted now?
Final bits of bling acquired...:D :D
Brand New GTTuning Ninja oil cap (Cheers Topcat :niceone:)
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psjzhmnb9c.jpg
Alloy swirl pot (before polishing)
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psmebwatxl.jpg
Thats it for shiney stuff, i promise......;)
Very nice. The oil cap looks great and i am sure the pot will scrub up well. Look forward to seeing them fitted :smokin:
Nice some more shinny bits :agree:
A better pic of my new oil cap :D
I know gttuning made some shit in their day but i have to admit this ninja cap is a work of cnc art.
I know its only an oil cap and a dress up piece at that, but im well pleased with it.
First non o.e+ modification :crap:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pslv6zuwmv.jpg
Does look a cracking piece of work.
Finish looks spot on to..... will look very at home on yours then :smokin:
Nice can't wait to get mine through the post :agree:
Oh how i love metal polishing....:sad2:
Swirl Pot mid polish.
I've flatted out the worst of the scratches leaving just two small marks to tease out.
Very very time consuming and boring!
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pswdkowlrb.jpg
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psenathbjb.jpg
Very nice jonny.I do like the oil cap.Should have put my name down.
I want that swirl pot as shiny as your new oil filler cap ;)
Having seen the cracking job you are doing on these parts, I have got myself a kit to shine up some of the alu parts I have as well. Keep up the good work:agree:
Thank you :niceone:
I just use two types of polishing wheel in a cordless drill, with a couple of types of polishing compound that came with the kit and then finished off with autosol by hand.
If you're willing to put the time in the outcome can be very rewarding.
This is getting silly now......:crap:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6byleqpb.jpg
Hold on, it got silly a while ago!
I bet u bought the inter cooler chrome Bracket on eBay too
That really is the last bit. I mean that :)
I think i have a nice balance now.
Nice one. There's plenty off people with the opinion that chrome don't get you home, but it sure looks nice in my opinion. I'll be adding a few more blingy bits to my engine bay soon, most won't be seen but what the heck :D
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psvkkltwxz.jpg
Just for you ;)
Wow! That is incredible. Well done mate.
I bet it did! Your Blue Peter badge is in the post!
That's wicked Great work
Fitted my ninja cap
Excuse the crappy pic :crap:
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psje7y1trp.jpg
:smokin:
I know its filthy i got these today to try...
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psxnapqcq5.jpg
wow i have never heard of them, i use baby wipes normally
auto glym here i come!!!!!
Ive always used baby wipes too but i found it dulled the shine on the samcos.
Hoping these do what they say on the box and wont....
http://bit.ly/1dDzVPh
Thanks for the polished up pic :agree:
I have printed and framed it. It's now on my living room wall ;)
But genuinely, great job!
Liking that oil cap. :agree:
I've found WD40 and a rag cleans up silicone hoses a treat!
Top work on that degassing pot. :)
So i finally managed to get round to picking the Polished Alternator up from Mr Smiths tonight and im really pleased with the final outcome, thank you mate :niceone:
I just have the fan and spacers etc to paint tomorrow and ill be fitting it at the end of the week all being well.
So me being me, i started to give it a quick once over with the machine polisher as soon as i got home.
Quick sneaky picture below after a basic test polish :)
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psomeifyl2.jpg
That looks ace!
Top stuff as always Jonny :agree:
Rad next i think..
That's is amazingly clean
*looks sadly out of the window at his own beat up, rusty, dirty 5* :(
The finished article...
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pstezlmyiq.jpg
I want one:D:agree:
Now your just showing off! :cooter:
Can't what for mine to finally be all clean and bling'd up like yours. My interior paint work currently looks like it's been washed with bricks.
So far the only bling on mine is the seat rails. Maybe il throw in some pink so I've got something for people to talk about. :cooter: Really pump'd on getting things done to it this year and driving like a hooligan and seeing confused look on peoples faces when trying to work out what a R5 GTT is.
Seat rails, that reminds me. Jon, did you know Ph1's had polished/chromed seat belt tidy bars as standard? Or whatever they are called. They are quite cool.
These (top right), but polished:
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...y5interior.jpg
Nice idea Trev :) but i really am done after this lot is fitted.
Im going to work on the car Thursday to fit these last parts an tidy up a few loose ends, got the annual oil change to do as well then the car is 100% finished.
Ill be posting up some finished pics once it has had a total inside and out detail then it will be the end for this thread.
:agree:
Subtle little mod to freshen up the look of the willy wheels an to stop me getting bored and want to change them.

Looks fantastic. The stickers are a touch on the wheels.
Where's the chrome fan support?
Looks awesome mate.:agree: That is one clean engine bay.:)
Mint :agree:
That engine bay is a thing of beauty. The red and black silicone is awesome. I like all the bling also just not enough to be arsed doing mine:laugh:
She looks fantastic as always Jonny :D
One of the best cars in the club!
:smokin::cool:
Thank you for all the nice comments :niceone:
Im having a bit of a mental battle with myself at the moment, im thinking maybe ive gone a little ott in certain areas :crap:
You would have to give us a clue as to which areas are ott cos it looks pretty well balanced to me. OEM+ I think is the term used in the vw world.
Onwards and upwards :)
I've been buying some new cleaning stuff ready for the first spring clean.
The Dodo juice smells amazing and is really good value at only £6 delivered for a panel pot.
It should easily do the 5 four or five times this year.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9hiwrvvn.jpg
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...pslflic4dq.jpg
Very good choice there. The black hole works a treat on dark cars.
The trick with the purple haze is build up a few layers but as it's a soft wax make the last layer dodo juice banana armour or a hard wax which will offer slightly more protection.
That's my method anyhow
I notice you have something attached to the cylinder head close to where the standard knock sensor goes, I can't quite make out what it is from the pictures.
Is it a knock box? Or a sensor of some sort?
Got myself a new...yet old sticker :D
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psv4xy6gcz.jpg
I have one of those window stickers to. :D
Is that not a genuine old forum glass window sticker then? Minus O.E. Rtoc bro points to you then. :cooter:
Its a modern day version made by my sticker man, external vinyl and he can do any colour...even chrome :D
I had them made up for hammer off here.
He's selling them at a bargain price of £2 each posted over on facebook.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psgsodjt8v.jpg
I also use the poorboys blackhole glaze and the dodo juice orange crush for my red car and its a really good combo so the ones you have should be spot on easy to apply too :D
:crush::crush:
Mot @ 1pm today.
Must be an mot'ers dream to get a car in such good condition.
Good luck anyhow
If It fails and you start to break it, you have my number :cooter:
She'll sail through big man. :agree:
:agree:
Im looking forward to giving the underneath a dust off and polish more than anything.
MOT passed for another year :)
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psl5uamdpq.jpg
I made good time getting to and from the mot place, so managed to get to see this beauty on the way home.
She was ground running in preparation for this years flying season.
http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psdwmbhhey.jpg

Top car mate :agree: make sure you look after it ;)
You going to any shows this year be good to see it in the flesh :agree:
Awesome motor, awesome project.
Have you sold it then? Shame if you have, all that hard work.
You have done a fantastic job and it's a cracking car, enjoy.
Been a good read following the build well done for seeing it through.:agree:
Been a real pleasure watching this journey. One of the very few projects that has been seen right through to its absolute conclusion, and then not immediately sold on! :agree::)
A great car that you have ended up with. You should be proud!
The only thing left do is enjoy it mate.
And if anyone ever needs to regain enthusiasm for their project - this is the thread to read!
A credit to you and your dad.
Epic ride.:smokin:
