After we finished for the evening and before it went back on the trailer, glenn took me for a blast up and down the dual carriageway behind the unit. With no gas there is no grip in 3rd gear even, the tacho just sits at 8500rpm stuck to the limiter while your being dragged left and right as the diff struggles to find traction ! Propper madness, but good fun :cool:

so quite clearly it is possible:D,and with the advances in turbo design, and stand alone ecu technology, more so than back in the day;)
biggest hold back for most peeps would always be cost and long term reliability :)

Bear in mind that was with the 'Dini head, Glens done it using the C1J head, which creates lots more difficulties in itself, quite a piece of engineering, whether done by a big manufacturer or joe blogs in his shed. High power output, small cc engines are nothing new have been about (or on the drawing boards) since the 70s - look at F1 - but they are small light units with very efficient VE's, small piston sizes (if you ignore the BMW F1 turbo) not a tractor engine from the 60s, keeping the inlet charge cool is a big enough job by itself..... Let alone keeping the head on the block running that kind of boost.
