Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Subframe and my big pile of brackets etc etc is now at the powder coaters:) I'm now going to focus on sanding and repainting parts that can't be powder coated, ie steering rack, driveshafts, servo etc. So I've started on my shocks that had some rust appearing, sanded and paint stripped back to bare metal, I've now got too sand the rust back as much as I can then apply rust treatment. pics...

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
nice strip down on the shocks, bet that was a pain in the arse

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
I wish I could share your attention to detail:agree:

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Managed to put a coat of etch primer on my shocks today, and sand back to bare metal my driveshafts and steering rack. I've also removed as much rust as I could off one of my axles and put a coat of rust cure on, all little jobs but making progress all the same. Pics

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Cheers for the comment wilton warrier ;) get some pics up of your work in the projects thread.
Just received a call from the powder coaters with a price  it seems I got a bit carried away with what I wanted coated and forgot about the ever increasing price . I've just worked out that I left him over 60 pieces :wasntme:

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Driveshafts and steering rack have now got a coat of zinc primer. I plan to spray my gearbox, water pump, shocks, drive shafts, steering rack and servo with 2k high build primer next week.

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Little update for you only small and boring but hey I'm not forcing you to read it :D.
Hubs have now been painted and look lush :) I've also fannied about making a mount for my brake fluid resorvoire as I want it in the scuttle area. Once that was done I whipped the servo out and sanded it back to bare metal. Hope to get some high build on it later in the week. Only small things but most important is its progress, now how many weeks to the FCS

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
The positive part of doing small bits is it usualy gives more satisfaction than doing big things that need too much attention:D
-
Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Great job matey. :agree: the servo looks reem:D

Cheers Matt, I'm hoping for a fairly decent finish on it once I've finished. The annoying thing is I've painted most of the parts that I'm now doing again many years ago, but just used a rattle can and the finish just isn't up to scratch now:scratch:

Cheers bud, don't remind me  I'm hoping it will all just fall into place at the right time.
I only meant to change the clutch:ashamed: it's even more annoying when the missus walks into the shed and reminds me off that fact

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Right I'll warn anyone who hates shiney things too not look any further :D but for those who do like a bit of bling then enjoy.
Some parts I've collected from the powder coaters
I've also got a few things that I wanted black ie suspension parts, wishbone etc but on closer inspection they have got a dusting of very fine glitter from another job they done today. Somehow it floated onto my stuff aswell:sad2: should get that tomorrow. I'll pop some pics up in a moment.

Some pics essentially, always seems to take me three attempts :crap: it all looks miles better in the flesh as well :D

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Are they silver coated or you polished them up? Look good either way. :agree:
-
Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
They are a chrome effect powder coat, didn't even realise they did such a thing untill I walked in for a quote. There not proper blingy like chrome but more like a polished aluminium, which is ideal.
-
Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
They defiantly look chrome/polish in the picture.
Like :agree:

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
I'm now working on the engine bay, found a rust hole under the drivers headlight so have cut that and welds in a new piece. I've also welded in a piece of metal to divide the engine bay to the inner wing (by the headlight). Now I'm in the middle of welding up lots of oe holes for a smoother look, I think I'm about halfway there. I've also decided too take all of the underseal off under the arches and then redo it with new seam sealer etc I will then paint it in body colour.
I'm also still finding things to strip and repaint, I've just finished the starter motor, the ball joints and the gearbox thingy that slots into the subframe.

As Goobie is showing us his naked bits I thought I would too :D Just a few pics of my bay etc slowly going to bare metal, I've also been welding in lots of oe holes done about 20 so far and I've got around 15 left  I've now run out of gas oh and my grinders died too  I'm hoping to finish the welding and prep work and get some primer on for next Sunday, then it's a case of some filler work, seam sealer, stone chip, another coat of primer and then top coat  pics

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
And some more :) I'm happy to report there's no nasty surprises, other than a bit of welding to a hole under the front drivers headlight it's all been good.

Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Well, at least you know there no rust hiding after a full rub down. :agree: What primer and stone chip are you going to use?

I'll be using 2k high build primer from my local paint supplies(it's got added corrosion properties and can go straight onto bare metal) I'm not sure on stone chip yet  I've heard u pol or 3m is good. I've just found a different brand on eBay which is a rubbery consistency so I might go for that  I'll be using my stone chip gun for it whatever I choose.
-
Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
I'm using 3M in black, used it before, gives a good finish, expensive though (compressor bottles cheaper so your ok.) but is really good.
-
Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
Some body looking for red stone chip/guard... :scared: :cooter:
Edit to add. - You can get paintable stone chip/guard! Just an idea if you wanna go a bit wild. :agree:
-
Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
 yep I'll be putting paintable stonechip on, and then a coat or two of body colour 2k over that :D
-
Re: lagging behind by a few years!!!!
