Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Cant wait now getting close think the new rules are a great idea gone are the days of an easy stroll to the line, the races will be very competitive at the front with hopefully more overtaking than in previous years due to the relaxed laws on aerodynamics.
My moneys going on Alonso think hes still the most talented driver with experience to boot, Hamilton will be there or there abouts but think his gung-ho style could see him lose races. Darkhorse has got to be Vettel, started to show some really good performances at the tale end of last season and a demon in the rain watch out for him. Bring it on :D

Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Come on Mart, where's the bulletin for the latest breaking news on F1? :D
Teams spit the dummy and FIA agree to defer wins based championship system until 2010 just nine days before the start of the new season.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
"You told me I was 5th..."  :sad2:
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
The radio said he finished 6th, Hamilton is told he's 5th and the orgainsers find a way to make him 7th.
No doubting that this is one of the most exciting, interesting and uncertain starts to an F1 season that most of us here will have ever seen!
Where's the circus headed to next?
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
China, in a fortnight's time.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
I'm just hoping the Brawn GP, Williams and Toyota cars aren't seemed illegal at the hearing on the 14th...
Button really is driving well :agree:

Don't think it will be ruled illegal, as you may have heard other teams are looking to follow their front wing design!
How bad is are the Mclaren's this year, but i suppose that's the price you pay for a season long battle with Ferrari, although they ain't so good either. If they don't get their finger out soon Button will run away with it.

Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
News update...
Brawn GP's cars/rear diffusers given the :agree: by the FIA.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Good decision. Have the high court of appeal got the tech knowledge to over rule stewards, it was a point that Brawn said in an interview that they werent technically knowledgeable enough to over rule the stewards?
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Don't think it'll matter, Chris. The FIA panel have acknowledged & confirmed that the diffuser does "comply with the applicable regulations", therefore I can't see that decision being overturned in a high(er) court of appeal.
Game back on for Brawn GP, Williams & Toyota then  :)

Finally. What a joke.
Tbh, if the diffusers really do negate the intended increase in overtaking opportunities, I think the rules should be changed for next year to make them more explicit in order to achieve the original intention.
Now come on Lewis, hurry up. :ujack:

Sorry i thought they were at the Higher Court as the FIA had already ruled at the beginning of the season that there diffuser was above board and the teams wanted to appeal there decision? Its all to political for me, but at least a great season can carry on!
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
They're at the FIA's International Court of Appeal. The buck stops there.

Wait til you see a split diffuser on a Saxo near you....

Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Donington FAIL :dearme:
Back to Silverstone we go...
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
We'll find out Monday don't we ?
Thank ****, I want to get my tickets booked up!
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Officially, yes, but it's game over for Don'y.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Did they not source the funding?
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
They've had extension after extension on the deadline to find extra cash, not happening.
Should leave the British GP @ Silverstone, where it belongs :agree:
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Well there's a turn-around for the books  Donington have been given another fortnight grace to find & secure the money.
So that'll be 5 months (and Winter ones at that) to get the circuit fully upto F1 standards, before its FIA inspection/seal of approval on 1st April.
Hmmm...
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
The current deadline is for the end of this week according to autosport.com, unless Mart says otherwise ;)
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?

My man on the inside is gonna become the jobless tw8t on the outside if he keeps feeding me false shpiel :D ;)
Latest news *pinch of salt* is that the boy Senna has now been signed by Team Campos.

Mystic Mart ftw :agree:
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
;) :agree:
So there we are, another F1 season over with. Wish I had made that bet on Button in Oz, and to win the championship this year now :crap: :(
Already looking forward to next year - The Senna name lives on in Bruno, who is now confirmed at Team Campos. Ferrari have a strong line-up, Jenson defending his title, Hamilton/McLaren should be up there, might be worth an early bet on either of the Redbull guys taking the 2010 title, new boy Kob' @ Toyota could be one to watch, no more re-fuelling allowed, Lotus makes a return, as does Cosworth, S.Korea's new track/venue, and there'll be a British GP @ Silverstone ;)
Should be a great season  :)
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Already looking forward to it Mart. What a cracking year it's been this year.
I don't think the Red Bull guys will manage it next year. I think Ferrari and McLaren will have caught back up again and one of them at least will be able to better the Red Bulls (is my prediction). Will be interesting to see if the Brawns are able to do anything other than finish 4th. I wouldn't count it out but I think it's likely that they'll struggle more next year than at the end of this season.
Well done Jensen. Back to back UK F1 champions :)
:agree:

Aii, fantastic to see those back to back championships. Can either of them make it 3 in a row for Brit drivers though?
Bit of latest news - Rubens confirmed for Williams next year, and Rosberg teams up with Button (and I'm sure that has nothing to do with Mercedes wanting a bigger slice of the Brawn pie in 2010... ;))

Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
:agree: Great season :) Love or hate F1, it truly is a great spectacle. What a circuit Abu Dhabi is
Cant wait for next season. Im not sure what to expect of it. The season levelled up with Red Bull, McLaren and Brawn all being there. I agree with Mart, i think Ferrari will be back next season with a better car having concentrated efforts on it for most of this season. They have to have the strongest driver line up too in Alonso and Massa. McLaren will be in there for sure.

Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
With Merc buying into Brawn to the tune of 75% I wouldn't be consigning them to 4th place. They already have the best engine in F1. With a non-compromised chassis design for the MB engine next year it'll be right up there. This years chassis was a chop job to fit the engine at short notice and in Ross Brawns own words was a botch up.
Should be a classic year with genuine contenders in all the top drives. Can't say we've seen that for many years. McLaren Lewis:mad:/Kimi:coffee:. Ferrari Massa:scared:/Alonso:satan:. Brawn Button:cool:/Rosberg:guitarhero:. Red Bull Vetel:cry:/Webber:upyours:. Can't wait for the first dummies to be spat! It's gonna be awesome!

Yep, with Toyota now confirmed of pulling out too.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Yeah, not good news.:(
At least Sauber will now have a slot back in. They were waiting for someone to drop out. Wouldn't be a shock if some of the new teams don't make it either.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Bit of a news update, although take this with a wee pinch of salt at the mo...
Looks like Silverstone could finally get the green light for next year, mainly thanks (!) to Bernie taking a reduction in what the BRDC has to pay him.
However, this is counter-weighed with France (Magny Cours) now also being allowed to stage a GP again next year, again at a cheaper rate similar to Silverstone, thus Bernie still effectively rakes in the same sum of money overall.
That makes it a 20-race season next year.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Interesting mate.
I guess there ought to be an increase to any financial cap that might be set upon the teams next year then if there's more races than normal.
You gotta have a British GP :)
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
More news.
Mercedes Benz have taken over Brawn GP. Ross still remains team principal, but the Germans are now running the show.
They'll still supply engines to McLaren, but only for the next few years or so.
They've also made it clear they want a full German team (Rosberg & Heidfeld being the drivers lined up), and the latest report, as a result of that, is that Button is now gonna sign with McLaren.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
do you think Merc paid 75p for their 3/4?
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
I thought Kimi was signed up for mclaren next year???
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Mystic Mart ftw ;) :agree:
Shame about the ****y rebranded name 'Mercedes Grand Prix' :disagree: but I suppose if you own a team you can do what you like :crap:
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
What!!!???!!! So if i read the above correctly, Mercedes-Benz are now backing Brawn not McLaren and changing the name to Mercedes Grand Prix? And McLaren will get customer engines? If thats the case, thats a big two german figures up at McLaren is it not!?
Id read somewhere that Button wanted more money than Brawn could pay?
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Button and Hamilton at McLaren would be ace. It would set the sides up nicely for all manner of interesting rivalries between the teams.
Mart where do you get this info, are you dating Murray Walker? :mart:
:D

Not really, as Mercedes will still supply engines to McLaren for the next season or 2.
The reason why Mercedes are distancing theirself from McLaren, is simply because of the new MP4-12C, with its McLaren designed & built powerplant. Not good sales strategy on both behalfs if a company's flagship road-car is using its own engine, whereas it's F1 car is using another (rival) engine.
Button did/does want more money, and rightly so in my opinion - He's the current world champion, which'll bring sponsorship deals galore to him & the team he's driving for for starters, and not forgetting the fact he took a ~£10mil' pay cut this year to help keep the Brawn GP dream alive.
As an edit to the previously mentioned German drivers driving for Mercedes next year, Glock is also in the running for the 2nd seat.

Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
Its interesting stuff. I wonder if McLaren will build their own F1 engine then? Unlikely i suppose but not beyond the realms of possibility. New road car with a McLaren engine shows their developing units. They touched on it last night on top gear didnt they? Did they say it was a V8?
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
That's the plan (to build their own F1 engine).
Yep, V8 3.8L in the road car.
-
Re: Thoughts for this year's F1 championship?
The road car has turbos doesn't it ?:D
