Fitted my new replacement alloy radiator in the car today.job went ok till I re fitted the oil pipes, I started with the bottom fitting and didnt see the difference till id buggered it up. Looking back at the ebay listing the radiator oil cooler thread is an internal m10x1.25. Could anyone tell me what the standard renault thread may be? Do I need to replace the pipes to suit the new rad or is a simple adapter available.

Strange why they would make a 5 tubby rad without the original thread ?
Adapters will be available, you are best to try a local specialist.
Either that or don't use the oil side of the rad and get a oil cooler kit from someone like CGB
I found out myself that they are without a doubt not m10x1.25, unfortunately it was when I realised i had been tightening it up for a long time :mad: a classic schoolboy error.i was fully aware that it was alloy and would be soft so I lubricated both the threads, and i thought i was being gentle but i just took it for granted it was the same.It looks like most of the r5 rads with the oil cooler built in which are for sale on ebay have this same thread.maybe ill mention it to the people I got it from and see what they say.Quote:

Yes. It was an ebay purchase.I wanted to try alloy to see if it would reduce my running temp. But was trying to stay away from fitting a seperate cooler. So after looking this seemed reasonable value, from uk.Quote:

rad needed replacing, it was leaking a little when hot.i didnt really want to start adding oil coolers because of the added installation and also i didnt really have the money for the cgb set up so this seemed like the best value for money,with the oil cooler on.and in all honesty options are fairly ltd.but also alloy is much different from the copper core I had so I was looking forward to see how compared.
the alloy rad is back in the box, and ive re fitted the old one today and added some leak fix.it hasnt worked but im back on the road.have been in contact with the seller but probably not going to get much out of it.just going to have to learn a lesson which probably already should know.if its off ebay, dont take anything for granted ....
I have fitted a full set up as I thought I had a cracked oil cooler (oil in water) turns out I had a cracked oil way in the head.
I have found no temperature difference between the two setups, my car has always run quite cool.
Glad its back on the road, remember you saying about a potential leak when we went to Yarmouth meet. New oe rads are getting rare and expensive now, not ideal however what about a good second hand oe radiator? Leak fix does serve a purpose although wouldnt want to use it on a 5 personally. Good second hand rad and coolant flush out could be the way forward fella. ;)
I was against the use of radfix myself, never used it before and definately had some reservations. But I did ask a bit first and seemed to be worth a shot. You live and learn.....Quote:
